@tristramshandy3 The Constitution dodn't address SA weps cause they hadn't been invented yet....and the right to bear arms is there to protect us from the Government....to protect us from ANYONE that would take away our freedom. Unfortunatelyy, there is a downside to the freedom to bear arms....crazy people get guns and do bad things with them....But I would rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it. I haven't fired a gun since Nam..but I have one..and I WILL keep it.

The 2nd amendment is ambiguous but we're judging the meaning through modern eyes and ears and that is difficult to do. It does say that the "people" have the right to bear arms...and the Supreme Court has ruled recently that both the State Gov and the Feds cannot change that right based on the Militia argument. Your argument is meaningless anyway even if I agreed with you. Guns can't be regulated in the USA...that ship has sailed.

Thr Amendment speaks about Militia and then talks about the "people" and that's ambiguous...and the SCOTUS has ruled aginst the Militia argument twice recently and that's a fact...just because you don't want to hear that, doesn't make it inaccurate...look it up for yourself.

@NakedLadyMudFlap the baseless part was the conclusion- that we cannot regulate guns in any way- that the ship has sailed. Precedent has been overturned many times before- especially with activist judges on the right- bush v gore or citizens united.

@tristramshandy3 Maybe I should have explained the comment....the ship has sailed because there is an estimated 200 million guns of various sorts in private hands in the United States....trying to put gun regulations into place is a bridge too far in the first place and violates the Constitution in the second place...it is simply an impossibility. Even if you changed the law, you will never change the fact....guns in private hands is here to stay.

@NakedLadyMudFlap the law has a long history of not giving two shits what reality is doing- take a look at the drug war, for example. Anyone with an iq above 7 can see it has failed and will never work, yet the law remains.
If there are a few more episodes like there were in my little abode of Tucson over the next few months, and there probably will be, lawgivers will give in to the inevitable pressure that will build.
People shouldn't be allowed to have semi-automatic weapons.

@tristramshandy3 Semi auto just means that you have to pull the trigger everytime you shoot and is a red herring for the left...the real goal is total gun control and has already been codified into law in several places and then ruled against by the SCOTUS...as being unconstitutional...it's not only unconstitutional, but there are 10s of millions of citizens that Will NOT give you their guns. I WILL NOT let the Liberals in this country take my guns.

@tristramshandy3 I think that the liberals in this country want to change American society into a Socialist State and deprive us of our individualism. I need to defend myself and my family against insane liberalism...naked men in parks laws and such. I own a business and I've been robbed several times...do I have the right to defend myself? A car can kill dozens of people in seconds...should we ban them? I'll keep my guns and you keep your piety.

@NakedLadyMudFlap I think the corporations want to turn us into an oligarchy. Actually, I think they have been largely successful. And nobody fired a single shot. Guns don't protect democratic republics- educated, informed citizens do. My liberalism is anti-huge corporation at its foundation.
Of course you have the right to defend yourself. Do you need uzis and automatic weapons to do it?

It's unfortunate what happened in Arizona...but crazy people do crazy stuff and Im not responsible for it. Our Local liberals passed a law allowing men to use women's bathrooms...naked men can use public parks in Seattle...and you want me to allow that stupidity to take my guns? Surely you Jest.

We have the Right to bear arms and we won't give it up because some mad man shot people. You can make chlorene gas from bleach and drano...should we ban them? The point is that the gun isn't the problem..JL could have driven over and killed people in his car...if you want to Kill people, there are plenty of ways without a gun.
