@LeCoLe313 okay, that means your proxy ip is invalid. After a period of time, the proxy will die out. So in this case you have a dead proxy. get a new one on google, and then try it out.

no public proxy server list sites that I can find list the IP and port of the listed servers, but instead just list the domain name so I can't copy down the IP and port to use somewhere else (school). And obviously accessing the same sites through a school anal lockdown is downright impossible to do directly from the client to the network.

yes you can, but it's kind of out of the scope of this tut. sorry, bit short on time but, a tip, your pc, when connected to the net, is just like any otehr box on that network we call the net .. so in principle it has the same capabilities as the most powerful machine out there ... er, but then you gotta configure it :D

cheers 03matherb .. what that means is that some sites may not grant you access via the proxy. but. they have no way of telling what is your ip/who you are. try another proxy.

To use high bandwidth - you probably need a custom solution, such as your own proxy on a Virtual Private Server (start about $15/month but you can recover costs by hosting other sites, offering proxy services and suchlike) else you may need to pay for a 'professional' proxy service (from someone who is doing the above, quite likely.)

Free proxies reset pretty frequently, sure, but active proxy community members will source and share free addresses.

Basically, get involved in free proxy forums in a dedicated way for quality proxies, else build a proxy server, else pay for one, or google those easy-find ad hoc proxies for the occasional, slow, proxy service.

- if you pay for a super perfast private proxy, else build you own on, say, a VPS (see my series) then yes

- otherwise, no. cos free proxy IPs generally run a little slow.

.. aah, i imagine the proxy IP you're using is redundant. they can expire quite quickly, after which you'll have to use another.

You could look at squid proxy I believe it does the job, my networking knowledge is probably not enough to set it up though.
