  • instead of a war on poverty

we've got a war on drugs so the police can bother me

  • Hello, I'm Greg Solomon.

  • I love the sound of rain in the background :)

  • crickets are going crazy in the back ground

  • You opened my mind

  • "If you look at the right-hand side of the screen..."

*looks at right-hand side of the screen, sees "How Will You Look Old?" ad*

  • surely the pedantic quibblings you bring up pale in comparison to the fact that bono is active in charitable organizations and inspires others by his example.

  • Hello. I'm Greg Solomon.

  • Mr. Solomon,

A word of advice... DO NOT record a video outside when it is raining! It is quite annoying for people who are watching your video to hear the constant sound of rain falling while they are trying to listen to you talk.

  • It's static. Not rain. But I do agree with you.

  • Mr. Solomon-

you astound me with your intellect and clear thinking! We all need to be more like you. Please keep it up!

  • The Irish rock star in question is something of an arse, however when it comes to the richest forgiving debt I have little sympathy for the tax payer - given we (and I am mainly looking at the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan and Russia here) have screwed many times that out of the third world over the years, I suggest you read 'Confessions of an Economic Hit Man' by Geoffrey Perkins (a former NSA "economic hitman") to find out about the trillions that have been screwed from poorer coutnries.

  • Ha ha, I went and got a V8 because the man on the youtube told me to. I'm glad I followed his wise advice.

  • i agree! most rich people wouldnt cut off their finger to save 100 people but some poor people would

  • Good AV. Great morals, but it's not the world that's imperfect,it's mankind.

  • No such thing as a selfless act... Every good deed needs a reward.. Even if the reward simply is a good warm feeling inside your heart. So Forget about the illusion about noble acts. Just be happy that there is good publicity in doing good deeds..

  • namronette:

Its little racist bitches like you that give whole countries a bad name. I have no hard feelings against Australia ( one of my good friends is from Australia) or any other country. Just a few idiots like you.

  • Who is this rockstar that he keeps talking about in this video?

  • haha, BONO the singer from U2 the band ofcourse..

  • Boring...

  • This goes to namronette :

Greg is smarter than you will ever be. You know what I'm sick of? Non Americans who think all Americans are smug. Just because Greg is smarter than you and does not want another government giveaway to your country does not make him smug.

  • Hey muscleguy2929. Americans are not only smug they are dumb. The US does not give away anything to Australia. They gratefully accept the services of the SAS (that's Special Air Services to you, retard, which is sort of like Delta Force except fit, strong, smart, brave and resourceful) when they want some serious military work done. But how could you know that, when your poor little American mind has been turned to fudge by Foxtel and CNN?

  • you try and act so smart when your talking about your director's icon. But I love how you say its on the left hand side of the screen, its on the right bud.

  • Your comment Solomon is already a great contribution. Naturally that I am in agreement with You in some points like I desagree in others of your points; and the beings, so called humans, works this way under this so unperfected world. What I have understood from your exposition is that you have been focused in a rock star and his band but, happily, we have other stars that have been making a lot for the fight against poverty.

  • I lol'd

  • Wonderful piece of redneck nihilism.

  • there was recently a news item in uk where bono fro U2 and bob geldof were 'hounding' the G8 leaders in Germany over lack of comital to promises made just before 'live8'. as you said...I also see the hypocrisy and absurdism here. good video greg. ~ ezra

  • Cigar smoke is stinky. It is a symbol of smug thinking. I could tell from the beginning of your cigar-smoking video that you would be a redneck.

  • Sound like he want's too run for Miss America Contest.

  • you're like a wannabe for 60 mintues or something. its all good though

  • Why is it that people who are not very smart want to spend so much time expressing their opinions?

What you say in 15 minutes could be said in 1 minute by someone whose mind was better organised.

I could demolish your argument in no time but why bother?

Why don't you get a more useful hobby, like surfing or yoga or,for that matter, why not spend your time helping people less fortunate than yourself rather than blathering on?

I am so sick of smug Americans !

  • And I am sick of whinging Australians.

  • Hey FreeknNasty. How ya doin' mate?

Just want to correct you about the whingeing. I'm not whingeing, I'm laughing my butt off every "freaking" day as I watch your inept, fat, retarded military getting their butts kicked in Afghanistan and Iraq. Your economy is sufferring a bit, but you have a new growth industry in bodybags, coffins and stupid seppo flags to drape on them. You guys are an international joke and you're going down fat boy!

  • And I am am laughing my arse off that you are to stupid to do your homework and find out that I am also Australian.

And laughing even more at your retarded comments princess.

  • Terribly sorry old sport. I jumped to the hasty conclusion that anyone with a super lame name like "FreaknNasty" just HAD to be a seppo. I envisaged a fat loser with a beer gut and a "live to ride tattoo". Hey I'm probably right. Just got the address wrong.

