  • I first heard Joan sing this in '65 (I think...memory is a bit fuzzy) and was receptive to it's anti-war sentiment....but by the early '70's I realized Joan was just a tool, like so many of us had been (or still are). Now, I just enjoy her beautiful voice and wait for the collapse.

  • Voices, might get older & frail...the song still lives on in all reality!

  • WOW!!! These are the voices of 2012?? Sad.....

  • ya know,ya just can't yell out fire, fire, fire in a crowded movie house,,or for that matter in a crowded world

  • Bless Pete and Joan...

  • FUCK COMMUNICM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic song, Still await Bush & Blair to appologise for taking both our countries in to an illegal war. They both have blood in thier hands

  • Where have all the voices gone...

    ...like hers...

  • This just makes me so angry, but, and yet, so appreciative of the world. Because the world is filled with both greedy, idiotic, egoistic, self-destructive, arrogant pricks and people who are contemplative, caring, loving, nurturing, holistic and accepting. Gah...I wish the whole world could be more like my country, New Zealand. Maybe its because we are surrounded by water, our enemies all play rugby and we're just one big small town. Anyway, if you want to feel better, don't read too much news!

  • what a wonderful person

  • F***! She made me cry :-(

  • Juan Baez eh de dentro, do coração e não do tempo...

  • All flowers during vietnam war was a history now lets do serve our elders and kindly have my song

  • I remember my Summer when at a park this song was sung between my Junion and Senior H.S. year. It was called a HootinAnnie, but it was anti-war, and a few years later I volunteered for Viet Nam inU.s. ARMY. When I came back , I was never the same. I noticed traitors and greedy politicians and their friends in MY

country. Regret having fired at the Viet Nam enemy more every year, NOW I KNOW we should have Arrested McNamara, LBJ, and the BANKERS on Wall St.

  • <<<< Very proud hippie bitch :)

  • almost 40 years after Woodstock and she sings so perfect. wow... incredible! She's an amazing artist I knew nothing about!

  • Great song and beautiful voice.

  • Beautiful, Beatiful song, and sung in Joan's inimitable and soulful style! What a voice! After all these years, still the same golden voice.

  • Beautiful, Beatiful song, and sung in Joan's inimitable and soulful style! What a voice!

  • pierced m hheart again thank you joan, thank you.

  • This is a song from one Czech singer since the time when Czecoslovakia existed. I m Slovakian and I have to say Thank u!!! Thank u for sharing the same feelings and nostalgy all around the world that the people in my countrey had and have. They are the generation that educate my generation and I hope one day everyone will understand! :))

  • This song reminds me of the knife scene in Saving Private Ryan, one soldier pushes the knife into the other solder while saying "shhhh.. shhh..'' don't cry, guys ii I think it is not Joan's voice that pierces our hearts, or even the wars that makes us cry, it is the sheer total stupidity and sadness of the 2nd half of the 20th century--- and continues today.

  • Joan Baez est une femme extraordinaire et elle a une très belle voix !

  • Yes, when will they ever learn?

  • So beautiful, so true...

  • For Anna Yorkinenn of Finland. Prague and Budapest 1981.

  • Where have all the flowers gone? Where have all the humanity gone? Where have the moral gone? Where have all the USA gone? Where have the USA soldiers gone? Where have the crazy TEA PARTY gone? Where have all de Europe gone? Where have all the happy gone? Where have all of us gone? Where have the world gone? Please. someone give me the answer. It is easy? Of course not!

  • @hell4367

Sign of the times? Prophetic times for a great tribulation to follow.

  • @hell4367 Where has all the Skrillex gone?

  • @hell4367 , i'm trying times. Listen to times this. Beethoven's Symphony No.7 Alegretto.

People have made this, and this gives me the believe in the mankind back.(and other things)

  • i dont think ive listened to this song from begining to end in 30 years and the message should not be forgotten.America you can have a better future than a choice between two conservative visions .thank you joan for keeping that hope alive

  • Thank you Joan for the music.

  • I have a daughter with a fatal disease. I have lost too many, too soon. I am only left to myself, which is worth nothing wthout those I love.

  • Joanie can still sing, but she's still a lefty in every sense.

  • The irony is: if it weren't for our miltary, no one would be able to protest!

