beautiful interpretation...can I ask you what you use as material for the solos? do you use material related to the chords you play with the left? I'm trying to learn to play piano, as my objective is to play jazz piano...and your suggestions would be very useful, as you have a great lyric sense... really well done!
What a musical interpretation! I don't agree with his self criticism. The song is well balanced. "It shows that you and the piano are one" says my husband. And I agree. It was such an enjoyable and visually pedagogic expcerience: Variations in the improivations - so nice, so creative lovely harmonies.
If there are any more like this, we would gladly listen.
I've removed my previous comment because on second listening this rendition grew on me but I still agree with you that there are too many notes/runs in it. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I gave it 5 stars anyway and hope you didn't think I was rude before.
your who i inspire to play like. i watch your videos every day, your an amazing player who deserves recognition. world wide keep posting video man, you make my day.
You're right about Bill's version of course, but you play so well. However, your modal version took the biscuit for me tonight. Thanks for posting and I look forward to catching up with more of your other stuff at a later time. I do a bit of piano myself, but am only floundering around still in 'Jazz' etc., I come from the classics. Wish I could play like you.
thanks so much for the great playing and emotion 7notemode!
i can play the first 3 minutes of this piece, but can't quite figure out the 2nd half ... pls pls write out some sheet music for all those lower down on the league but wish to play just like u!
marjoriet, I keep promising myself that I will learn one of the transcription programs. Unfortunately, I haven't done it yet, but it is one of my goals. Thanks for your comment.
In your bio, you state you did not play professionally, because of your job. This is one reason I hate unbridled capitalism. I am a professional pianist, but don't have your level of talent. Talent like yours should be used. Do you play "Close Your Eyes?" For some reason, I thought of that song when I heard your style.
My wife just commented from the next room.."Who's that? It sounds great"!
Every time I hear you on the 300, I say that's it, I'm going to get one. I spent over an hour going between the 300 and the new Roland GX last night..the Yamaha is still the least compromise from the real deal I feel.
Anyway, just stopped by to say hi and say it sounds great. Talk to you soon.
Anyone, who is somewhat musical, knows, how tricky it is, to sing with free improvisations like 7notemode's. (You don't know, when to start and when to stop without destroying too many of his wonderful inventions, not to speak of the constantly changing rhythm and tempo.-) But they are also an enticing musical challenge ...
If I ruined them, forgive me! There is always the DELETE-key ... ;-) Cheers! Wolf (complete amateur with German accent ;-)
7notemode... I've always played on a normal acoustic piano but my piano has become to small for me. So I would like to buy a stage piano instead. I saw the cp300 on the web and I may buy it. But does the CP300 feel and sounds like a acoustic piano?
man you sound great on this video. Question, What should I do to get faster and accurate on my right hand, especially when i am trying to fast melodic lines? Please reply back
thats amazing, i am only 16, i have been playing since i was 7. I have played classical piano. Completed grade 8 piano. I purchased a mark lavine jazz theory book, read it, it was useful but could you recomend any books that are more focused on piano?
Brilliant- awaited this post, since you hinted at it. Porgy is the spare and starkly beautiful gift of George Gershwin's genius. The Bill Evans (& Jarrett) affinity is clear. The LH (@ +/-3:10&5:10) seems to want to tug things in the direction of OP or Tatum, interesting and unique. 2 thoughts: if a redux is done, how about using the acoustic GP?
Of Ellington's 1500+ pieces, one of his best, least recorded & also a Bill Evans favorite was Reflections In D, any chance you would do that?
I could tell you really enjoyed playing this. Great overall vibe. Strong points for me in this: overall dynamics, "bluesy" runs, inner voice movement, descending run at 3:12, whole tone run, chords at 3:31, 3:40, 5:22, 5:56, arpeggio at 5:15, segment at 5:51, anytime you hit a #11, uhmmm, I guess the whole dang thing was just great!

I think alot about why ballads are so damn difficult . I think it kinda requires the removal of self and all those attendant conciderations .

are you using any reverb here for the piano?
JazzySaxE 1 year ago
JazzySaxE, yes a little in the Ivory program. I don't remember what settings, though. 'Small Hall', I think.

@JazzySaxE But I love that piano I played it at the store. Do they sample grands? the piano sounds are amazing on it.
