did u do this as an encore? it's a little distracting seeing your accompanist and page turner sitting there doing nothing. remember performance is 50% visual whether you like it or not. you sounded great.
So I've had my rose book for about a year now, a little over, so I'm familiar enough with the piece, but I never would have imagined that it could be played like this. Your sound was soft, almost like velvet, and the dynamics were rich too. How can you play that soft and maintain the same tone?
Wow. Simply put. This was a great encouragement. Thanks so much for posting it.
I would post more of the recital if I could find a way to get the video off of the DVD and into my computer. The program I used for this isn't working any more. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My point is that no one can tell on *this* clip. The point should be that he is playing very well and musically regardless of the maker of the clarinet. It's about the musician not the equipment.
Well I'm sorry and on second thought I should have said that you could definitely hear that he's playing a selmer Signature clarinet. I feel like they have a very different sound from many other clarinets such as Leblanc OpusII,Buffets and Selmer Saint Louis just to name few.
I know about the version - it's nice. Right after this, the pianist did work, playing Bassi Rigoletto Fantasy with me. I don't have the software to close-up on me, so she's in the vid.
Hi Sean. Your Rose performance sounds great. I wish the accompaniments were out in piano score already, but they are not. With luck they may show up sometime in '08 as pdf files on the accompaniment CD. It's all up to Carl Fischer at this point.
If you are ever in, or remotely near, South Dakota, I have the piano scores (having composed them) and would be happy to play through any of the Etudes with you... Or anyone else, for that matter.
i had to play this once for regionals! :D

it's too fast and there could be more expression with the dynamics in my opinion.

Diaphragm support is key to good tone and control.

How you can deffinatly hear that you are NOT playing on Buffet clarinet.

Now that is just silly....

Yeah I know Buffets are the way to go :)

Buffet is a great clarinet, no doubt, but to say you can hear he is not playing one on this clip is just silly. Maybe in person, but not on this.

So is he playing on Buffet ?

He is playing a Selmer Signature with a custom made Dan Johnston mouthpiece.

Chances are you will probably sound the same on what ever instrument.
overlord1294 2 years ago
What are you smoking, each instrument has it's own timbre(color) which make it sound unique from other instruments.

You might have put the pianist to work...there is a published and masterful piano accompaniment for the 32 Rose. But you knew that, right?
