  • Thanks for uploading I love gimmie a break <3

  • @SkylordSweetie

I love "Gimme a Break!" too! I was very happy when a Canadian company finally released it on DVD!

  • @Eddie62070 u nasty freak

  • i always thought samantha acted way younger than her age. she was like 12 or something and she always talked and acted like she was half her age.

  • @LadyScorpio39 Lara Jill Miller was 14 when she joined the cast of Gimme A Break. She looked alot younger than she was. She could have passed for 10 if needed.

  • @evergreenstater

i know she was in her early teens. thats why i said, she always acted much younger than she was, or at least seemed to anyway. she acted like she was 6 instead of 12, like her character was supposed to be.

  • I was only 6 months when this aired...lol

  • my grandmother is dying so cup us in your prayers

  • This show is now 30 years old! And still fun to watch!

  • it was made clear in one of the first episodes Nell was friends with the girls' mother, Margaret. When Margaret was dying Nell promised she would stay with the children. As the series progressed Nell went back to school- by the last season (after the girls were grown) she was working as an editor for a publishing company in New York.

I know people unaware may instinctively dismiss this show as a throwback to Beulah or other black maid stereotypes, but that was not the case.

  • nell was sexy :)

  • BET COULD NOT PUT ON A BETTER SITCOM!!

  • Why did Samantha's voice sound she was sipping on helium

  • They sure portrayed her as a mammy! But us brown peoples liked this show anyways we support all black tv's

  • Gertrude's tank was always either half empty, or it had no plants in it, or it had tons of plants in it...it always changed!

  • i was 4 and every show i watech as a kid i youtube for my 9 year odl to watch...they taught great morrals and had great messages hidden inside a fun show! you dont see that now

  • @brianandiris

There are a lot of things that you saw on TV once upon a time that you do not see now! Sad but true! My favorite series of all-times was "Mad About You". Helen Hunt forever! In my opinion, after that show's seventh's and last year, TV went steadily downhill! Oh well!

  • Nell Carter got a lot of flack from people of color because they saw Nell as nothing more than a maid until NC said that she WAS NOT A MAID, but that she was fullfilling a promise that she made to the girls' dying mother that she would watch over them when she passed.

  • I love Nell....funny and awesome

  • i miss watching this show and they need to bring this back out on tv again and nell carter was a very good actress

  • @jimbob5599

I agree with you on how good an actress Nell Carter was!

  • Chief: "You don't send goldfish to the cleaners."

    Nell: "My people do."

    lol, hilarious~~ I'm 17 and i love this show.

I'm so disappointed in tv these days.

  • @nessssbm Join the Club

  • Just watching this show for the first time since it was on the air and I'd never realized how progressive it was for its time... a gay cop mentioned on the first episode when "Dynasty" premiered this same year and could barely utter the word "homosexual" (I believe "fruit" was used). Also, the bussing issue w/regard to education - Brava, "Gimme a Break!"

  • @GenXorcist1976

There is no question that raising these issues was brave at the time. However, now they would be looked at as the minor league! Just listen to the issues that get casually mentioned on "Seinfeld" or "Friends"! Wow!

  • Good clean laughing...was good for the soul...shows like this is what made my day

  • "YO FISH IS DEAD!" lol

  • i sed to love this show!!!

  • Looks like Nell is hittting a bong at 5:13 !

  • I wasn't even born, when this show started. But, I did watch reruns, when I was kid. Now, gonna watch it, again. Cause, I don't remember the show.

  • 5:50 this where title comes from.

  • "Nell! I hate dresses. They show off your boobies." Back then they could not say "titties" on TV.

  • @rbermea Um...they can't say it now.

  • 5:00, Nell said "Oh, shit."

  • No she didn't she said oh Shoot, I know because after you posted the comment , I held my ears real close to my speakers, she said oh, Shoot @rbermea

  • Wel, it almost sounded like "Oh shit".

  • I know, that's why I had my ears real close to the speakers. And replayed it to hear what she actually said. @rbermea

  • sam was by far my favorite!

  • RIP Nell Carter serious talent she had I loved how she was always checking folks

  • Gimme A Break started in 1981. This show ran from 1981 thru 1987. I was 11 years old when this show started.

  • I was 7 yrs old in 82

  • "Girl I thought that was a greyhound bus hit a pig" LMAO!

  • Thursday Nights after Diff'rent Strokes on NBC

  • RIP Nell Carter!

  • I had a crush on Sam (Lara Jill Miller) Why i'm sharing this??? I don't know. Lol : )

  • She have pretty voice.

  • I Have a crush on Julie(Lauri Hendler).

  • You had a crush on Julie, I had one on Nell. @joecortina

  • @SNSW1 I had a crush on Debbie Jo!

  • we need more shows like this now instead of dumb ass reality shows

  • Amen - there is NO creative talent in Hollywood anymore. This show was great! And WOW! 6 dollars a pound for steak. Those were the days!

  • FOR REAL!!!! Sitcoms take actual TALENT!

  • we sure do!

  • I agree with mistyblue363, but I don't expect anymore shows like this from the Networks, it wouldn't be a bad idea if someone used youtube to lunch shows like these.

  • I think Lauri Hendler's beautiful.

  • It's the Beulah Show for the eighties. If you don't know what the Beulah show is check out The Beulah Show 1/5 (1952) on utube.

  • Wow... did she say Massa Massa dont shoot...? If so, how far we have come.

  • Gimme a break, will ya!

  • "Honey I am Woman" LOL

  • What the fuck has she draped on at the intro? A red curtain?

  • Got a problem with that red drape?

  • Yeah a huge problem with it.

  • Nancy Reagan made that dress famous even the women on Dynasty wore it

  • intro sounds differnt

  • That's because the intro that you are

probably familiar with was not used

    until the third season.

  • Wow I was 5 years old when this came on. I'm sitting here with my 4 year old and 2 year old showing them the shows I used to watch.

  • I was 5 in '82 as well, I'm right there with ya ( even though my daughter's 3 months old ) LOL

  • @jevonk Me too. My children love the old shows. All of them. They were clean, family oriented, safe. I don't watch any regular television cable or the foolish digital box either. It is sad. God bless YOUTUBE

  • @jevonk

I was twelve years old when this show came out. I was crazy about it!

  • i loved when she did that dance

  • This really takes me back!!!!!!

  • wow, this show was behind the times.A black housekeeper taking care of three girls encompassing every stereotype:pretty sexpot, brainy nerd, and a tomboy.

  • Don't forget the ever long running steriotypical cleeshay ~~~~~~~the widowed father...

  • for some reason, I had more of a crush on the middle daughter than i did the oldest one

  • I had a cruch on Neil and the grandmother...
