  • @journeymanpictures A tiny country with 1/6 of its population refugee is the a Happiest country?

What about the totalitarian practice of King over our Sharshop community. Every thing he enforced from language to dress-code, from religion practice to culture.

And you mean gross national happiness?

Please, come and visit here in East and assure our people you would not spy the king and the government about what they said, and you will know the real story behind. People just scare to express.

  • Bhutan tortured over 100,000 Bhutanese citizens and threw them out of the country in early 1990s and it has not taken them back until now. But the world is so fucked up that it STILL thinks Bhutan deserves to be called a peaceful country!!! where did humanity go, humans?

  • The president of Bhutan is racist, he kicked all the Nepalese speaking Bhutanese out of bhutan to Nepal. I will be laughing out loud when the racist bastard will be burned in hell. And for other racist Bhutanese, don't try to correct me cause u know that you and the president is racist.

  • @thekilleroftheday ..Bhutan Dont have president..i worked there for eight years.if u dont know abt this country its sure u are just a brat in hea...i dont want those criminals who where rightly sent out of This beautifull country in my country...and i know the reasons those people where sent out ..they burnt down schools, murdered officials, rejected the identity they now say is theirs also..guess u r one of them.. HMMmmm from USA

  • @thekilleroftheday bitch i will murder u if i saw you... u motherfucker ugly ass..

  • You have to see it to believe it. Please don't make comments without understanding the how and what Bhutan is! Bhutan is truly a happy Place :)

  • interesting but why are not Christians allowed to practice in Bhutan i think there anotherside to this country there is no upthoia in this world

  • Well, Happiness and Bhutan. What a big joke? This is one of the country in the world who saying a Buddhist philosophical country, dragged about 100, 000 people from its country who were living in that country since last 40 years. They tortured, and killed many of those who do not speak bhutanese language. Now, those people are accepted by US, Canada, and Australia as migrant who were forced to live a hard hard life in refugee camps of Nepal. Oh Buddha, peace peace.

  • please do not spoil the Bhutan

  • 4:55 is that a penis?

  • I hope Bhutan will remain everlastingly peaceful and happy.

  • love to bhutan, stay original!

  • Did anyone notice the two giant dicks on the house wall at 4:54 ? xD

  • hey where is this place like whats the name of this place

  • Why can't these Injis (Foreigners) use word Tibet instead of ugly China.

  • Stupid gross national happiness! First of all, you can't find what is Bhutan's GNH for any period, second of all, their slogan "Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product" is slightly stupid when - and I quote -More than one third of the population lives below this poverty line - source raonline

(The poverty line is about Nu 748.10 per person per month)

maybe that's where they should start measuring this invented happiness!

  • Nepal failed now the communist will rule the country !

  • Keep on your path Bhutan ! India has destroyed by westernisation !

  • check out youtube vid:

Burke Lecture: Buddhism in a Global Age of Technology

    watch google video:

Thomas McEvilley on 'The Shape of Ancient Thought'

  • sounds like fun to live there

  • what is the music in the begining?

  • @tobs001 It is good to hear that you are handling it well.

Just remember that your culture is a crystalization of WISDOM - more wisdom than Western cultures which values "democracy and money" over "happiness"!

In my view, it is not you who have to learn from the rest of the world - it is the rest of the world who have to learn from you!!

So, please treasure what you have. Do not become jealous of others. Be PROUD, be an example of an IDEAL country to the rest of the world.

  • why do they paint a penis on there houses ?

  • @seahhag69 Its the phallus of one of our most venerated saints, Druka Kinley, The Divine Madman. He was an enlightened saint that taught the faith using comedy, satire and parody. (He used lewd humour to teach Buddhism) There are even stories of him using his penis to defeat and subdue demons.

  • @tobs001 *Drukpa Kinley I meant. Missped the 'P' in a typo

  • @tobs001 - Sounds like drupka kinley might be a homo .