  • @256darrell Not true.

  • @256darrell The irony is, if there were no militaries, no one would be able to stop you from protesting. On the other hand, maybe there wouldn't be any need to protest at all.

  • i love you

  • Her voice is still so gorgeous.

  • Why is it everyone blames the soldiers,Sailors Airman and Marines for the wars this country get's into being a veteran and proud as all hell of being one .Why do we get blamed for the war we don;t start them POLITICIANS do we just fight and die in them.So to all you people out thier who insult spit call baby killers think before you engage your mouths and go yell at the POLITICIANS not the service people.

  • @shooterman20kills

well you could have chosen to be a baker. instead of killing kids you could have fed them

  • @shooterman20kills Without the universal soldier Hitler and Ceasar would have stood alone.

  • @shooterman20kills This song is NOT about blaming soldiers. It's about blaming the people who send soldiers on death missions for profit. That would be politicians and corporations and the misguided people who vote for and buy from them. You're taking blame that's not been assigned to you.

  • The greatest female voice of all time!

  • This is an example of a beautiful voice. She can sing. A rarity today.

  • just amazingly beautiful.

  • wow , she lived the death of so many in stupid wars, and her voice still resonates that pain ,sorrow, and futility,... young ones please remember the sorrow that so many of us elders 'lived thru'. Baez rocks

  • Esta mina me hizo llorar, me hace llorar y me hara llorar toda la vida. No es cierto que es yankee mas bien es de otra galaxia

  • when will we ever learn?

  • She is in amazing voice here!

  • Where are the Joan Baez's of today? We are in dire need of some....

  • Buckworth- your a total idiot..

  • kult

  • I don't want to sing this song forever. I love the peace. from japan

  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.

  • First off, there were no aircraft that hit the WTC that awful day, just 3D holograms. Anyone see any flaming parts of an aircraft fall to the sidewalks that day?

    NO

Our new modern buildings eat aircraft (as the NWO gang would like us to believe)

    (Back to the subject)

Look up her comments when the Soviets invaded Cechosalvakia back in 1968.

And I will note who whines about the spelling vs. who bothers to research her comments.

  • Didn't Scott Fitzgerald say something about harboring two distinctly different opinions and still functioning? For decades I can weep in sympathy for what Joan Baez believes but I am still proud of what the Princess Pats did wherever they fought. God help me.

  • year after year, we still believe. It can happen that our believes change on the way. but, still, we believe. That's it. That's all.

  • it sounds better in german.....

  • Stupids believe life is fitting.

    Wise know life is enjoyment

  • long after your Bushes, Obamas, Palins et al Baez will still echo down the years

  • Plenty of new bombs are produced every year, so why not drop them on some people abroad? that wil keep the military industries going, and that also keep our people busy with supporting the troops! our mass media will do what they do best: cover up the crimes. It's business as usual too, for our congressmen. Money will continue to flow for those who want to get rich! Amen.

  • sux.

  • In WW I a generation died in a war to end all wars. The peace treaty was so unfair that WW II was nearly unavoidable. And again in 1945 many hoped it was the last war.

And today? Germany was disarmed in 1945 for being an aggressive warrior nation and today we criticise them for not joining the bombing raids in Lybia. Strange turn of views.

Joan's song is so true in one particular point. At the alleged end it starts again. There is no war to end all wars.

  • still beautiful after all these years, sounds great.

  • @amelia Not only a douchebag but also a mental midgit

  • Awesome that she's still rockin!

  • As one of the original baby boomers who was there in the 60's it is really interesting that a song as simple and straightforward as this can still get people as riled up now over the middle eastern atrocities as is did back during Nam. When will we ever learn?!?!

  • Dan5619, with all due respect, you are either misinformed or just plain wrong. Nobody hates you. They hate seeing kids die... especially when it is for no good reason. Just because we have a military full of patriots who are ready and willing to die for their country, that doesn't mean they should be sacrificed on a whim.... and, for the record, I am a bleeding heart liberal, and I whooped as loudly as anybody when I heard Bin Laden was dead.

  • @tallkennj i truly hope your whooping dont come back to deafen you

  • Should have been in the Bin Laden compound when it was raided! Why is it that liberals who are suppose to be for peace, have so much hate for those of us who do not agree with them? Jane Fonda, Cindy Sheehan, etc... The list of hate filled Peace, Love, and War misguided 60's folks is endless.

