It's how the motor works. It can pulse the motor in a way that it makes sound. There's programs out there that you can turn it into a synthesizer ^_^

It took me almost an hour of cursing you for playing a joke on me/creating a shrine to teh Algore/praying to the aforementioned shrine...

...before I plugged in the scanner. Power IS required.
