  • This was so amazing. I can't wait til Dave makes the next series! (Which they will be filming in front of a live studio audience, you'll all be happy to know, hehe)

  • Cats shiny purple diving suit is awesome! lol

  • The scene where they are going under water feels just like one of the old Red Dwarf series, which I like ALOT :)

I do miss the laughter tho, it seems to quiet without it

  • The laughter, canned or not, is sorely missed. It takes away from what should be a joyous rapture with the return of this series.

  • Wow, Ive never seen a show that so obviously needs a laugh track.

  • @Randki i seen a couple, watch the pilot for 'the mighty boosh' its so weird.

  • Red Dwarf is 1 of da funniest Brit comedys iv seen

  • they totally needed to put the laugh track on.. I miss it!!

  • even though there's no laughter, they perform their lines as if they are giving an audience time to laugh

  • I miss the laughter too. But it good to see them do this. I'm an American Red Dwarf fan.

  • "This massive testicle shoots up out of the water and grabs me by the throat!"

  • fritter the critter

  • i do like red dwalf, i have all the dvds plus the extra beat the geek dvd game. but part of the charm of red dwalf was the flow, from one series and episode to the other. i cant see it, like its good and all, but when did rimmer become a hologram again, and since when did lister wear a suit and where is Koncanski? she was at the end of the other series, where is she now?

  • the cat is like the hypothetical child of garfield and james brown, lol:)

  • Firstly, I absolutely loved this

The series has never used canned laughter; it's always been in front of a live audience, although for series 7 they filmed it outside the studio and played it back in front of a live audience.

I don't see why it would have added much more to the budget to invite 50 or so people in to watch it in front of a screen. I can see what people mean about dry silence. I don't think it works for Red Dwarf, not because I need a cue to laugh, because it's how I remember it

  • its amazing the difference canned laughter makes

  • I will still buy the series to keep my collection going...being in the US, I haven't seen it yet so I will try not to judge. Series 1-7 are stellar in my opinion.

  • When did Rimmer become a hologram again?

  • god this is awful, they dont make em like they used to.

  • I though it was really great, the cgi and canned laughter doesn't matter it's the good acting and script that makes red dwarf so funny.

  • THIS WAS THE CRAPPEST RED DWARF I HAVE EVER SEEN. everythings cgi, not built like it used to be which given it a charm which i liked. there was no audience laughter, i think some canned laughter wouldnt go amiss. its just not as good as it used to be, whats happened, ive always loved this but, this was just awful, i didn't laugh once through any of it.

  • looks good

  • Do you know what is missing? The audience laughter. That way I don't have to. Although it is funny, I just feel an unsettling dry silence.

  • If this is anything like it was, Im fucking glad I missed it. R.I.P. Future red dwarf. 1-7 forever!

  • I can't believe I'm saying this but a little canned laughter would have gone down really well at some points.

  • What is the music Rimmer listens to while sitting at the sonar? It is not shown here but it is some piece of chill out tune. Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

  • I think it's an orchestrated "muzak" version of the tune "Getting to Know You".

  • Classic Cat, only cares about himself and his clothes. I laughed yet because there was no laughter I felt like I shouldn't be laughing, like I was breaking the rules while watching it.

  • It's never been the same since the end of series 6. 6 was just a total high point seemed like it would be so hard to mess up anything after that...greatest tv comedown in history. We end series 6 and think yeah can't wait for 7, then seven comes and it's like...man red dwarf sucks...EH? The only one who sounds like his old self is rimmer and he has always been the real talent, lister just looks like he walked in from coro and cat seems like he can't be assed. respect tho to the boys for trying.

  • What's happened with the original Red Dwarf?...

The ship is like to the Enterprise...

    hahahaha

  • did I miss something? Only saw back in the red from season 8 so why is rimmer a hologram again and where is kochanski and the rest of the crew and why is this not really that funny and just kinda sad?

  • Rimmer is a hologram because for the things happened in the unseen series XI and X.

