  • Where is the rest of this?? I want more!

  • The original epic sax guy

  • Merztrane

  • this is almost as shitty as dubstep

  • Rock and Roll was ill defined because none had seen this yet. This is rock and roll, punk, out, free, avant garde, etc. Nothing says f*ck you in such a beautiful way as this piece.

    Amazing!

  • how to be a hobo and still makemoney by being in a band.

  • Hi liedman. I have a PhD in preference formation, so I know something about why people like what they do. Some don't like swing jazz from the 50th, and some prefer Lady Gaga's da,da - da,da,da - da,da, and some like Peter. I said I expressed my opinion, then it's not ignorant. I'm not sure if I will educate myself in this music style. To do that, you should have some ideas about the benefit, and I don't.

  • Wie alt ist Peter Broetzmann?

Broetzmann, der deutsche Anarchist in Deutschland, und Kondo, der japanische Anarchist in Musik!

  • I wonder in what key they are playing.

  • Does knowledge about music influence on what you like and dislike? This is not music to me, and it's definitely not jazz. That opinion is not ignorant, it's an expression of what I think. If the "Gorilla" likes it, fine. Have fun. I think that gorillas might have done it better (that was ignorant).

  • @mattissurf just because you dont like it, doesn't mean it is not music. A statement like that is the height of ignorance, even if it is an expression of what you think. Expression... now there's an interesting concept, perhaps you should watch this enlightening video to educate yourself in the matter.

  • so cool!

  • Might I suggest that those who don't know anything about a subject keep their ignorant thoughts to themselves and those acquaintances who can tolerate them.

  • Drums and bass are chaotic but not obscure and insanely dissonant they're all and all nice, but that Sax and trumpet are far from melodic and have a screechy timbre and become more sound effects than melody.

  • after this finished my head went blank and i have a void in my ear

  • oh!!

    ç

  • how the fuck is this guy been around for forty years and he is still recording he's horrible it makes heavy metal look good

  • @md12345go

    too deep fo you

  • Albert Ayler, see what you started!

  • Cannival Corpse is now a children's game, this is a another great level of Music

  • that mo fo is working that rhythm section HARD.

  • Brötzmann developed a classic quality to his style. He is in control of every note he plays. Certainly one of my desert island Jazz saxophonists.

  • Madness! =D

  • Wo --- synthesized trumpet.

  • Peter LOVE your music HAMID best drummer!

  • love to listen ! thanks for posting !

  • Esta cancion se llamo El Desmadre .....,jajaja, demasiado contemporanea

  • @skachanilla demasiado mi ano

  • you have to know how to play jazz before you even begin to care about playing this stuff. peter brotzmann is still arguably the best thing in so called avant-garde jazz or creative high art circles that money can buy! So all you dissin folk go back to your nowheresville while the rest of the cultural elite laugh at you and soak up the ridiculous and questionably artistic, yet undying energy of Peter Brotzmann.

  • @koryjazz

Big props to Peter, but Charles Gayle DID wipe the floor with him in a head to head once. 8D

  • @pffft63 yeah, because music is a quantifiable thing and judgments like that can be made about it. it's not basketball, dude.

  • I have a question...What do they for money?

  • WTF is this shit....?

  • This is what apocalypse sounds like.

  • so fucking intense!!! just brilliant!

  • Disclaimer: No kittens were brutally slaughtered in the making of this video.

    :D

  • Sounds like a Japanese Godzilla movie soundtrack!

  • one of the best jazz quartets in history

  • This feels like a very violent surgery

  • ooh

  • brotzmann at 2:30

  • avante to stab my ears wthl a pencil

  • well, its avantgarde jazz, so its gonna be crazy =)

  • the trumpet sounds like some crazy synthesizer

  • the whole time im like "what the fuck is wrong with his trumpet". and then I realized.... its him

  • wow toshinori sounds like if merzbow picked up a broken trumpet. Parker and Drake are just back there making a nice groove and Brotzmann, is well, Brotzmann. Awesome.

  • that reverb on toshinori sounds like a train in a tunnel.

    and yeah, brotzmann, well... damn

  • woah

  • amazing, just amazing

  • The musical interpretation of a psychotic schizophrenic hearing the voices telling him to kill. ....I guess that is kill music.

  • it's like the trumpet man's saying HEY THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I GOT BURIED ALIVE. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

  • This is such intellectual music!!!

makes me want to tear my eyes, ears and brain out!

it sounds like the music you hear in your head when you get buried alive in a coffin,

which has obviously happened to the trumpet player.

  • ^_^ finall blows your mind Toshinori Kondo is the king

  • Powerful music, but i can't resist saying - if michael jackson ever got in to free improv on trumpet thus would he appear... :)

  • freaky..

  • Kondo is awesome

  • Aaaah, that's amazing! Kondo plays his trumpet like a madman, I just love it!!!!!

Die like a dog is definitely one of the most important bands in history of freejazz.....

  • *shits in his pants*

  • the sick shit!!!

  • i was there! - here's a bit of back story:

They had to switch the order of acts that night, so they had to go on earlier. Then there were problems at sound check w/Kondo's trumpet, and yet someone opened the house, so people were coming in.

  • They're finally ready to hit, but Kondo looks at Peter indicating he wants a break - and walks off. The MC starts to announce the group, Peter takes the mike from the MC and apologizes to the crowd and says we need to take a few minutes before we start. "Im thinking to myself, "OMG, when they come back, this is going to be something". . and sure enough, it was.

  • This concert needs to be issued on CD/DVD asap! Fantastic.

  • in noticed brötzmann, kondo and drake. but what is the name of the bass-player?

anyway, that video & its music is really great!!!!

  • Certainly, it's William Parker on bass.

  • I'm going to book them for my wedding

  • @liojohn Hahaha best comment on youtube I've read in months

  • @liojohn

    Me too!

  • The bassist is so awesome, but I like the electric trumpet player here the most!

  • i love to LISTEN as much as i love to play,

    paul.

  • Wow...what talent!! so intense

Does anyone have the rest of this concert?

    Please post

  • Thank you for posting this. Wonderful.

  • ;-)

  • soooo intense

  • finally some great sounding Brotz related footage...thanks!

  • Hell yes, this is my kind of music

  • Wow - some killer footage here. What's the source? Looks like a TV broadcast of some sort.

I too saw this band at the Empty Bottle Festival in '99. A memorable gig for sure, that I'm surprised was never released on CD. I presented the trio + Kidd Jordan in New Orleans some years back and have seen just the trio version. Both great concerts, but there's something about Kondo. He really takes things up into the stratosphere.

  • One of the BEST live videos ever, if not THE best! Brotzmann is beyond compare. But what makes this movie is the trumpeter Toshinori Kondo. He is a madman and the best trumpeter i have ever heard. i love the communication between the two horns. But of course, what would this be without the drums and bass?

  • That just kicked my ass all over the place!!!

  • Wow... there's a few great Brotzmann vids on youtube, but this one kicks ass.

  • Great!

  • I saw Die Like a Dog Quartet at the empty Bottle Festival quite a few years ago. This band is amazing live. This video gives you a hint of the intensity this quartet generates.

  • Awesome...great...FANTASTIC...I wish I could see these crazy cats live....WOW....more please.

  • Good Lord! Kondo is a frickin' madman! Great stuff!

  • thanks for posting this! a great tribute to ayler!

  • awsome!
