The Godfather also said that this drug business will "destroy us in years to come", and it did. Mafia members are ratting out their superiors because they are getting caught selling the stuff and facing long prison terms. Also, the mafia's political protection wont associate with them when it comes to drugs, Vito was right.

You should also look at the theme of betrayal from a not-so-technical point of view. Havana is in red purely for aesthetic reasons, not sure how you got to be bothered by that.
