A perfect way to end the series. Thank you Denis Leary for giving Rescue Me a great run. I still can't believe it's over and there won't be any new seasons or episodes. The show actually changed the way I think of life.
My grandpa tells me all the time it's not a job it's a life style and it's what your meant to do he was part of the fdny for over 30 years- Jimmy Boyle
i think the show ended perfectly, and was not disappointed for once with a show's ending. I'm glad they all didn't die, they overcame their battles with life, and the effects of 9/11, and didn't get beat by what happened that day.
TV will never be exactly like reality, so some people out there need to get over that. But i believe this show was wonderful, and touched the hearts of many. Thank you Dennis and Peter and the entire cast. I love you sheila you crazy bitch lol
And as it began, so it now ends. Thank you Mr. Tolan. Thank you Mr. Leary. thank you to everyone involved in Rescue Me for the best seven seasons of comedy and drama on TV in recent memory.
You will be missed, and watched on DVD for years to come.
Support you Local Fire Department, folks, and be safe.
@Bruno19138 yeah, i did notice he wasnt whore banging anymore. Although he was more of an asshole in season 7, still had a good handle on his life. Being an asshole is part of an officer's job. Otherwise the guys will not respect him as a Lieutenant. I would only hope he learned from his mistake with that tilted car job where he about got himself and everyone else killed. And on a personal level, I hope he gets a relationship with his estranged daughter again.
I guess the studio was pressured because of the 9/11 truth scenes in prior seasons so they told the writers to make Franco a prick in the last season. Did you notice that he was referred to as 'the crazy conspiracy guy' several times during the last season?...go figure.
@MattHunter2222 I think it comes down to the fact that Franco wanted to be an Lt. and Tommy didn't. Tommy was all about fighting fires and the rush from that - can you imagine him doing paperwork? I think he saw that Lou got to fight fires as an Lt. but also saw the bureaucracy side of his job. Tommy wanted to fight fire and that's it, I think.
Great speech! I, too, am sorry to see this series end. Kudos to all the actors! Great job honoring the first responders of 9/11, the FDNY & all first responders in general!
@nflannery59 because it's not about being in the fdny, it's about the adrenaline rush you get when you go into a burning building. for him, it's either fire, or booze
@Scope000 i knew. I was just being sarcastic. This is why Tommy never went to be a Lieutenant, Captain, Or Chief. This is why he settles for being senior crew member. Although the booze, he has pretty much written that off. Well hopefully he has. This right here shows that Tommy finally was able to put 9/11 behind him and realize why he became a Firefighter.
Heard this the other day on a radio show, had to share it... even though it's a TV show, you can tell this came from Leary's heart. Quite moving *snif*
Is he drunk? his patch is on the wrong arm.

Great show but the alcoholic thing got boring. He was fine but having every family member the same was poor.
Dennis Leary made a fantastic anti hero.
