@pwcrocks By the time PF was recording this, The Beatles had already toured with Revolver and were recording Sgt. Pepper's, so the idea that they were in the audience for Piper is a bit stretched out.

What did in fact happen is that PF was recording this album next door in Abbey Road to where Sgt. (the song) was being put together, and PF say at the time that they used similar sound effects to the Beatles. As far as imitating, that isn't the case of course.