You sound like a seppo lover, though, so perhaps you'd consider moving and raising the average Australian IQ. PS:"too stupid" not "to stupid". Unfortunate context for a spelling error, eh?

  • As opposed to someone with a girl's username who has no more witty response than to pick on a typo? Surely a sign of a high IQ there.

  • Don't you like girls? I do.

    Typo? Yeah right!

    Over and out seppo lover.

  • I don't like girls called George no.

And thanks for the subscription princess :)

  • Actually,I don't know your name,gender,or location,since you have blocked your info.

However, random one,has no one told you that on the internet no one knows you're a dog? Which, to spell it out, means that I may be male, female, called George or Priscilla,46 or 12, and you will never know. I CAN say that you're missing out with your "George" bias, because I know a few girls called George and I would happily do more than one of them. Not just bad at spelling, but oh so square!

  • Well here is a tip; You can look at someone's videos, general their intro video, and find out all that information. It's called common sense.

Unfortunately you don't have any videos so your just a typical whiner hiding behind your PC.

Now if your name isn't George and and your not 46 then you are a liar aren't you?

  • "you're" not "your".

  • Very mature Georgette :)

  • Ok. You're right. I'll come clean.

I am a 12 year old (spayed) male cat called Jane. I am confused about my sexuality.

I have been trying to fool you all.

I hope you noted I unsubscribed.

  • LOL You have a good sense of humour I will give you that :)

  • I agree about Bono, but giving in secret will not do more than "any" government program, and giving in secret is not necessary, you might want to tell your wife or something. The thing about left and right hand is nonsensical. You sound intelligent but the actual substance of your words is slight.

  • "the existing radical inequality is deeply tainted by how it accumulated through one historical process that was deeply pervaded by enslavement, colonialism, even genocide. Many are quick to point out that we cannot inherit our ancestor's sins. Indeed. But HOW then can we be entitled to THE FRUITS of these sins: to our huge inherited advantage in power and wealth over the rest of the world?"(Thomas Pogge).

  • Yoo right! Good reply.

  • You should read Thomas Pogges workings on world poverty: "Citizens of the rich countries may concede that we affluent should do more to help the poor. But most see this as a demand of humanity or charity - NOT as a demand of justice and certainly not as a moral duty imposed on us by the human rights of the poor."

  • this is the type of stuff you should talk about in your videos. not criticizing other youtube-ers

  • Also, the directors image is on the right. Just to let you know.

  • It took you over 2 minutes to say "I have a directors account thanks to my fans." You should learn to keep things concise, didn't they teach you that in school?

  • Very good point. I agree!

  • Very awesome! Truthful, compelling, and challenging! And using Biblical principles, I like that!

Just on the Bono bashing tho, I'm not saying I know how Bono spends his money, but do YOU know for sure that he's not using it to fight poverty without making a big deal of it? If he were truly giving with the attitude that you described, we wouldn't hear about it.

I apologise if you do actually know where Bono spends all his cash.

  • What poor countries need is industry. Not a $2 check from some good samaritan in the US. They need engineers, financial managers, stable government, property rights, educators - everything we take for granted. Then they can start to eradicate their own poverty.

  • As long as there are rich people in the world there will always be some one poorer.

  • I am in complete agreement. I can think of several other other public figures who excersize this same or similar hypocrisy.

  • Greg is a true sherlock holmes. I wonder if he was a military tactician or something..

  • why dont you just say who your talking about? everyone knows your talking about U2 and bono. you dont really know where hes comming from and its really none of your business. talk talk talk im so important blah blah blah. u have nothing to say and it scares you.

  • how bout you tell us something we didn't know?

  • hey you are right...well put !!!

  • BLAH BLAH, AN OLD MAN RAMBLES ON.

  • ...cont'd

Your criticism of the Irish rockband has no relevance. Its not hypocritical to speak out against third world debt whilst being wealthy and minimising your tax bill.

The individual you are referring to may not know any more than you or I when it comes to world poverty but the difference is that he has accomplished much more than your and I.

Your video is not about world poverty - it is about Bono.

  • Nobody is trying to eradicate poverty. People are trying to improve the lives of people who are less fortunate than you and your countrymen.

I could donate 100 dollars a month to a good cause or I could donate 100 dollars a month to the same cause and publicise my donations which will inspire others to donate also.

Helping people get out of poverty has nothing to do with attempting to be or appear noble or altruistic. Its just about helping people.

  • I like this one Greg, overall it seems pretty grounded.

btw, Dylan said - Don't follow leaders, "watch" the parking meters.

  • Maybe, just maybe, that Bono chap prefers to deal with his tax affairs abroad so he can afford give more to more nobel causes? Have you asked him? Nah! How he chooses to approach his personal taxation has nothing to do with his ability to support these kind of causes. Your arguments are mostly Ad Hominem, Sir.