  • @ amelia: I agree with the person who called you a douchebag. But you're not just a douchebag, you are also a mind boggling stupid douchebag. In fact, I've just invented a new word to describe you. DOUCHETARD.

  • This is beautiful x

  • Take that, stupid pop singers!

Decades later, the VOICE IS STILL CLEAR!!

    GO, JOAN!

  • Amalia you're a douchebag. Learn to reason tbh.

  • That was great. What great voice.

  • a shame that some people fight verbal battles and practice verbal slanders under a video which contains such a peaceful and beautiful song. It's cutting irony isn't it?

  • @ZimtChipsss your comment is superb ! Cheers to peace, love, harmony and that wonderful and talented singer ! Greetings from brazil 1

  • @ZimtChipsss when will they ever learn?

  • @CpuModern never...

  • strange comments ..does not surprise me..things certainly have changed since 2006 when this was uploaded..love will reign supreme....the meek will inherit the earth...the light will overtake the dark........so it is written

  • @leklek69

you are an asshole.....how do you know what happened in their bedroom you stupid fucker?

  • @lway56

I DO AGREE WITH YOU !!!

How can people be so crude ?!?! In front of such a marvellous song and singer...

NEVRMIND, WO DO LOVE YOU OVERHERE, Dear Joan !!!

    Monique from Paris/France

  • so beautiful i loved her when I was young and I still love her music

  • she must be so pissed of our actual world...

  • @binstence

That is simply not true - for those of us who are pacifists, it doesn't matter who is in charge. Regular demonstrations continue in my city, for instance, It is just not covered in the press. And Clinton and Obama are still criticized. The rhetric changes, some people get worn out, and there are a few fair weather activists who are simply antirepublican, but at its heart the peace movement is critical of war whoever is in office.

  • @bailinnumberguy there was no chance that we would have been speaking arabic in the war on terror, so this is clearly not the same.

  • Joan Baez proves, yet again, that a single human voice backed up only by an acoustic guitar is STILL the most beautiful music of all.

  • JUST AWESOME! STILL MAKES ME CRY!

  • @binstence you dont remember the protests against LBJ... please don't pretend there is love between the left and the dems.

  • I am anti war as well...But I am anti-war , no matter who is President. War is an extremely expensive and bloody business where only the elite profit and everyone else be dammed. I am going to an anti war march today.

However, do not assume that I am against ALL war, because I am for defensive war.. By the way as long as the government has armies and guns, so do I want my guns to protect myself from the "terrorists", whether they are crazy arabs, jews, or my own government

  • @binstence Joan is anti-war no matter who is office. What point are you trying to make?

  • Love this song...her version is good...i think SCTV did a spoof of her..Andrea Martin rocks..

  • she is the one of the greatest singers of all time. i first heard this incredible song sung at a live performance by marlene dietrich

  • nice voice.

  • Nice voice, but I can't stand to hear her talk.

  • VIVA JOAN!

  • Someone's Caps Lock button broke...

    Anyway. Long Live Joan! =]

  • @jonmaris1 where have all the british soldiers gone?re they footing the lionshare of the cost of the war?PSUEDO SOLDIER!

  • THE TWENTY-YEAR-OLDS OF THE 60'S.....ARE THE 60-70YEAR -OLD FARTS WHO ARE RULING THE WORLD NOW AND CAUSING ALL THE DESTRUCTION AND WAR OF TODAY.. THEY NEVER LEARNED, DID THEY?

  • @amalialovesicecream THE OLD FARTS YOU,RE REFERING TO ARE THE YUPPIES.WE HIPPIES STILL REMEMBER.

  • @61TUNER VERY VERY TRUE!!!!!!!

  • It is like a prayer when she sings it .. she touches your heart

  • I love your music ! My mum played your tapes flat out when i was a child !!! She is gone now but your music is still hear with me !!! Thank you for making her happy.

  • u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. also i didnt start this

  • @Freakycupcake1 ANOTHER DUMB AS POSTING A CHAIN LETTER,ON OUR TUBE?YOU,RE STUPID ENOUGH TO GO FOR SUPERSTITIOUS PARANOIA,I HOPE SHE DOES KILL YOUR ASS ANYWAY.INBREED.

