Japanese Zero was in many ways superior to the hell cant in terms of maneuverity and acceleration (Zero can go faster than the hell cat but risk breaking apart) but the hellcat have a better armor and maximum speed...but america have the advantage in numbers at this point and use the tactic 2 hellcats against one zero...this advantage was lost when the better mustang and lightning came to be

Depends on the altitude. In a low level turning fight the advantage goes to the Zero. However if you raise the combat ceiling to around 15,000ft then the Hellcat has the advantage.
