  • beautiful interpretation...can I ask you what you use as material for the solos? do you use material related to the chords you play with the left? I'm trying to learn to play piano, as my objective is to play jazz piano...and your suggestions would be very useful, as you have a great lyric sense... really well done!

  • Beautiful voicings...

    You made my day!!

  • @lessthan427 Thanks so much!

  • So Beautiful! do you have sheet music for your arrangement?

  • @Israelitheater Sorry no sheets.

  • Love it...!

  • I think alot about why ballads are so damn difficult . I think it kinda requires the removal of self and all those attendant conciderations .

  • @paxwallacejazz Thanks. You are right about removing one's self. I try to dissapear, at least that is the goal for me.

  • love it!

  • What a musical interpretation! I don't agree with his self criticism. The song is well balanced. "It shows that you and the piano are one" says my husband. And I agree. It was such an enjoyable and visually pedagogic expcerience: Variations in the improivations - so nice, so creative lovely harmonies.

If there are any more like this, we would gladly listen.

  • I've removed my previous comment because on second listening this rendition grew on me but I still agree with you that there are too many notes/runs in it. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I gave it 5 stars anyway and hope you didn't think I was rude before.

  • You may find the modal version of Porgy I posted more to your liking.

  • are you using any reverb here for the piano?

  • JazzySaxE, yes a little in the Ivory program. I don't remember what settings, though. 'Small Hall', I think.

  • @JazzySaxE But I love that piano I played it at the store. Do they sample grands? the piano sounds are amazing on it.

  • Excellent! I love the improvisation and the tempo at which you play this song! This makes me want to learn I loves you porgy.

  • very nice:)

  • where did you find the transcription of "i loves you porgy"? thanks and congratulations

  • your who i inspire to play like. i watch your videos every day, your an amazing player who deserves recognition. world wide keep posting video man, you make my day.

  • @hannspree12345 *you're *aspire

  • you annoy me and make me so happy at the same time.

  • You're right about Bill's version of course, but you play so well. However, your modal version took the biscuit for me tonight. Thanks for posting and I look forward to catching up with more of your other stuff at a later time. I do a bit of piano myself, but am only floundering around still in 'Jazz' etc., I come from the classics. Wish I could play like you.

  • thanks so much for the great playing and emotion 7notemode!

i can play the first 3 minutes of this piece, but can't quite figure out the 2nd half ... pls pls write out some sheet music for all those lower down on the league but wish to play just like u!

  • marjoriet, I keep promising myself that I will learn one of the transcription programs. Unfortunately, I haven't done it yet, but it is one of my goals. Thanks for your comment.

  • i love this gershwin tune and you play it great..

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • how did you do the sound? it's not yamaha's? is it?

  • No, it's Ivory Steinway software piano.

  • Just curious. Do you have to buy the Ivory Steinway software piano? Or can it be downloaded from somewhere?

  • jkqman, you have to buy it. It is made by Synthogy.

  • can i use that on the yamaha CLP-240PE?

because i hate some tones from my piano.

some are fake. and this is real (A)

  • In your bio, you state you did not play professionally, because of your job. This is one reason I hate unbridled capitalism. I am a professional pianist, but don't have your level of talent. Talent like yours should be used. Do you play "Close Your Eyes?" For some reason, I thought of that song when I heard your style.

  • Wonderful!

  • Can you put midi from this into lets say guitar pro or sth similar so we could print it out as sheet music?

    You have great skill, man.

  • I second that request for a tutorial

  • I love this Gershwin.

T., you could do a tutorial with this one. It would be great.

  • I think you do this great T.

My wife just commented from the next room.."Who's that? It sounds great"!

Every time I hear you on the 300, I say that's it, I'm going to get one. I spent over an hour going between the 300 and the new Roland GX last night..the Yamaha is still the least compromise from the real deal I feel.

Anyway, just stopped by to say hi and say it sounds great. Talk to you soon.

