  • ^ You must be kidding! Richard Burton was an amazing actor!

  • RichardElden I see he's fucking here again lol he pisses me off so much.

  • Electronovision!!

  • Burton was and remains a unique individual

  • Burton was and remains a unique individual

  • @RichardElden Interesting that your comment has been flagged as spam. That's an insult to spam. At least spam has a purpose.

  • @RichardElden Didn't I? Wow, thanks for informing me about my life. I saw him in Camelot in London with my father (who was a massive Burton fan) in the late 70s or maybe it was the start of the 80s. I was about 16 or 17 at the time. He was mightily impressive to me at the time, in how he seemed to occupy the entire stage with his voice and presence. But, I'm sure you knew that, what with your rapier insight into the life of Richard Burton and me.

  • @RichardElden Knob.

  • wow, lots of anger around here! If you hate Burton, go back to your little feud...wishing he had died of lung cancer...its really awful to see people with such hate, and plain dark, bad feelings eating you up from the inside! Common people, relax, relax, go and prepare some tea, go sit in the sun outside, kiss someone and be kissed! Its not healthy to go around with so much hate against people that already died, and that you have never met!

  • @RichardElden you are hilarious

  • @RichardElden You sad pratt, you literally go around the internet with this mantra. You just made me laugh

  • This cracks me up, seeing this Huckleberry talking next to Burton. Like Electrononvision is some big deal. They shot a play and showed it in the movies. Big deal!

  • The "talentless Burton." What's it like to be you?

  • Richard Burton was an excellent stage actor. And he deserves some respect. Who care's if he smoked 100 cigarettes a day? Or drank himself to death? Seriously!! You fucking morons who talk shi* about someone you don't even know, what the fuck have you guys done with your lives besides talk shit on youtube? Fuc*tards.

  • This is mystifying. I trust this video is in honor of Burton, so why are do highest-rated comments abuse Burton? Juan Macready does this on EVERY SINGLE VIDEO and says this about EVERY SINGLE ACTOR. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if 92af went on a Gene Hackman video and made a comment that said, "Richard Burton is totaly much better than Gene Hackman was", considering he also does that on every single video! Have Macready and 92 made multiple accounts?

  • So this production debuted November 23, 1963? Given what happened on November 22, does anyone know if this happened as planned?

  • @JuanMacready you've got to be kidding

  • @theviker No it's true. According to his brother Graham Jenkins, the talentless overacting racist loser smoked 100 cigarettes a day.

  • @JuanMacready You little shit! You're the bastard who was bitching about Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny! Christ, what actors do you like? Matthew McConaughey?!?!?!?!

  • @QuantumFart2 Well at least Bogart was a natural film actor unlike the talentless wooden actor Burton, it's just a shame he was far too old to play Queeg.

  • @JuanMacready @JuanMacready Okay, we agree on at least that. "That" being that Bogart was a natural film actor, and certainly had more memorable film performances than Burton did. It's ironic, you know, that we're talking about Bogart and Burton. Burton will always be best remembered for his Shakespearean theater roles, and Humphrey Bogart stated that he always wanted to play Shakespeare, but feared no one would take him seriously due to his tough guy screen persona.

  • @QuantumFart2 I doubt many people are still alive who remember Burton's stage roles because he abandoned the West End in 1957.

  • That little montage of stills from the duel is TRIPPY.

  • So wtf is electronovision. The still shots stuff?

  • Great voice.

  • Well, You can't get any handsomer than Burton nor any more articulate. Pity he had to die

  • Can't concentrate on what he is saying.... BELLISSIMO!!!!!

    !

  • I have this odd feeling that JulianMacready, FrankClanton, and PeterFirthFan are all the same person...

  • all it is is video tape transfered to motion picture film

  • Goddammit!! Couldn't that interviewer have found a way to work the phrase "Theatrofilm with Electronovision" into the conversation just a few more times??

  • Finally, Nintendo's new E3 presentation.

  • I think the real problem is that Burton couldn't act at all.

  • What the fuck is this? Why is everyone talking shit about Richard Burton?

If you don't like his acting it's a bit much to say you're glad he's dead

  • He was an overacting, wooden film actor who just copied Olivier.

  • would the ruthless US movie moguls have made him one of the world's highest paid actors if he couldnt act?.what an absurd and idiotic comment!!!.also there's no resemblance between his acting style and that of olivier......he's widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time.......nobody cares what cretins like you have to say about him

  • @92af Massive fail for you. Never mind, better luck next time.

  • I respect burton cause he came from poverty ridden mining village in wales to become hollywoods biggest stars back then. Try achieve that in your fuckin lives you worthless pieces of shit who hate on him

  • I'm not surprised that great actors like Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift hated the talentless wooden overacting ham Burton.

  • he was incredibly handsome! so great! look at his eyes, they're so deeply blue and his voice is so masculine and beautiful! He was so charming!! Liz was so lucky! Jeez! There are not many men as charming and handsome as he was!

  • A voice fuelled by 3-5 packs of cigarettes a day.

  • Richard was a wondeful actor!

  • What do you have against Richard Burton? Sure, maybe not every one of his performances was pure gold, but he was still incredibly talented. Have you seen him in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" It's one of the best performances ever given, in my opinion.

  • Who cares if he's a racist? That doesn't dictate how much talent he has.

He was magnificent in that role, and the vast majority would agree that no one could have played it better?

Why are you so set against Burton? Did he turn down your prom invitation back in high school or something?

  • Okay, we get it. He wasn't the most talented actor who ever walked the Earth. But he was still excellent.

    And he's a bisexual, now..?

