I heard this piece accidently after typing "banhu" (coconut shell variation of erhu) in YT search. Since that this melody finds itself among my favorite music. Yet I can't find any information about the composer or even real song title (Beauitful Taxkorgan, Sunshine over Taxkorgan, The Sun Shines on Taxkorgan - all of them are in use). Does anyobody know anything who composed it and where to listen more music of this composer?
Her choreography is so pure, and the music is so beautiful. Although the precise timing of the two instruments is challenging, her gestures to the pianists is a bit pronounced. It is a bit of distraction to the mood that the music itself is in.
I enjoyed her performance very much, and it is wondeful as it is.
this song sounds egyptian-like, butI LOVE it! That lady is good at the erhu. And its amazing that the erhu can play so many types of music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Uyghur is a merge of 10 nomadic groups originated in the Republic of Mongolia and Russia. The largest tribe was called Huihu. Huihu were Buddhist nomads enslaved by the Mongols for thousands of years. They migrated to West China relatively recently. They told the Chinese emperor that they were not happy in north Mongolia. So the Chinese emperor accepted them as guests and resettled them in the far West. They are converted to Islam relatively recently and become Uyghurs.
To be precise, this piece is not genuine chinese music, but rather influenced by the uigurish ethnic minority, which are muslims, i.e. influenced by turkish-arabian lifestyle and music. That's why you would find these minor gypsy scales and mixed metric pulses.
The language spoken in Turkey is originated in North Asia. Its name is Turkic language because Turkey is close to Europe. The name is given by Europeans. From Japan, Korean, to Mongolia, Uyghur, the grammar are all somewhat Turkic. But if you tell Japanese he is Turkic, he will feel insulted. The influence of Turkey in the world is very limited.
I'm no expert in language, but I always think Japanese and Korean are closer to Chinese. For centuries, they sent scholars to China to study, very much like people go to US for higher education today.
if you guys think this vid is amazing, you all should see what she plays like now. it'll blow you all off. this vid is pretty old, and she's improved from then.
Her intonation is incredibly accurate, on an instrument with no frets or fingerboard. Astonishing. Her technique sounds more like classical western than traditional Chinese.
I think what "hufarted" meant was that she is able to make the erhu sound like a violin. Her rondo capriccio sounded like a violin! So I would agree that she has such control over this amazing instrument. Just beautiful!
Great! She has lots of class. Very beautifully played. I can 'see' a Taxkorgan lady merrily dancing in the fields, in the vineyard, along the river bank or under the foothill of some snow-capped mountain...........
I am going to spend my next five years to practice this tune. If I could meet SunHuang in reality, I would have satisfied even if I would die at the next moment.
I suppose it is not as difficult to meet her as it was for an ordinary folk in the Qing Dynasty to meet Empress Dowager Cixi. Simply contact her and arrange a trip to where she lives and you will meet her.
very well done, I would rate in 9/10. only if the last few phrases were played a little faster and with a little more passion than the middle portion it would be PERFECT!!!
w O w. This is the summit of tranquillity atmosphere one can reach.

I've watched many erhu videos, but this one in particular has 100% confirmed my desire to want to learn to play it.

Now honestly, thumbs up if the sound of erhu is better than the violin. Its less headwrecking.

@Max0Inq
It was composed by Gang Chen in 1976 as a violin solo.
Mr Chen is one of the composers of The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto.

This very much reminds me east European Jewish music.
I'm amazed a Chinese composer wrote this. Another proof that the language of suffering and hope is universal, just like music.
And what FEELING she plays with!