  • Reminding me of Woodstock days.. Those were very moving times and quite the experience to grow up with. It's unfortunate that there will never be world peace in my lifetime. Wonder if people will ever learn how to work together?

  • @MsWeedLady WHEN THEY HAVE THE GOOD SENSE TO GET THE MAN OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT/KEEP HIM OUT?.THERES A VERY GOOD CHANCE!

  • @BuckworthJackson American GI during WW2. There's been no reason for our soldiers to die since then...except blood for oil.

  • @CDeanWatcher Vietnam? Korea? BOTH anti-Communist paranoia!

  • @BuckworthJackson

You must be one of the armed and dangerous tea baggers. War and violence solves everything. Sent any death threats to democrat politicians lately? I guess anyone who advocates peace is just a dirty hippy, huh?

  • @bellestarr21445 LOL !!!!

I'm a retired union officer. I just did a bit of digging on why we got into VN. Having the funds and sources, I know what I'm talking about. Yes, JFK was killed as he wanted to pull the troops out and investigate/shut the Federal Reserve.

(And if you want to know who killed him ? ask the Vatican, they just wanted to protect their investmenst in the rubber and rice fields of Viet Nam)

  • @bellestarr21445 no you're just a dirty hippy, we might be "tea baggers" but you are the "tea baggees!!" How do you them balls on your face, EH???

  • @BuckworthJackson WHAT WOULD SHE DO WITH YOUR CLOTHES?HER EFFORTS HAVE MADE FOR A LOT OF GOOD IN THE WORLD.NOW WHEN THE MAN TELLS YOU TO GO FIGHT HIS FINANCIAL CAMPAIGN YOU CAN TELL HIM TO EAT SHIT/NOT BE PUT IN FEDERAL PRISON. ARE YOU EVEN ON THE FRONT LINES POINTING A WEAPON?DID,NT THINK SO.

  • @61TUNER

    Huuuh?

Please explain. (and yes, she is a multi-millionaire)

  • Comment removed

  • @61TUNER

First off, I'm considered a 'truther' - there were no aircraft hitting the Twin Towers on 9-11, just holograms. Anyone see any wreckage fall to ground? of course not!

Please note during WW2, a B-25 bomber hit the Empire State building while lost in a fog. This A/C did not penetrate building, nor start a fire. And how about WTC Building 7?

Oh - II have to concede the NWO gang is good, even to the point of using Arabs as a foil (because frankly, no trusts them or even should)

  • @BuckworthJackson Dude,, Drugs are NOT your friend.. time for you to give up glue sniffing and move away from the Smack laden syringe ... You're a sad sad little man..

  • @BuckworthJackson PLEASE NOTE.I,M WELL AWARE THE 9/11 THING DO,NT SMELL RIGHT/PRESIDENT OBAMA BIN-LADEN MAY WELL BE A PIECE OF SHIT LYING-ASS FOREIGNER.SO YOU MUST HAVE MISTAKEN ME FOR SOME OTHER POSTER/YOUR ON A TWO/THREE MONTH TANGENT.

  • @BuckworthJackson Brah, WW2 planes were made of wood, and cloth. Not exactly the same thing. Furthermore, while you may be right that there are people who hold a privileged position and seek to keep it, I sincerely doubt that the people who flew the aircraft into the WTC buildings were in any shape or form puppets of your "NWO".

  • where are the new generation of protest singers today like we had in the 60's?

  • @mikestraw AS MANY HAVE RECENTLY SEEN WE,RE COMING BACK. IT,LL JUST BE A LITTLE LONGER. EVEN ON-LINE PROTESTING IS A START. I KNOW THE MAN IS WATCHING/REALIZES HE,S TOO OUTNUMBERED. HE,LL STILL TRY,BUT IT,S ALL GOOD. NOW IT,S A WORLD-WIDE RECOGNITOIN,OF OUR PAST THAT THEY CAN,T DENY.

  • Tolle Frau!

  • this woman is millionaire.

  • She was just great!!

  • I just watched a documentary on Joan...it made me realise what an amazing talent she is and was and how strong a woman and a person she is/was to put herself and her personal interests second to her strong beliefs and to act upon them for the benefit of others. And she is still going strong...I am in awe.

