This is another myth that the American media shoved down the throats of the rest of the world. Santos Dumont's flight was documented in video, audio, newspapers and hundreds of witnesses. Besides the obvious differences between the machines since the Wright Brothers invented something like "The Thing" but not a plane, it certainly would be a great judicial dispute if the Patent Office, not flown by American patriots.
HISTORY LESSON: The first person to build and fly a heavier-than-air machine was the New Zealander Richard Pearce who flew 9 months before The Wright Brothers. The Wright Brothers were the first people to perform what is called ‘controlled’ flight. The first person to actual build & fly a mechanised plane, complete a powered-flight was Richard Pearce.
Há, há, há..Looooser!! Flyer I is a joke...no take off similary in 1903. Alpheus Drinkwater said: The Flyer I never flew in 1903. Santos Dumont take off without catapult and wind. Santos Dumont is the guy.
What a joke! No kidding that thing didnt take off. The brothers never could make it with a such heavy plane and such low horse power engine. I can make a cow fly when there is a hurricane to help a little bit!!!!
14 Biz took off in front of 50 thousand people! Santos Dumont is the real father of the flights!
I was there with a good raincoat. Thanks for posting the vid. Brings back good memories. Really wish they hadn't tried to launch without a stiff wind. We all know it wasn't going to leave the ground without wind.