  • JUST FOR FUN!

Anyone, who is somewhat musical, knows, how tricky it is, to sing with free improvisations like 7notemode's. (You don't know, when to start and when to stop without destroying too many of his wonderful inventions, not to speak of the constantly changing rhythm and tempo.-) But they are also an enticing musical challenge ...

If I ruined them, forgive me! There is always the DELETE-key ... ;-) Cheers! Wolf (complete amateur with German accent ;-)

  • Wonderful!

    Wolf/Japan

  • Great job!!!

  • I agree about the runs, they seem a bit formulaic also. I love the voicings that you used in the beginning, and the alternative chords.

  • You are playing wonderful. It seems so easy, like a butterfly. Thank you

  • i want you to give me your playing as a

    midi file. please.please...

  • amazing

  • Hi there! Your playing are incredible! Do you have sheet music for this version? If you have please send it to me. :) Thank you, greetings Oscar!

  • Great stuff. I'm about 4 leagues below this level. The concept of being able to improvise with this kind of fluidity and confidence amazes me!

  • 7notemode... I've always played on a normal acoustic piano but my piano has become to small for me. So I would like to buy a stage piano instead. I saw the cp300 on the web and I may buy it. But does the CP300 feel and sounds like a acoustic piano?

By the way: You play great!!!!!!

    Thanks

  • man you sound great on this video. Question, What should I do to get faster and accurate on my right hand, especially when i am trying to fast melodic lines? Please reply back

  • JJowell617, I sent you a PM.

  • What kind of interface are u using? Didn't notice too much latency. Sounds amazing by the way!!!

  • Orgnkey, I just use CO300 USB interface to Apple laptop using GarageBand, then I use iMovie.

  • Just amazing!

  • U r fantastic, were did you get the sheet music from, i would like to learn this piece

  • websurf, no sheet music. It is improvised.

  • thats amazing, i am only 16, i have been playing since i was 7. I have played classical piano. Completed grade 8 piano. I purchased a mark lavine jazz theory book, read it, it was useful but could you recomend any books that are more focused on piano?

  • websurfmark90, I'll send a PM.

  • I love your "I love your porgy"

  • Brilliant- awaited this post, since you hinted at it. Porgy is the spare and starkly beautiful gift of George Gershwin's genius. The Bill Evans (& Jarrett) affinity is clear. The LH (@ +/-3:10&5:10) seems to want to tug things in the direction of OP or Tatum, interesting and unique. 2 thoughts: if a redux is done, how about using the acoustic GP?

Of Ellington's 1500+ pieces, one of his best, least recorded & also a Bill Evans favorite was Reflections In D, any chance you would do that?

  • klavier1us, Reflections in D is a wonderful tune, unfortunately I have never played it. It's on my list of tunes to learn.

  • fantastick

  • lovely easy listening a lot of *****stars

  • Yeah!!! Inspired man! Love the subs and voicings, beautiful stuff! I'm gonna have a go at this one!

    5 stars!

  • The tune is melancholy, but you are definitely finding the sultry heat that's in there too. Beautiful.

  • I want to thank you guys for all the comments and encouragement.

  • ★★★★★

+1 on all Roger's comments. Inner motion was the highlight for me I think.

  • thats it! im selling my video camera....loved the voicings and creativity....

  • ha! hope you keep it and post more vid's! Thanks, jaaz88.

  • Excellent

  • Beautiful Version! Tremendous Technique as usual. Love the the Chords Changes. Beautiful surprise like as an example at 3:31. *****

  • I could tell you really enjoyed playing this. Great overall vibe. Strong points for me in this: overall dynamics, "bluesy" runs, inner voice movement, descending run at 3:12, whole tone run, chords at 3:31, 3:40, 5:22, 5:56, arpeggio at 5:15, segment at 5:51, anytime you hit a #11, uhmmm, I guess the whole dang thing was just great!

  • Simply amazing!
