The iPhone isn't all that and other smartphone platforms are actually smart and they have the ability to multi task. I don' have to justify anything :) I own a device (iPhone) that made everything well and has an UI, easy of use, apps that other devices can't offer to me. And in these days newspaper like Times, NYT, WP and so on are plenty of "AppStore is THE revolution of mobile device". And its true.
iPhone opens an era. And today no one can still compete with iPhone in terms of UI, easy of use and Apps. And everybody in the world, even those against Apple, say that. It's a fact. Merry xmas man.
It doesn't matter who's side your on; illustrating that something is better involves being relative. You cannot deny the beautiful simplicity that is the iphone, form and function brought together at it's finest. And droid may be faster, but that's not because the iphone is a "princess." It's because of the network. This commercial just makes the viewer think droid is jealous of the customer base that the iphone has, so it will name call, instead of tell us exactly where it actually does excel.
You see, this is why it's a bad advert. You see perhaps 4 seconds of the phone, (which is what 8% of the ad time?) and you don't learn anything about it other than it's messy, ugly and fast.
iPhone ads on the other hand, show you what it does, what it can do, and the actual product throughout the entirety of the advert.
That's an interesting point. If the DROID ads demonstrates how something is more easily accomplished, that would surely turn heads a lot more than this abstract image.
In fact, behind the scenes, Verizon is still trying to make deals with Apple in order to sell to be able to sell iPhones. So all this anti-iPhone advertising nonsense you see is actually very insincere.

Understandably the iPhone 2G was a mess it was so slow. With the better games of course. The 3G i've never used, but the 3GS is amazingly fast.
The only thing keeping me from playing most of the games straight away is the company logos that push their way in. A song in Rock Band or Tap Tap loads in under 3 seconds.
Either the marketing is awesome, the phone is great or both because Droid is the fastest selling Android phone.

dreadful. watch the ad with no audio. editing is so fast that it is not clear at all what we are seeing, except for stuff blowing up and splattering on the screen. I don't want a phone that does that. when you listen to the audio, it says "design is for pussies. i want a phone that I can throw through a wall". it does a big disservice to what is otherwise a nice phone. quit comparing it to other phones and talk about what is unique and cool about it.

Because first of all AT&T has almost no 3G service anywhere and second off all I tested my IPhone 3GS vs. my Motorola Droid and both had full service in Manhattan the Droid loaded pages faster and download apps faster than the IPhone. Also doesn't help that the 3GS drops alot more calls than the Droid. Until AT&T gets smart and stops attacking Verizon with there stupid commercials and starts wasting money like BUILDING THERE NETWORK better. Verizon will always be ahead and better.
Ok. This is a Verizon commercial and there is no Verizon in Europe so this discussion has nothing to do with Europe we are talking about the USA only the commercial specifically says Verizon. Pay Attention first. Second of all there is no such thing called the Droid in Europe. It's called the Motorola Milestone which rumored only is supposed to come out today. So u never tested the Milestone there against the 3GS. Which use the same type bands and cell phone access. You fail.
I've seen tests of the droid on wifi against the iPhone, and I believe the release date of the milestone in some countries are today.
I'm just saying that the droid is not the faster phone. And it really isn't. I have no problem seeing that AT&Ts network suck. But for most of the world planning to buy a new phone that doesn't matter.

Well, I'm sitting here with both phones right now. I like the Droid. I really, really like the Droid. If there were no iPhone, I'd have a Droid. (Ironically, if there were no iPHone there probably wouldn't be a Droid either.) Nonetheless, while the commercial is clever and truthful on a certain level, the Droid just doesn't work as well or as fast as the iPhone. But... give them time. Then again, Apple doesn't just sit around waiting either...
By the way... I'm in the Hollywood Hills. I have 4 bars of service on my iPhone... zip, nada, nothing on this Droid. Also... though the iPhone is generally faster, the browser on the Droid is slightly faster when using WiFi.
There would still be an Droid with or without the iPhone. Google Android has been in development since 2005, long before Apple announced the iPhone. And the Droid wasn't developed because of the iPhone, it was developed due to Motorola losing heavily since the RZR to everyone! So much so that they took on android to help them get back into the game. This is there comeback phone - they are letting google handle the OS so they don't have to. Btw, it's Verizon making these ads, not Motorola.
Indeed it was, but for people to assume that all these Android devices are iPhone copies are inherently incorrect. Both where developed in secret of each other, and both would exist regardless of each other. And in the case of the Motorola Droid, it was Nokia and RIMs dominance that have lead them to team up with Google, not the iPhone. It is Verizon taking these shots at the iPhone, not Motorola. Non US Droid/Milestone ads have no such shots at apple in them.
This phone sucks... I went to the store and looked at it and I could barely type on the keyboard because the keyboard was so crappy. I'm sticking with a phone that you can actually USE.
The target market for the droid isn't the everyday iDiot. They're attempting to market people who have extensive knowledge of the hardware and software within the phone, who are capable of writing their own apps for Android and do not like Apple for various reasons. These advertisements obviously target that market and show the capability of the phone, as well as knock Apple. If you take a step back and realize who they are marketing to, the ads are rather effective.

