I used to do this in my home town, I seen a guy get a pin in the head by the hardest league hitter.... Which was also the head of our towns Ambulance drivers...luckily for him!
That is a very abnormal job. Nothing for my old body. But in the early Years of Bowling, it was normal. So if you like this job, you have to work hard, very hard. Maybe it is a one Dollar job,
You just had to get into the pit and get out as soon as possible. It used to be the bowlers would sometimes tip the pin boys by putting a dollar or so in the thumb hole before rolling the ball down. Sometimes you'd get those wise ass bowlers who would try to hit the pin boy. Tough job but good honest labor kept you skinny.
isn't there little spikes that come up out of the pindeck to assist in the proper placement of the pins? If there was a place that had no automated equipment, my doc would love me to do a pin boy's job to lose weight.
not all of them, some are just spots. i never used them because you had to keep your foot on it and it was awkward trying to twist around to grab pins. also you could get a rythmn going and a stle that would let you set pins fast
on an average league night you might bend over 600 times for a set of lanes and if it went double shift, well you were pretty damn tired. i did that for 2 years almost
yeah, when i did it it was a buck on the first and 2-5 bucks on the 10th depending on how well they bowled ( yes i'm that old when we used to have 2$ bills). in the old days it was a dime down the gutter (i'm not that old!)

I think you tip them in the first and tenth frames by putting a dollar bill in the thumb hole.

Thsi is Columbia they don't give a rat's patootie about health and safety issues. He's probably lucky to be making 50 cents an hour.
