There was forbidden to teach a slave to read - now majority of Americans are semi illiterate and effectively enslaved already... but equality is the slogan now, so expect to be brought down to the majority's level. If they can't erase your knowledge they will make you too poor to fight back (in Asia, including Russia, they would just kill educated people).
Funny how the reason for the change was "security reasons". How many bloody times has that excuse been overused now? And they're still doing it! Everything happens for security reasons now. Gotta watch out for those terrorists and those criminals!
