When I saw the DVD schedule for 2011, this was the story I was most excited about, along with The Sunmakers. One of my favourite Doctor Who stories, even the song.
I don't think that people should say this serial is terrible! Give it's credit where credit's due! After all, it's one of the few remaining early Who stories!
I honestly enjoyed this story. Some nice comic moments and while the song is a bit annoying..it flows well with the story. Plus Steven is in it and Steven just plain rocks.
this episode looks very good. it has a good storyline and not some aliens invading and wanting to destroy the doctor,it's about the doctor getting a really bad toothache
No i meant that The Gunfighters was the worst serial ever. Doctor Who is one of, if not, the best television programs out there, and please note i said serial not series. Ah, forget it, i apologise for assuming that you'd know what i was talking about.
@mimkyodar We've been *told* it's the worst serial ever; mostly by fans that think the Pertwee years were the epitome of intellectual television. I think the problem is that people either never watched it (because they just assumed it was bad), or they took it too seriously. The producers weren't trying to do a perfect recreation of the Wild West with historically accurate characters; they were trying to do a comedy. Yes they play the song too much, but overall its very funny for its time.
@icemachine79 OK,Well, I didn't watch all of Five's and Six's. But this one sticks in my mind as an example of an experiment gone wrong - blowing the suckometer far past Love and Monsters. Again, only my opinion.
Why the negative votes? It IS the worst Who story ever! Between the insidious song that plays throughout, and the horrid attempts at western accents, you'll loose the will to live.
Hey, that's a good point. I mean, i at least give the Peter Davison stories and Colin Baker stories some cred 0 there's good stuff in there. There's a fairly anti Gunfighters sentiment out there - im surprised i got such hate - probably because i didnt support my statement to prove that it is indeed the worst serial ever.
The writers do deserve props for doing the 'characters trying to pass as natives by wearing goofy Hollywood cowboy outfits' joke over twenty years before Back to the Future Pt 2 did it. :)