The IPhone is not just stylish its the phone that redefined a whole industry. Absolutely everybody measures their phones against the standard which is the IPhone. But none of them has a catalog of apps, movies, and music as big as Apple. You can say that Apple started a new revolution in computing with far more reaching power than the PC. I recently purchased a droid phone and the best thing I can say about it is it sucks....I just love the force close 15 times a day.....really neat feature in a new phone....It performs like something held together with duct tape so in that regard I thank verizon for pointing out that I bought a piece of crap...Now that I've learned, I'll be picking the iphone.....
I like the HTC version with the slightly older OS in it - the new Motorola is too boxy and bulky for me. I do like the commercial though - I've known 5 people who have bought iPhones and every one of them said that after their initial "this is cool" reaction, they would not buy one again because of the VERY poor battery life and bad call quality.
Verizon is EPIC failing in the ad department. All they have to do is make a 30 second CGI of a Droid phone transforming, ripping apart an iPhone and then turning into a mini-fighter jet and blasting off at supersonic, then the DROID logo, and then the Verizon logo.
What do you mean by that? There are plenty of adults who liked the Transformer movies, but I'd imagine it as more viral, cam-leak kind of feel. Shaky video and all that.
Plenty of people have tested that, while the Droid does end up being 3G fast in more places, that the Droid and iPhone browsers are basically the same in loading times and that the AT&T is faster than VW's, while obviously being less widespread (if you haven't seen a Verizon map ad, you haven't watched TV in awhile).

for me greg I use my 3G network to handle my company's work sometimes and is quite fast. But how can one have a "fake" or "real" network coverage. 1) I used to own the iphone 3G and now own the Motorola Droid
2) Verizon was originally offered the iPhone and turned it down because Apple wanted too much control over stuff like pricing, updates, etc.
3) Verizon and Apple are now speaking to bring the iPhone to Verizon under Verizon's terms
4) Excluding the Apps, the Droid is the better phone especially with the update the Droid just got (Android 2.01)
5) I like the look of the iPhone AND the Droid, i don't see why so many people hate the look

dreadful. watch the ad with no audio. editing is so fast that it is not clear at all what we are seeing, except for stuff blowing up and splattering on the screen. I don't want a phone that does that. when you listen to the audio, it says "design is for pussies. i want a phone that I can throw through a wall". it does a big disservice to what is otherwise a nice phone. quit comparing it to other phones and talk about what is unique and cool about it.

The Droid may not be all that, but Motorola has some Android phones that blow the iPhone away. By the way, they also are able to make phone calls on a reliable network. I had an iPhone for 3 years and now that I've discovered Android, won't ever look back.

That's a lie. Because first of all AT&T has almost no 3G service anywhere and second off all I tested my IPhone 3GS vs. my Motorola Droid and both had full service in Manhattan the Droid loaded pages faster and download apps faster than the IPhone. Also doesn't help that the 3GS drops alot more calls than the Droid. Until AT&T gets smart and stops attacking Verizon with there stupid commercials and starts wasting money like BUILDING THERE NETWORK better. Verizon will always be ahead and better.

Ok. This is a Verizon commercial and there is no Verizon in Europe so this discussion has nothing to do with Europe we are talking about the USA only the commercial specifically says Verizon. Pay Attention first. Second of all there is no such thing called the Droid in Europe. It's called the Motorola Milestone which rumored only is supposed to come out today. So u never tested the Milestone there against the 3GS. Which use the same type bands and cell phone access. You fail.

I've seen tests of the droid on wifi against the iPhone, and I believe the release date of the milestone in some countries are today.
I'm just saying that the droid is not the faster phone. And it really isn't. I have no problem seeing that AT&Ts network suck. But for most of the world planning to buy a new phone that doesn't matter.
And if Verizon and Motorola were honest, they would say that the iPhone's problem is AT&T. And they didn't even mention AT&T in this ad.

Well, I'm sitting here with both phones right now. I like the Droid. I really, really like the Droid. If there were no iPhone, I'd have a Droid. (Ironically, if there were no iPHone there probably wouldn't be a Droid either.) Nonetheless, while the commercial is clever and truthful on a certain level, the Droid just doesn't work as well or as fast as the iPhone. But... give them time. Then again, Apple doesn't just sit around waiting either...