  • @wendyworldly i'm with you on that. I just watched the doco too. fantastic person, beautiful voice and a good lookin lady! Love her!

  • Same old stuff...the only reason Joan can sing these songs, idealistic as they are, is due to some veteran serving and some taxpayer paying.

  • @Tipledan WHATS YOUR CLAIM TO FAME / GLORY?

  • @Tipledan these are still good songs. it doesn't mean she can't perform these songs anymore. ur lulz.

  • Her voice never fails, it just gets sweeter with age.

  • One of great songs of my youth -- and it's been well over 40 years since I first heard this song and we haven't learned yet. How sad is that?

  • Congratulations to the 70th. birthday and the best wishes for the future for Joan Baez.

I learned a lot by her songs and like the kind of her sound.

    The best wishes from Germany

  • Im only 12 and I can play this+ my 11 year old friend can even play BEATLES songs

  • I grow-up sing this song.... Joan why have they still not learnt!!!! Make love not war... Peace to all:)

  • yes, a very moving song... though it may also sound a little naive nowadays... Because, my friends, we should know that "they" don't have anything to learn... because they have already learned, they know very well the consequences of their acts.. and they carry them out, in spite of the young men's graves that follow as the song says... because "they" are ruthless and only care for their money empires... it's unfortunately as simple as that... songs may make us cry but can learn nothing to them!

  • I LOVE IT SO TRUE YET SO CALMING PEOPLE OF 15 DONT NORMALLY LIKE IT BUT I LOVE IT BIG BIG FAN

  • She made an excellent point during her introduction. History repeats itself, and those who do not learn the first time around suffer the consequences. The Iraqi War has become a second Vietnam, because the Govt. failed to learn the lesson the first time.

  • Really, when will we ever learn? perhaps the last one left standing will be able to tell us... too late!

  • superb song-just sad that it needed to be written in the first place-------

  • @noproblem53 I,M FEELING THAT!

  • this lady just gets better with age an inspiration to all women keep going joan we love you x

  • Peace is an illusion till CHRIST comes back!!

  • @abstract6219

Ummmm....yeah, because christians have caused so much peace in the world. In fact, religion in general has just brought so much kindness and happiness and not a bit of conflict or strife. Moron.

  • @rohanwotan2 DID YOU JUST INSULT MORONS? I KNOW! I CAN,T HELP MYSELF!

  • @61TUNER

No worries......things would all be a lot better if we all could learn to just take a joke. No exclusions there, I'm included in that. Best to you and yours.

  • @rohanwotan2 DITTO! OH I,M NOT ABOUT THE RELIGION THING. I,M ONLY SPIRITED,NOT SPIRITULA.SEEMS TO ME EVEN THE ATHEISTS.ARE LACKING.

  • @61TUNER

I have no idea what you are on about. I only communicate in English which requires complete thoughts expressed in complete sentences. Btw, pls use your caps lock key.

  • @rohanwotan2 DITTO MEANS TAKE CARE.MY WRISTS ARE TOO MESSED UP TO KEEP SHIFTING/I COMMUNICATE IN AMERICAN. GONNA KEEP USING CAPITAL LETTERS.GOT ON TIME,FOR THE MANS RULES.

  • @abstract6219 Unfortunately my friend, war is nessessary to keep the peace. What has happened to us when that is the only way? Religion and greed has caused more conflict than any other reason. We all want peace, health , and happiness, unfortunately cant see it happening. Take Care Eh?

  • @JaSamVashBog NAH! IT,S PAVED WITH ,EVERY RELIGIONIST,OF EVERY BELIEF!

  • @mr1168726 True. war is necessary until the ones fighting wake up and see they are wrong for killing other men who were told the same as you were. If you really want to fight for peace shoot the men that send you to war(on both sides of a conflict) not the ones sent.

  • @George6360 What I said was not actually my words. They were quoted by a couple of ancient Philosophers, who's names I cannot remember. When I read these words, it really made me think. I think I felt despair and sadness, because it was/is true. It is easy to say 'shoot those who gave the orders', but in reality, no-one will be first to do so.I dont know really what the answer is.Religion and greed will never go away. They are both (unfortunately), part of this terrible dilemma. Bye Mate.