    Rimmer died again... hahaha

    I read this for youtube.

    Is truth?...

  • could be. did they make a series XI and X and just not show them? I saw the whole 3 part episode after I watched this and it was way funnier than this clip made it look.

  • This was a complete sack of SHITE!

Loved the series, got excited about what I thought would be a triumphant return, recorded ALL three in order to watch them in one go... and had the wind taken right out of my sails.

Half arsed with a weak story, very disappointing.

  • I hated back to earth. I watched it once only because of the past episodes, but this seemed like a nail in the coffin.

If its not broken dont fix it.

  • I still laughed my head-off. Sorry, I'm of the Arrested Development mind-set. I don't need canned laughter to tell me what's funny. Funny is funny.

  • Dude, I think this is in front of an audience. It's just that they're as disappointed as we are.

  • to be honest im just a little disapointed in this =/

dunno why. its just not the same...

  • Seems dead without laughter...

  • yes i feel that laughter keeps us from taking it seriously, and not taking it seriously is all that comedy is about.

  • ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I LAUGHED THE LIVING HELL OUT! I really enjoyed the new episodes and I was delighted by "Little Britain" Steve Furst starring...

  • Wow, I wasn't aware that 2pacandraf values his own opinion so highly, that he actually takes the time to insult the girlfriends of people whose opinion doesn't match up with his own.

  • lol....i was only playing ..my bad if i caused offence

  • Fair enough. It just seemed nonsensical, uncalled for, utterly pointless and a waste of time.

  • yay red dwarf back to earth starts tonight! it looks good but the laughter track not being there will put me off a bit but thats not a reason to say its bad the humor is still there

  • yay red dwarf!! i can't wait! ^_^

  • this is really funny, the cat is hilarious

  • WHY??? Haven't you ever watched Royle family, The office, Extras... none have it! Works better without it.

  • no. its part of the essence of RD to have it in it....now its shit

  • Well done you watched five minutes and don't have a clue. What an idiot. Don't watch it then like anyone at RD will care!

  • You should be grateful they made any new Red Dwarf at all.

  • I'm of the mind that no laugh track is better than canned laughter.

  • they tried red dwarf with pre recorded laughter in series 7, and personally, I could have done with out it. It felt very padded.

Over the years red dwarf has become more than a studio audience sitcom. Its become sci-fi comedy drama, and can no longer be practically filmed in front of a live audience. I like the new style the series has chosen, and I'm not that fussed about a missing laugh track.

  • "There appears to be something bigger than God heading towards you"

    :D

  • I'm really looking forward to this!

    1 Day to go!

"There's something BIGGER than god heading for you"

    Thanks

    [Phil, RDO]

  • I personally thought it looks pretty good. I think having studio laughter is irrlevent, plenty of shows run along pretty well without it. I like that the Cat has gone back to being more confrontational towards the others. But then again I liked Series VIII so I may be in a minority.

  • FAN-SMEGGING-TASTIC !!!!! .

Red Dwarf definatly is back ! , theres just one thing which i feel will let this story down , no laughing from the Audience , aside from those watching it on TV , i mean the voices of the audiance we hear laughing like in Series I to VIII .

Thank you so much for uploading this pal ! .

    Jason .

  • I totally agree with jason here. There's no audience (maybe they'll have one for when its aired on Dave later this week).

without that audience this ep is going to be abit of a disappointment. So far I'm not really impressed much by the dialouge. There age is showing through, and they just don't have the same energy as back in the day

  • It wasn't filmed infront of an audience like the other series (minus 7, which was shown to aqn audience afterwards) because they didn't want the story to get out on the net. It seems like theres some big ending from what Robert LLewleyn has said in interviews so they prob havnt shown it to an audience so as to not ruin it.

Comedy can be funny without a laugh track... i think it's more modern without one.

  • yeah thats what I said. I'm thinking they had no audience laughter because they don't want the plot leaked yet. Hopefully when it gets aired on dave tomorrow, they will have an audience, otherwise it would be dissappointing. like i said!
