  • Instead of an axe I would recommend a sawvivor and a good wood splitting knife(I personally use a bk2 and a ultimate survival technologies sabercut saw)... Just a friendly suggestion : )

  • Just to warm it up ;-)

Rucksack is a german word, cause the first ones where made/invented here. Backpack is just the english term.

BTW, great vids and great skills

  • what about toilet paper buddy? Do use any moss? I wish we had moss here! Ive heard it´s an outstanding plant!

  • @giutoniolo

hehehe, the true is, moss sucks, at least if its to wet, hehehe,, anyway,, i try to use what i find, its really hard in the winter, just snow, i have no idea how they did it in the stone age in the winter time.

probable have they a very much fibre in ther diet, so no wiping was necessary :0)

  • @hobbexp they would collect moss in the summer

  • you should have a fishing kit,,,,,,not only because its good to have in a survival situation but all people get hungry=) a fish on the fire is good.

  • @Migopower

lots of stuff i should have if it was a survival bag.

    fredde

  • brilliant as usual swedish man.

  • unless i missed it, you dont carry anything to put water in

  • @windofthegods

    not that day

  • This dude is funny, throwing his stuff nonchalantly and all. Lol. Great video.

  • great kit. Thanks for the video dude. ~Wolf

  • @MrVoiceofreason123

heheh,, i pay 357 US dollars, for my ( -35C ) winter bag

but it was 10-12 years a go,

i have sleep out dorrs in -17C, whitout a sleeping bag, and it was ok,

  • @MrVoiceofreason123

yeah that works great, i think i have some videos when i sleep out dorrs,

    fredde

  • as a 55yr old lady stroke survivor ty for the gr8 vid. i never use matches or lighter just flint/stell. i agree everything u need is in the woods.....almost. all i carry is: bandaids, flint/steel..knife..jacket....dryer lint ...thats about it. o yes small pot. thx karen

  • @MrVoiceofreason123

if i get in some shit in the can ,, hehehe, then i just need to live with it,

worse thing and that can happen in the bush,

hope you find a coffee can you like

    fredde

  • @MrVoiceofreason123

    lid for the spout?

i have like 5-6 coffee cans and not one have it,

  • Great video

  • Good stuff. I like your mix of simple gear & a cell phone. Thanks for sharing your "kit." (I get the idea you don't like that word....)

    Cheers.

  • You bring what you need and what makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

  • Good stuff is simple stuff. When I was new to hiking, I had a BIG backpack with loads of useless stuff. For each passing year I got lighter gear, less gear, and I can do more with it.

  • It looks like you have the real stuff that is functional and has been tested. The only concern I have is that your backpack is very heavy with all that. Thanks for the vid anyway. Have fun in the woods.

  • i dont think 4,5 kg is much, my cats weigh is 5,3kg

  • @hobbexp It's all relative. If you are comfortable with that weight, then so be it. If weight is not an issue, bring whatever you need. What part of UK do you hike to? Any risk of wild animals?

  • Ummm ive gone hiking with 60kg without any issues. You're going on about 4.5 kg? 6 year olds have heavier school bags...

  • @Disenchantingjovian You're right. My son's school bag is very heavy. But then again, I often hike 20 km with an elevation gain of 1000 m. He doesn't have to.

  • Bah. Unless youre obese, very unfit, handicap or somehow sick. I don't see anything below a quarter of your own weight being any problem to hike with. Anyway's, that's my take on it.

  • lol i like your accent (no homo)

i wish i had an accent my girl friends like accents :(

  • nice stuff

  • Surely this isn't the pack you would take for the 221 mile John Muir Trail.

  • if i gonna take a 221mile trip,

    then i take my car,

  • Too bad............. you don't know what you're missing. If you ever feel up to the challenge, grab a real backpack and hit the trail to the northern Cascades, or perhaps the Sierra Nevada's.

  • kool subed

  • i really like those blue cups what brand name are they?thanks for sharing!

  • i have no idea,

  • @wulfesinger67 Swiss makes them but there are a couple of brands.

  • a ruck sack is just another way to say back pack, kind of like how people in the UK say chips for french fries or crisps for potato chips, but in ths case, it's swedish slang.

  • Hey Freddie, I have just received my first mora 510 carbon steel Im thrilled with it but I have one question do you use any oil to keep the rust away? what type would you recomend?

  • i dont use oils on my knifes, but i have hear olive oil works fine,

  • We have close to the same kit. I do carry just a little bit more. I was glad to see you carry a axe, so many say it is to much to carry. I never did. even if I don't use it that much, I like having it with me. I hope you don't mind me saying so, but you need to add a folding saw to your kit. keep them coming I really like what you do, it's better than T.V.

  • i have a saw in my bag before, but i never use it,

  • Like that tea kettle, i'm trying to get ideas to make a survival back pack .. never know whats gunna happen.

  • Hey what is the Brand of the Tea Kettle your using? And what is the brand of the Ax that you use? Im a huge Fan, your awsome buddy :)

  • the axe have no name ,

but i think my kettle is a Tranga in this video,,

  • no ,,, the kettle i have this video was some thing i buy in asia, and i dont have a name either, but Tranga make good kettles i have a fwe of them,

  • hehehe,, i dont care what ppl thing, if they dont like my stuff then are they really satupid to look,

  • By the way he handles his stuff he really comes across as a very nice person.....Sarcasm of course, I just hate people who throw everything around. Imagine him setting the plates for dinner or preparing it in the kitchen for that matter. Watch it again and tell me this doesn't annoy you......?

  • what's the name of the blue bottle? I didn't quite get what you said.

