  • How many lumen you had to use for each led.

  • Each LED is a CREE XR-E which is good for 250 lumens at 1000mA. they run at about 800mA with the current system. I want put a controller in it at some stage so i get the full 1000mA and it wont be dependent on the voltage. My next project will use two MC-E leds which are effectively four XR-E leds each so if i run it at 2000mA, 13v (keeps voltage down so i can use cheaper batteries rather than running 1000mA and 26v) then i will have about 2000 lumens!

  • I'm gonna build something like that one of these days!

  • Make sure you heat sink the LEDs and use an LED controller for maximum performance. there are some sweet lithium ion batteries available but they can be very expensive. Running the LEDs in series is better as long as you have sufficient voltage. LED controllers usually need about 12v or more so it makes sense to run series as that keeps your current down
