well, I don't want to play down the consequences, but it is already proven, that the rise of the sea level won't be as drastic as expected. The dependencies and sea levels already vary a lot - there is no worldwide common zero-line. Some parts will remain at the same level .. some will rise a few cm. I am merely against stupidity and this whole "controversy" fits the description of the word. Naturally I did not read all of the emails. The emails are online, but I doubt whether you'll actually bother to read them.

As the ice melts though the iron deposits within the ice effectively fertilise the sea, which causes an increase in the amount of plankton, and these organisms actually use up the co2 this is called a negative feedback cycle. and although it may not stop global warming it will certainly slow down the damaging effects but we must do something now, nuclear energy is our best chance now in my opinion, the carbon footprint of nuclear energy is more than 10 times less than coal

@generalacc Actually, people die more when ice melts. As you see, when ice melts, animals die because of the water level. Polar bears can't catch their fish, the Inuits can't get around as much, and wind are from oceans, so if there are too many water in an ocean, the waves will cause giant gusts of wind which COULD create tornadoes and hurricanes. Also, most water is created from ice, so if we drink all the water (which will be in a few billion years), there will be no ice left and no water too