  • @seahhag69 HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!! Well its not surprising you dont know this since youre not from the country but he was definitely not a homosexual. In fact it was quite the contrary, he was a total ladies man.

Finally you should try not to be offensive when talking about another people's saints. Its very rude.

  • This video warns us about one thing:

    Globalization is disastrous.

  • @kclau1 Nope. Globalization handled properly is a wonderful thing. We can all learn a lot from eachother if we ever took the time to stop killing and lynching eachother first.

  • @tobs001

I doubt whether you can "handle" globalization by any means.

The only thing "wonderful" about globalization is that the US can dominate the world and we should all eradicate our cultural roots and cultivate new ones in line with that of the US...

No, that will be disastrous to happiness. It will mean non-Americans will have to spend ALL their lives learn new ways of life which may not suit them at all.

  • @kclau1 Well Bhutan is being globalized and has little to do with the US at all.... We still value our culture and traditions while modernizing. Globalization should allow people to share their cultures and learn from eachother, not just replace their own with american culture. We're handling it just fine thanks.

  • this is one reason why i love India and the UK.. instead of abandoning this great kingdom, they protected it from external invasion - preventing what happenned in Tibet, occupation by a foreign power. indian politicians have wreaked havoc on the economy of India, but atleast they respected foreign countries, however "small".

Long live Bhutan. I will visit her very soon.

  • Yes but who cares. I am not Nepali and I would like to go to Bhutan and see what it is like there. Unfortunately I don't have the money

  • did the king ask his people if they want to live this way, without communication etc?

  • They are the happiest people on the planet. I don't think the "democratic" USA can say the same thing about their own nation of corruption and violence...

  • 5:30 I felt a massive wave of sadness go through me, the change that is occourring and no regard for the ancient knowlege an customs that will be lost. We take pictures but do not bow or show signs of respect. for some reason that made me really sad.

  • gross national happiness, over gross national product?!! im all for it!!!!

  • I respect the values of these people, butbeing attached to your culture, identity, tradition, happiness, pride and values nhas never brought happiness to anyone. If you are so attached to your image, that image will certainly be hurt by someone who does not value it. I tried it all. All those values are material, if you look at it from an enlightened point of view.

  • @mrcuteblackie thanks for your opinion. This is exactly what Bhutan is trying to keep away from, isolated by nature by the giant mtns, the mind of the people as innocent like the child not wanting to b corrupted and invicious like the remaining outside world. The fact that their spiritual belief which is predominantly buddhism very much shape their everyday conduct, and yes the conduct to live in harmony with nature, culture, religion and thereby simply going in line with happiness.

  • @tsherique And talking from the enlightenment point of view, the enlightenment very much speaks of deattaching oneself from this materialistic world, keep oneself away from all the viciosu things in life which brings unhappiness and suffering to oneself and around, but the very fact that people in Bhutan, one of the best race in the human mankind is simply living the middle path, just living their own small beautiful life, not having to rush with others to economic

  • @tsherique development .These people, very humble from the great kings to the very poor person, have only one goal to pursue, happiness and happiness is brought to them by their simple life of living.

  • @mrcuteblackie Go visit Bhutan, you will know what the world is talking about this tiny happy kingdom!!

  • @mrcuteblackie Wow you got it so wrong

  • Preserve your good value. Your identity and your way of life. Good human character is most cherishable. Do not follow others just because many are doing that. If it is a way of life that contribute to less greed, less hatred and less delusion, then, it is the best of all.

  • I totally respect their idea of having their own unique identity, but when they talk about being happy, I just dont understand. How can they be happy when they chased thousands of Bhutanese people out of their own country? Cramped people in trucks, like animals and send them away to Nepal. It just breaks my heart, how can identity be so important then those people's lives. Thanks to UN who took care.

  • Because those people weren't Bhutanese they were Nepali and were inciting violence

  • belive me you dont wanna be thanking the UN for anything. We are merely crops to them.

  • India and China? Did Tibet suddenly vanish from the face of the earth, from which every thing Bhutan has to show for comes from??

