  • And the blades aren't stroboscopic, they are two whole pieces of metal hidden in his forearms. It still doesn't make them any less recognizable and noisy (?) - somehow in-game they are inexplicably producing more noise than WWE-style smackdowns do... Rule of Cool, I guess.

  • Umm... the little tidbits found in Adam's flat actually DO mention 'bonsai gardening for last six months'. Well, of course they don't - we only see that he's been practicing assembling clockwork and firearms, but still. Though I do agree that this bits should've been placed much earlier in the story.

  • i actually really liked the sunglasses, because the entire game in gold yellow dark brown ish, what does life look like when you wear SUN glasses? dark brown with some gold yellow in the light, it kept up with the theme colors of the game, this being a GOLDEN age before the great collapse in deus ex 1 and invisible war, granted it's not really explained, but lets just say that he really liked wearing sun glasses in his spare time, maybe he's descended from jack nicholson

  • PLEASE do that piece of shit final fantasy XIII next

  • Great series so far. Are you planning on analysing The Missing Link as well?

  • good analysis!

  • I think the arm blades are acceptable seeing as how Adam is meant to be a superb martial artist and capable of taking most enemiese in a straight fight. Sure, it's a little childish and there for the "cool" factor, but I find it excusable.

Also, it's very safe to assume that Adam has been practicing the use of his augments during the 6months, seeing as how he is fairly adept with them.

The whole hostage situation can introduce people to the gameplay and provides a starting point for the plot.

  • Usually I get what you're saying. But I had to listen three times now and I still don't get your point. What's the problem with the hostage situation?

  • @LordMida

The hostage situation was good for character, pointless for plot. The focus of the factory plot was to acquire the Typhoon, which I recommended could be combined with the hacker scene to have value. The plot for Adam, in that capacity, was pointless (revenge, discovery), except where Malik is concerned.

  • @smudboy i think your forgetting something......gameplay.

  • Smudboy,

You sound a lot like Carl Sagan.

    Carl Sagan is my hero.

Thank you for these videos, you do an incredible job.

  • Yeah, the built-in sunglasses are silly, I know they possibly display the HUD and other information, but it'd be far more interesting for the eyes to have a synthetic retractable layer that covers the cornea, or a second pair of eyelids.

I never actually thought about the arm-blades before ... keep telling yourself it's just a game (!)

PS. I'm liking Alpha Protocol as a reference-point, that's a really underrated game.

  • @WeHaveExplosive Vut hey, blades are still better than an arm-built machine gun!

  • Well, the "you got an aug in your team" argument was present from the beggining of the conversation. Zeke seems to have a clue what's happening mu must "check something out" so it's now one of his reasons to get out of the facility. And - as story explained later - he DID knew something but wasn't sure of it.

Besides, it seems that the Proxie was the one who suggested taking hostages so the traitor actually IS responsible for this situation!

  • Interesting discussion. I look forward to your next one. :)

  • The sunglasses: You'll notice when he's first augmented he constantly has them on but later on he stops wearing them. It's a weird "eyes are opened" metaphor.

  • @wigglewaggleify My view: "eyes are windows to the soul" (because you can tell person's emotional state just by looking at them, they represent humanity) and he covers them up with sunglasses, which symbolizes his detachment from his own humanity because of all the augmentations. When he meets Megan he removes them because he gets emotional, starts feeling like a human again, but then he puts them back on once he realizes that Megan isn't really what he thinks she is.

  • Arm swords because . . . WHY THE HELL NOT!! *derp*

  • What possible use is an arm sword for a security guy? Really?

  • The hud is probably on the glasses.

  • Comment removed

  • Why does he have sunglasses. Cos it makes him look like a bad ass mafucker

  • Though granted, the game doesn't bother to explain any possible practical value of the sunglasses at all, and it's an augment that should have been consistent with the other augmented supersoldiers in the story.

  • @brized Well, it's not like that many people besides JC wore sunglasses in the first Deus Ex. It looked corny there and it looks pretty corny here as well.

  • @ProkoLokor Tell that to game devs' marketing team so it doesn't happen next time, thanks.

  • Other than to look cool and be sorta like JC Denton, the sunglasses are for eye protection. When you fire a pistol or rifle, you have to worry about hot brass from your own spent casings hitting you in the eye.

In the case of demolitions, you have to worry about your eye being damaged by fragmentations. See standards ANSI Z87.1-2010, MIL-PRF-31013, etc.

Even with implanted eyes, you still have flesh around the eye that can be damged and obstruct vision.

  • Wow, wow, wow! Great stuff, Smud. Love this game. Definitely watching the series. How many more parts are still on the way?

  • *that Adam had at some point asked Sarif

  • Same with the sword arms, though I wish there was something in the story to indicate that Adam asking Sarif "Hey, what the hell is with these arm blades, boss?"

  • @smudboy Yeah, the built-in sunglasses HUD is probably the most superfluous of Adam's augmentations. I think the best explaination you'll get for that is that they're the result of Sarif stepping in halfway through the surgery and telling LIMB to butcher Adam more than necessary to install as many augs as possible.

  • YEESS

    Waited all day for this

    Thanks Smudboy

  • Man,i'm so getting this game just to analyze your analysis.