  • Well I could understand if you didn't like him because you didn't like his acting, but stop acting like you knew who he was. Alcoholism doesn't make someone a bad person. Nor does bisexuality.

  • One of the great entertainment figures of the twentieth century, Thanks for posting this!

  • Richard Burton exemplified class, style and bravado. He was very handsome

and when he was on screen you couldn't take your eyes off him. A MAGNIFICENT,

articulate genius of the stage whose voice conveyed the majesty of the ages.

  • @JuanMacready I hope people speak as kindly of you once you are dead.

  • @JuanMacready I hope people speak as kindly about you once you are dead.

  • @JuanMacready Fuck you. The man was a credit to our species. Fuck you

  • @JuanMacready Not you again! You're ruining all the Richard Burton videos.

  • Comment removed

  • He was so great under all aspects and tell me where can you ever find a more handsome guy that him.......

  • There were hundreds of better looking men.

  • sure...perhaps to my neighbour, or to your girlfriend, but to me he remains....magic....Yeah, that's it, in his natural looking he donate thrilling and magial emanations....it's all about a personal question how we experience our feelings. In any way important is to be able to feel.....in one way or another

  • Nowhere!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Hardly.

  • As I understand it, his family wanted him to be buried back in Wales, but his wife had him buried in Switzerland.

  • Yeah but the point is that if he had been that proud of his Welsh heritage then he would have remained there like Sir Stanley Baker instead of becoming a tax exile in Switzerland.

  • Comment removed

  • A very proud but deceased Welshman, who was buried in Switzerland. You must be Welsh to understand the hwl, and it does not matter where you live or die, because it never leaves you !

  • No one else had this voice.

  • Richard Buton was a most talented actor and moreover a very proud Welshman. Despite his past icon status and accumulated wealth, there was no side to him and he was very down to earth. He was born in Pontrhydyfen near Neath in South Wales, which was also the birthplace of opera singer Rebecca Evans and tenor Ivor Emmanuel, who played the singing part in the film Zulu. What talent from such a small village I'm sure you'd agree.

  • A very proud Welshman living in Switzerland.

  • So fucking hot

  • Thank you for posting this video!

  • richard has the most amazing voice!!

  • I totally agree with you! Everytime he speaks, I just melt...

  • the voice is great!!

  • the interviewer, as it were, is Barry farber, a conservative polyglot radio host who is fluent in, I believe something like 13 languages. His inflection is certainly southern, not midwestern. Eastern north carolinian, perhaps?Burtons voice was the voice of God

  • The dichotomy between the interviewer's slightly nasal, white bread mid-western twang and Burton's elegant, rich baritone Welch accented voice is hilarious to me. It's like how to and how not to sound.

  • I fell in love with Burton when i was in high school in 1964.i bought 'Hamlet' and 'Under Milkwood',and watched 'The Spy Who came in from The Cold'.i went on to watch Whose afraid of Viginia Wolf'.'the Sanpipers','Night of the Iguana' The Comediens'and more, all because of Burton, what an actor.

  • very true, but he also had a natural talent, as did oliver reed, to snap into any persona at a moments notice. if hed have been sober throughout, i think his performances wouldnt have had that edge... everything happens for a reason

  • Whatever! You can get it on DVD, you can argue about the semantics of what "being filmed" means. It was captured permanently through some method and you can watch it on DVD.

  • The Welsh have given the world some great talents; Dylan Thomas, Burton and Anthony Hopkins, who as a young actor was compared heavily to Burton. Cheers, Cymru!!

  • oh and lets not forget catherine zeta jones... not so much talent ;)

  • she does have talent

  • So classy.....I heart Richard Burton, he was such a pro, also hella handsome!

  • Richard Burton Is an invcredible actor, such depth, skill, talent, I doubt we'll see this again in quite the same way

  • Great Welshman. Should be buried in Wales. RIP.

  • I,m also a welsh man and when i used to act on the stage i always looked for the way Burton would say things. A great voice for the theatre. R.I.P.

  • Yes, especially in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" which is one of my all-time favorites.

  • Richard Burton, my FAVORITE actor. But, some people do not know that he was regarded as the biggest as**ole in Hollywood. Also, he smoked 3 packs a day. check out the cig he's smoking in this clip.

  • Electronovision was merely filming the play Hamlet live and then showing it live in a movie theatre. Burton played Hamlet in New York in '64 and they filmed it and then showed it in movie theatres. You can get the DVD.

  • No it wasn't. It wasn't filmed. It was captured electronically using a high resolution camera (for its day) and broadcast live via closed circuit to movie theaters.

  • Like where? and is it both performances professor?

  • what presence!

  • oh yes Richard Burton..

..and "the voice" which everybody loves it!

  • He was so gorgeous!

  • I saw it! on some kind of field trip in high school. I'm pretty sure electronovision is the first name they used for videotape.

    What a beautiful man.

  • Richard Burton is just a man. Perhaps he was talking about the internet before his time. Perhaps a man told him and convinced him? We have all been told God is real. So don't blame Rich, perhaps it we come one day. It nearly has.

  • *tries to think of something witty to say* Hubba! *rethinks that*

  • Wow he make's you hang on every word. What a fantastic speaking voice. Welsh man speaking English better than enybody ever could

  • RICHARD ROCKS!

  • Vintage Burton.

  • what a man!!!!

  • what is it about this guy thats just so magnetic? hes like a caged lion with the voice to match? so compelling

  • Electronovision indeed. Guess it never took off then.

  • What the hell is Electronovision?

  • SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! A must see! Burton's distate for the flogging process is palpable but he tries, he tries.....
