This is not so much a how to video as it is ust a show off video. Very impressive though I wanna know hw to put them together lol This was no good. Love your work though :D
Thanks for telling us exactly how to actually MAKE this!!!! (sarcastic) Your work is nice, but you should do a tutorial on HOW TO make them! Super Job!!
hello ... you helped me greatly, has about two days that I try to learn how to make the triangle ... I got a doubt, after almost doubling by the end, is a time when there appears a square fold for the two parties form the triangle. that it doubles enter where? (I am Brazilian and I am using an online translator)
I don't remember exactly. I checked but I don't have any leftover pieces anywhere... I would estimate about 3 inches by 1.5 inches. You can use a piece of square origami paper for a template if you have one, then just fold it equally until you have the size of rectangle you want. (And then cut the rectangles out of course).
You make rows with the two points sticking up and then put the next row so a piece sits on one point of two pieces in the row below it. Like you would stack legos for stability. / \
does anyone know where I can find a book or on the internet instructions on how to make various figures like this? have done origami for years but never tried anything like this before.
Just so you know runescapeplofaggot, i bet you on your life couldnt do this if you tried you stupid jerk, Lots of people can do this, BUT it doesnt take that much time! your such a jerk so stop making hate comments and you get a life! JERK!
hi fishtank this is amazing is there any chance you could do a slowed down version similaur to the one made for the origami swan? its because im really tempted to do this but i dont know how many are in each ring and the assembly of the first level seems different to the swan. please reply thanks :)
You can get pre-cut paper "kits" so it's easier, but I prefer just to use printer paper since it's only abou 3$ for about 200 sheets or so. Just takes awhile to cut them all to size :P
It's called MODULAR origami, get off your high horse and appreciate the different forms of this cool art
"Modular origami, or unit origami, is a paperfolding technique which uses multiple sheets of paper to create a larger and more complex structure than would be feasible using single-piece origami techniques."
I never said the things you made were not good. They are very good, and I DO appreciate them.
And yes, I DO know what modular origami is. I make them myself. But you are not supposed to cut in real origami. I am just pointing that out.
By cutting, do you mean cutting large pieces of paper into smaller pieces of paper to work with, or do you mean cutting as a step of creating the actual finished product?
Even so, they ARE impressive. You seem to think I do not like them...
Sorry, I was just trying to point out that "origami" and "modular origami" are two different forms of folding paper, because I've done "pure origami" also which is no cutting no gluing just folding. But anyways by cutting I meant that I cut a large piece of paper into the smaller pieces to fold, you can fold the pieces without cutting but from the paper I had the pieces would be huge. You can do this also without gluing but I didn't want the pieces to pop out if bumped or dropped.
Theres 23 or 24 of them in a starting circle (or base). I glue them together... a single piece has two points, make sure they are facing out, then once its all together you have to (carefully) bend it into the next position so the points are facing up and the bottom of the base is flat. Good luck.
The first one I made I found a pattern (swan) online by googling, and then once I had figured out that I could make one, I decided to buy some books. The ones I have are 3D Origami and MORE 3D Origami. Good luck :D
I looked for paper :P I can't remember but I don't think I had enough (I bought colour packs and it had only four sheets of square black origami paper) And coloured printer paper is hard to come by where I live and pretty thick :)
How do you get the original circle? It wants to go one way because the folding of the individual pieces push outward but I tried that and it didn't look right. I can't really tell by your shots.
The tips stick out and you have to push them in and hold them for a flat bottom. At about :25 I'm holding it so they are sticking up. I glued the pieces together (so the two tips are out)and so the bottom was easier to make. Hope this helps :)
I think you can buy precut paper, or even kits that have all the paper and instructions for one model. Though I live in a small area so I have no choice but to cut my own from larger sheets (letter size printer paper)
KOOOLIO!!! my friend has the modular crane birdie thing, which he got from his eight grade friend, who got it from a lady at a festival, who took 4 days to make it. his is smaller than urs, though.

Omg, thanks so much for putting this video up Fishtank! I have been trying to make a penguin, and for the whole I was following the wrong instructions and it didn't work. I didn't know that you were suppose to slip the pieces on top of the other :P Now I understand how you make it.
instructions would be nice. i found this store that sold precut kits for modular swans, dragons etc, and your panda. but they have instructions in korean. i was lucky to find a video here on youtube for the swan, otherwise i wouldn't have been able to figure out how to assemble it. would you mind putting a video for assembling a dragon and your panda? and other cool thigns that you made? thanks.
I would love to, but I think it would be way too long a video. Most of the things on the internet I came across were also in Japanese or Korean so I had to buy some english books off of Amazon (search: 3D Origami). If you know the basic triangle that you need to make... its just a combination of putting them together. The panda is 24 pieces on every row. does it take u 6 days to do that? i made a peacock from 3D Origami which have over 1,200 pieces and i did it in 5 days. Not to mention that i spend over 5 hours each day though
The first one I made was a 500 piece swan and that took about 40 hours... this one I did casually over 6 days, but I did work on it a bit everyday, not to mention I had to mark out my own pieces of paper from regular size unlined since origami paper is hard to come by here, not to mention expensive :) If I made it smaller it probably only wouldn't have taken as long.
Fishtank, you should buy gift wrapping papers instead. though you would have to cut it and that would take about several hours, you can save a lot of money. i brought a 50sq feet of gold wrapping christmas paper that only cost less than 2 bucks since it was already passed that.