  • it was an iodine bottle

  • yes iodine,,, thansk for your help,

  • we call it for jodopax here

  • thanks

  • No spoon?!?! How could I survive without my spoon?

  • Nice kit, it's so basic wich is why it's so good.

What did you say the item was after the space blanket?

Do you have super glue in your first aid kit? That stops bleeding fast, they used it during the vietnam war.

  • a good example about how knowledge is really all we need...

  • I have a strong feeling that it comes from the swedish word Ryggsäck which litterarely translates as Rygg = Back, säck = bag

(honestly i don't know if ruck in english means anything)

  • The name Rucksack is cognate with Danish Rygsæk, Norwegian Ryggsekk, Dutch Rugzak, and Swedish Ryggsäck. Alternative names include Haversack, and Bergen (from the manufacturer's name Bergens, used for a backpack supported by an external frame, usually associated with the British Armed Forces

  • from what I understand, a rucksack is a specific kind of backpack, larger and secured to some sort of a frame so that the weight of the pack rides on your hips and not your shoulders.

  • Thanks for the video. you put things into perspective. you show you only need the important stuff not a bunch of do dads.

    Please keep these videos coming!!!

  • the true is, i dont know, i have never thing or care about it, if i have a back pack or a rucksack. but i think i rucksack com from the swedish word ryggsack= back pack.

  • I was surprised that my one hunting spot could recieve cell phone reception & I go there more often as a result. I only recently got a cell phone around 3.5 years now. Most areas out much here have not coverage at all.

  • yeah cell phones is god to have if it have reception, :0)

  • thank you for all the videos,, ha ha ive been watching them for 3hours nearly, there very good.

if you were in the uk ,you would have a sleeping bag in your pack, i wish i had a friend like you as my buddys want to play video games instead of enjoying the outside so for now i only camp alone and learn little??

keep the great videos coming, 5*****

  • if you live in the uk, you can get these bags from Aldi or Lidl for around £8.i love mine but i do take more kit if i'm going for a longer time,3-4 days.love th vids Fredde.not long till you come here now.

  • hey fredde, what kind of pack is that and where can you get one? i'd like to get my hands on one if possible.

  • the pack i have have no name, here it cost 15-20$ us here, i dont know wher to buy them.

i buy that one on the gas station.

try to look in fishing shops, they sell back packs like my.

  • what kind of pack would u call it?

  • ice fishing back pack, thats what we call them for here.

  • Your videos are great ! Thanks for all the info.

  • Thanks for sharing! You are for real no-nonsense-guy, and it is evident experienced in the ways of the Indian. (heating the wood over fire to make more pliable). Wish I did not have to be concerned about heavy metals in our local waters. Thanks again for sharing your skills.

  • jodopax, its jod.

  • its a bow drill string and the blue thing is a cup,

  • "Everything I need to have out here, is here already" Truer words have never been spoken. As the saying goes - The more you know the less you carry. You are proof of that.

My goal is to be able to walk out into the bush, with nothing more than the clothes on my back and the knowledge stored in my head from books and videos like yours. Until that time comes, I will continue to watch, read, and practice.

    5/5

    Daniel

  • You, Sir, are a wise man!

  • The most important thing he carries with him into the bush is his knowledge! With it his good skills; using tools for craft, igenuity and inventiveness he's obviously confident and able to make use of the wilderness more than most, in turn this makes you less reliant on kit as the bush provides it for you. Nice to see your kit, Thanks bud!

  • thanks, my axe/coffeecan kit.

  • Nickynwong, if you can afford lots of money for kit then buy it; but you don't always need to spend a fortune unless of course your are another 'bushcraft fashion victim', there does seem a lot of that type about these days, all the gear and no real idea :(

  • thanks, i can tell you i have lots of expensive equipment to. but i like the this stuff you see in the video better.

  • thanks,, peace

  • nice vid

  • thanks,,

  • Thanks for showing your kit. Great video, I will hopefully be doing a video of the kit I take at the weekend. Thanks. p.s. Nice Cell Phone.

  • sorry, i like to see what you have when you are out over the weeken,,

  • thanks for showin your stuff

  • Great series of videos, keep them coming :) I never thought of using a fisherman's backpack with stool, good idea

a lot of expensive gear is no better than cheaper kit. When I go 'bushcraft' camping I'm amazed at the price some people will pay for a pair of trousers or a 'bushcraft' shirt etc

  • thanks, i like to keep it simple, i have been out a lot whole my life, and i cant see why i need more things or expensive things and what i have, it will not make the difference for me.

  • nice to hear you like it,, respect,,

  • thanks for that, look forward too the next one............the mad sweden.....thanks again

  • thanks man,, :0)

  • good video,basic kit,no thrills.5 stars...

  • thanks, now have i show min now is it your turn to how yours,, hehehe,, :0)

  • I like how you don't use all that expensive brand name crap, like most people on youtube doing this sort of thing.

  • as much as i see your point of view, it is a little stupid to say brand name items are crap, or expensive for that matter. You get what you pay for. Hoobexp's stuff probably works just fine but some one elses "expensive brand name crap" will also work fine if not better. No need to piss on other people's choice of gear just because you dont think it is worthwhile.

  • My comment isn't about the quality of brand name equipment, and I had no intention in insulting anyone. My comment is merely stating that many youtube member say how necessary it is when hobbexp shows that is not alway true.

  • I understand where you are coming from but you mus realise by labelling "expensive brand name" as "crap" you are very clearly commenting on the quality. YOur explanation explains it better but reading your first comment you just came right out and said expensive brand name stuff is crap.
