Coconut oil is very expensive. The very best sunscreen is aloe vera gel.
Cut a leaf, slice it open and scoop out the gel into a bowl. Rub the wet leafs all over your body. ALoow to dry. Then apply the gel directly to any area that will be exposed to the sun.
There simply isn't a better sun protection method. Oil is oil is oil. It tends to "heat up" when exposed to the sun. Aloe Vera Gel was created to provide protection for the skin and the entire body.
well I can see why 'nameless 212' decided to remain nameless with comments like that. I shared the experience I have had with organic coconut oil and have not burned since I have been using it. To even hint that I would be trying to put people in harms way shows that you are surely coming for a very sad and unhealthy place in your life. I wish you well and quick healing of your soul and heart.
nameless212, you're clearly ignorant or attempting to put people in harms way. Coconut oil is a natural repellent, it repels 20% of UV rays. Wearing nothing repels 0% UV rays. Math is great isn't it? As for typical sunscreens NOT being cancerous, you must be a Hobbit living in a hole in the ground to not know the truth. Here's a PARTIAL list of known carcinogenic chemical ingredients in nearly all sunscreens:
@creasyj21 That was my old account.... and excuse me? I'M putting people in harms way? Where I interned and now work, there are women who come in at least once a month because they believe coconut oil is a sunscreen. There are other girls who come in who use coconut oil to TAN. No, I am not the one living in a hole in the ground. I am the one in the room while these women are having Mohs surgery to remove the cancer from improper methods that DID, indeed, put them in harms way.
@creasyj21 And by the way, those chemicals are not in all sunscreens, and there are more organic brands. I suggest you do more research beyond Google because anybody could have pulled that up.
And I did NOT suggest wearing nothing. What I said was that when you put oil on your skin, you are exposing it to the sun. Coconut oil does NOT block UV rays, it encourages it.
I have yet to see any sunscreen-wearers come to my work with skin cancer. Not one time in 4 years that I have been here.
I get a large jar of organic, without added flavor, for about $8. It lasts me for months. I use it in the shower and out in the sun. :)

But don't you need to mix olive oil with water in order for it to be a moisturizer?

In fact, having used for some months vegetable oils for the skin, this summer I had to use very little industrial sunscreen cream !
Thanks for sharing,