There would still be an Droid with or without the iPhone. Google Android has been in development since 2005, long before Apple announced the iPhone. And the Droid wasn't developed because of the iPhone, it was developed due to Motorola losing heavily since the RZR to everyone! So much so that they took on android to help them get back into the game. This is there comeback phone - they are letting google handle the OS so they don't have to. Btw, it's Verizon making these ads, not Motorola.

Indeed it was, but for people to assume that all these Android devices are iPhone copies are inherently incorrect. Both where developed in secret of each other, and both would exist regardless of each other. And in the case of the Motorola Droid, it was Nokia and RIMs dominance that have lead them to team up with Google, not the iPhone. It is Verizon taking these shots at the iPhone, not Motorola. Non US Droid/Milestone ads have no such shots at apple in them.

The target market for the droid isn't the everyday iDiot. They're attempting to market people who have extensive knowledge of the hardware and software within the phone, who are capable of writing their own apps for Android and do not like Apple for various reasons. These advertisements obviously target that market and show the capability of the phone, as well as knock Apple. If you take a step back and realize who they are marketing to, the ads are rather effective.

An elderly lady I know once told me that Motorola has always been a second rate company with second rate products and this one is no different.
What do you expect of a company that can lay off 100,000 Americans then borrow $25 million dollars from the US Export-Import bank to build a factory in China and hire Chinese?
I urge all Americans whose lives have been touched by layoffs downsizing or offshoring to reject this and all Motorola products as a message to them that we won't forget this.

The IPhone is not just stylish its the phone that redefined a whole industry. Absolutely everybody measures their phones against the standard which is the IPhone. But none of them has a catalog of apps, movies, and music as big as Apple. You can say that Apple started a new revolution in computing with far more reaching power than the PC. I say that because you can not carry a PC in your pocket. The Droid maybe a good phone but its still following the lead of the IPhone.

You guys are all retards. The iphone is a great phone... but the amount that they limit it's customers is by far ridiculous. They have high standards for apps and the amount of customization is very limited. The droid allows for complete customization without being jailbroken, has free gps, a larger screen, is faster then the 3gs, is on a 200% better network, and is much faster.

I have a Voyager, and the touch screen is a piece of shit.
So I went into a Verizon store to check out the Droid and found out it was a piece of shit as well. I have tried the iPHONE, and its fukken hands down the most responsive little gadget ever built.
But I wouldnt get stuck with AT&T's shitty coverage for all the bling in a phone. I will simply wait until they perfect the Droid or something better comes along. Thank you very much.

I must be the only person that loves this ad, then. Don't own a Droid and don't plan to any time soon (don't need that extra data dent on my Verizon bill, no thanks!) but the whole damn concept is just catchy as hell. It's a "f-you, get-out-of-my-way" style ad that absolutely mauls everything I hate about 90% of the world. With a downright awesome soundtrack to boot. I'd love to know the name (if any) of that song behind it...

I recently purchased a droid phone and the best thing I can say about it is it sucks....I just love the force close 15 times a day.....really neat feature in a new phone....It performs like something held together with duct tape so in that regard I thank verizon for pointing out that I bought a piece of crap...Now that I've learned, I'll be picking the iphone.....

I like the HTC version with the slightly older OS in it - the new Motorola is too boxy and bulky for me. I do like the commercial though - I've known 5 people who have bought iPhones and every one of them said that after their initial "this is cool" reaction, they would not buy one again because of the VERY poor battery life and bad call quality.

Plenty of people have tested that, while the Droid does end up being 3G fast in more places, that the Droid and iPhone browsers are basically the same in loading times and that the AT&T is faster than VW's, while obviously being less widespread (if you haven't seen a Verizon map ad, you haven't watched TV in awhile).

for me greg I use my 3G network to handle my company's work sometimes and is quite fast. But how can one have a "fake" or "real" network coverage. I haven't had any issues with my network (T-Mobile) on the east coast (RI, NY, MA, and CT). And calls are almost always dropped when I'm on the phone with someone using an iPhone. For real

You guys have to remember why Apple isn't #1 in computers, because they limit themselves exclusively.
They do it with all their products and now the iPhone. So the iPhone can only be used on AT&T where the Android can be used now on T-Mobile and Verizon....whats next? Sprint?
Soon the android will be flooded on many different phones just like Windows is on many different computers.
If Apple was going to go exclusive, they should have gone with the biggest wireless phone company.

Apple still owns the music and games department, the most popular forms of entertainment on these devices. And with the new Iphone launching next year at reduced prices, followed by Apple ending it's license agreement with AT&T either in late 2010 or sometime in 2011/early2012, Android will take a while before it can fully rival Apple (not in features, but in users).
This competition, however, will only make Android better, I think I'll give it a year or so before I trade in my iphone for one
