As we all know, everyone in the war was xenophobic and racist against the enemy, that was the norm.

Some of the looney tunes anti Japanese sentiment is just as bad. So it is completely unfair to criticise this film for anti western sentiment.

Never, ever associate the medium with the message. If you watch a slasher movie made with real actors, you would not be justified in comparing it to all movies made with real actors. Likewise with Anime, message and medium are not linked.
