It does explain the differences in feel ... but doesn't demonstrate what happens. There would be some back pressure if the lens was attached. The test should be reshot with lens's on ... to try and replicate the air mass moving in exposure.
In fact, all camera were using M mode 1/60 sec. All camera were set to use their highest speed mode. For D7000, CH mode was used. Basically, you can imagine that D7000's mirror will be much slower if Quiet mode is used. I don't want to draw any conclusion here. People may argue that the stability of shutter release is more critical than mirror up and down. However, the shutter release on these camera feels very different. This video basically tells you why you feel different.
Think about this, if you were to empty a mag with AK-47, would you hold it against your body rigidly and take all the shock or would you loosen up a little so that your allow your arms to bouce back and reduce the strain on your shoulder? Rigid gears wear out faster, because it puts more strain on the components. Having some room to bounce is intended. You think they can make something so complicated like a DSLR and not be able to figure out how to stop a mirror from bouncing?
Lots of interesting info here! As long as the mirror is moving, you don't see anything in your viewfinder. The 5DII has the longest blackout time. The bouncing mirror not only causes vibration, but also, as long as it's bouncing, the AF can't work because it needs a perfectly stable mirror & submirror. The D7000 seems to do the best job by breaking down the mirror smoothly and quickly.
I just want to smack the hell out of people who say "the best pictures depend on the person behind the camera" which is like saying that it's the pilot that matters and not the aircraft, or it's the driver that matters and not the car. Equipment can matter a lot. Everyone knows a sloppy mirror makes for a lot of vibrations when shooting landscape, etc. requiring much heavy use of "mirror up" feature just to tame the horrible vibrations.
@likeawhispr I think you are wrong, Frank Kappa's D-Day image is technically terrible but it's one of the greatest war pictures ever taken, you can have a Blad digital with a top notch Plannar on the front and Ansel Adams behind it but if he points it at s*** and its still going to be s*** like wise take an Kodak instamatic point it a Kennedy getting shot and you have a classic image. The subject makes the image not the camera, that just records it, some technicaly better than others I agree.
@trackend .. but most people aren't out shooting landscapes or matters of war. What most people shoot commercially whether it be portraiture, weddings, products, macro, sports, fashion, etc., are endeavors where equipment DOES matter. Weddings? D3s gives more high iso room over other bodies on the market. Fashion? 80mp back gives way for serious cropping and detail w/out the strong AA filters affixed. Sports? Try shooting raw at 8fps with a $700 camera (buffer chokes quickly!), etc..
@likeawhispr agreed, I was talking more general to image making not specifically dealing with proffessional use as in which case you are right, but then when it comes to specifics for say studio, landscape, architecture, work none of the above cameras are IMO up to the mark of a digital medium format for the average joe composition sits much higher than what kit you have as it does even in the commercial world & the reason why some photographers get more work than others even using the same gear.
@justinmumm : It9s very strange because the shutter of 5D2 is less noisier and about vibration is good as D700, maybe the mecanism of Canon is more lighter
@hutdockz well owning a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer, it makes you a Nikon owner. Professionals are making money shooting either Canon Nikon or Pentax or whatever while amateurs are watching this kind of videos on youtube arguing about this and that. i could easily compare some "photographers" with those guys watching football on tv and arguing. In one word anyone is good at football and anyone is good at photography when they're sitting on the bench.
This is why Nikon sound is much more quiet. Shame on Canon.

If nikon had a flip out screen like the canon 60d. And if nikon had video quality like canon, I would buy nikon

get the facts straight man, less bounce will reduce vibration while shooting in long exposure right ! i mean everything counts man

The older Hasselblads 500 series ... compared to the newer bodies and less vibration for landscapes.

the 5d2 has quite a bit of bounce when it comes back down . . . d7000 looks like butter on the way back down, and has no bounce back . . .
justinmumm 9 months ago 12
@justinmumm I don't think that the bounce on the way down is the issues, the picture has already been taken. Its the bounce at the top that matters.