  • This si an awesome one. I love it.

  • Hey, several other countries have Tibetan/Tantric Buddhism, but Bhutan is a theocracy that states it as the only religion.

  • It's a great documentary, is it possible for you to air it on ABC, would be great to see it, thank you.

  • I saw the whole documentary. Chencho Gyalmo is crazy, she crys for no reason.

  • haha, its compassion

  • Height of happiness = Not having illegal immigrants trying to destroy your country.

  • Wow!! nice documentary

  • y u blaming nepal and nepali for it's ur government who eliminating the bhutanese citizen (of nepali origin).ur gov is a puppet of india n sooner or later u will be annexed by india (along comes odd indian ascent), RAW with it's expanoist idea.like sikkim.i wouldn't want bhutan to b annexed like sikkim buh u guyz should learn to treat all bhutanese equal be it ethnic nepali or others n move forward..darjeeling n nearby region was annexed by india n still stealing our land (Nepal,.beaware

  • Bhutanese should join back to the great motherland before you guys are forced to a small minority in your own native land by the nepali immigrants as they did in Sikkim.

We the people of the great motherland shall be happy to have you guys back. We would be really blessed if you give us the opportunity to liberate our Bhutanese brother and sister from the shackles of dirty Indian and Nepalese.

Himalayas has been infected by a acute cancer, the Nepali cancer.

  • Great motherland? What a mongol betrayer.

  • very very good bhutan . nature bless u all.

  • we are resisting western influence and are becoming indianised instead. The food we eat, the movies we make, the clothes we wear. We are in danger of speaking with an indian accent, the worst accent in the world.

We even have a Bhutanese Salman Khan! ... *gag*

  • Seriously though, India is much safer than China. If you can't figure that out, you need to go to the border and watch Tibetans get shot in the snow trying to escape.

  • seriously though, i was talking about how we try so hard to maintain our culture and tradition against "western" influences but are slowly but surely becoming indianised. Just a point of view.

And talking about watching tibetans being shot in the snow ... i'd much rather watch tibetan mountaineers reach the Olympic Torch to the top of Mt. Everest.

    Peace!

  • lol

  • I'm an Indian. I understand your concern. I'm sure India is not imposing it on Bhutan. As an Indian, we'd also love to see bhutan preserve its identity. -- And, please dont say our accent is worst. Its just different.

  • if you are different in Bhutan e.g gay, a muslim, lesbian, agnostic life is very far from ideal.

  • There are no ideal country's. Do you happen to be a lesbian Muslim living an agnostic life in Bhutan?

  • @dskfdjky People are pretty homophobic back there... but muslim ?? really? We have a load of Hindu's, increasing numbers of Christians and even a few muslims and Ive never really heard of or seen much discrimination. (Buddhism is the state religion but people are supposed to be free to practice whatever they want)

Were you discriminated against for being a muslim in Bhutan?

  • amazing...I dream of the day, when the World will come to understand, that this philosophy of life is the Truth.

  • Love you, Bhutan! I always have.

  • God bless bhutan.

  • it is awesome.

  • I can definitely identify with the precept recommending preservation of the environment, and it's a principle which everyone would do well to heed - what with rising food prices, and wasteful and needless dumping of organic matter into landfill in the U.K especially. The State isn't at fault; people are - those who are either too lazy, stupid or contemptuous of "reducing, reusing, recycling and composting". Better things to do? Well if frivolity and monotonous claptrap is your thing, fine !

  • yeah what he said!

  • may I be so bold as to suggest that it is nigh on impossible to live in a resource based manner. It is forced upon us. eg:i cant refill my plastic drink bottle . I have to buy it disposable. We are made to think its up to us to make a difference but thats the job of the massive companies which own the market. They try at every opportunity to make the iniviual feel guilty. check out tescos new colaboration with prince charles, the policy avoids saying they will stop cutting own trees specifically.

  • I hate the end
