There's no explanation given. We're left to assume that after enough generations it's simply possible. ALTHOUGH, if you play the UPlay unlockable tomb, there's some thing that says his family wasn't really nobility, but that one of his ancestors killed a nobleman and stole his identity. He was in an assassin family who, i dunno, presumably was a poor southern one, but then he later adopted the identity of a nobleman and his descendents thought they were nobility, but kept passing on assassinry.

no, he has to be or else desmond could not connect with him. like in that cutscene when u get out of the animus 2.0 for the first time to train and u have a vision, Altair impregnated Maria and u were left on that top of that building with her. so apparently desmond can only trace back that gene that was passed through generation to generation of assassins. Therefore Ezio is a decendant. and the fact that he looks exactly like Altair.
