At 2:28, it shows one of the tours by MGM stars in the US. Each star got their own Jeep and driver. They would drive through "Main Street " of each town in their Jeeps. Then, they'd go to the local town theater and perform a show. That was followed by selling war bonds. Then they'd get back on the train and do it all over again in the next town.
While watching, I wondered why Al Jolson wasn't part of this thoughtful tribute. After all, Jolson performed for the USO during WWII in Alaska, South America, Africa, Italy and the UK. He also did the USA circuit of hospitals and camps. Afterwards he was the first entertainer to travel to Korea. He died soon after that trip, a casualty of his efforts.
Wonderful tribute...may God always bless the USO. The only person missing from this video collage is the performer who was first to go over in both WWII and Korea, and that is Al Jolson.
I just read this. Bob Hope was entertaining the troups in WW2 and they were about to go into a dangerous area. The commander made him sign a document which included the name of someone to contact in case something bad happened. He wrote down "Louella Parsons". True story.

I would give ANYTHING to be in the 1940's. This video is a sad reminder of times better times past. Sad because they are gone.

Everyone who supports our troops should look into volunteering for the USO in their area! Ms. LaReina says they're a basketful of good eggs!

Bit of trivia for fans of jazz vocalist Stevie Holland:
The man playing accordion for Fred Astaire on stage in Versailles is Stevie's Uncle Mike Olivieri.

Thanks for this great video. Back in the 1966-67 I spent many weekends at the USO when I was feeling a little lonely or just plain out of money.