  • Never is a word used only by those to ignorant or cynical to imagine the future. Thank goodness for people who didn't listen to those who said "never". That's not to say I don't agree with some of what you are saying about where we are today though. I just prefer the Gene Roddenberry outlook on the future.

  • "Put this on pause, go get yourself a beverage, come back and relax..." - Great. :)

  • Holy shit! We're all saving the world from the comfort of our own bedrooms...

  • too much noise!

  • Wow! Heck of a rainy day! B¬)

  • Greg, check out cherylshuman aka richlittlepoorgirl profile pages and please tell us what you think. On the richlittlepoorgirl account she appears to have created a vast number of accounts to subscribe to herself. Just interested in your commentary on this.

  • As much as I loved this new video, the only gripe is that you wouldnt just say 'Bono' and 'U2'. A lot easier to say than "Multi-Millionare Rock Star" and "rock band from Ireland", but anyways it's good someone realizes this.

  • Thanx 4 sharing your thoughts on the subject greg. And exposing U2 & drop the debt for the hypocrite frauds they really are.

  • Fag.

  • No doubt one of the hallmarks of a wise person is his/her ability to distinguish RIGHT from LEFT...

  • How petty of you.

Try reading the word "green" written in a different colour ink and tell me the colour of the ink instantly. The brain has problems with disambiguation, as you will see, he points to HIS left as the brain has difficulty in telling left from right when asked to see things from a reversed point of view.

  • 1) I agree Solomon's "brain has problems..."

    2) I agree Solomon's "brain has difficulty..."

    3) I agree Jarls is so freakin' dense that he'd have difficulty recognizing a satirical comment even if one of Greg's Boston Terriers bit him in the arse.

  • it is whatever you say it is

  • This dude talks and it puts me to sleep, he loves to suck on the brown wet dick. In there best interest youtubes, WTF

this guy on a boat his head is shaking right to left.

He rambles on and on speed up the talk dude.

  • Then why are you watching it? Don't like it, then don't watch. Simple as that.

  • Kma gay guy its OBVIOUS your in love with him ill say what i want pin head.

  • And you'd wish someone would make a tape like that for you to jerk off to. Anyways like I said, don't like it? then dont watch, and stop ya bitchin.

  • I found your commentary very interesting. What needs to be remembered though is that without "Celebrity" input we would see far less of what is actually happening. I am very proud the British Governent is taking a lead in making moves to eradicate third world debt. This is a subject close to my heart and I hope you will look at my video response.

  • Another great and informative video Greg. Cheers :)

  • You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

  • What do u do for a living?

  • Scatman dies of cancer.... lets not let it happen to some one as noble as you!

  • ** YFILMS WAS 'ERE **

  • This is an awesome vlog and thanks. Obviously you're talking about Bono and U2. I had no idea they had moved all their money to Amsterdam so that they can avoid paying their fair share of taxes. The hypocrisy is astonishing.

  • Bono is a fraud .

  • dude you suck, get off youtbe, go talk slow somewhere else

  • solomon becoming a bit of a "celebrity".The guinness sponsor cap,is your neck a problem as you nod so often?Bono may be good at some things and so-so at others,i like your take on it.You started with the cigar when you went with the poverty theme(tobacco growers live in not the most affluent circumstances ) shit put the thing out!!

  • I am concerned about the HISSING NOISE, .is it raining.??

  • He Greg, at 1.55 I put the video on pause, but what is the next step? Help me Greg, what is the next move. I am stuck.

  • lol

  • Why do you cover your eyes Greg?

  • Very good question! What is he hiding?

  • Exactly..right on point.

  • dude..smoking gives you cancer..(ding dong)

  • Greg - I agree with you mate. I'm sick of all these people standing up and saying 'PLEASE give your money to this and that' when they've already got millions upon millions, and on top of that they actually make more money from asking others to donate.

  • It is your simple fear of others appearing more "valuable" than you that keeps your highly critical videos coming. God forbid someone get more attention than you.

Everyone has an opinion and articulating an argument does not make one right.

  • amen, greggers. i'm so sick of silly boy 'bono' with his 'mister rock star' self. though i don't think you touched on the fact that the corrupt 'leaders' of these poor countries screw over their people and keep or otherwise misappropriate the funds we give at the expense of the citizens. damned corrupt bastards!

  • Warren Buffet donated billions of dollars and although that's a hefty sum, money does not solve anything. We have to change society, not give people money to fend for themselves.

  • You can't change society, society must change itself. 'Till then, the world will continue to remain the same.

  • The "tax evasion" reminds me of the famous Scottish actor who is wheeled out every election to promote chopping up Britain and making Scotland a seperate nation. He supports Scotland so admirably, that he got a US passport to avoid paying tax. In fact, most really big musicians and actors do it. It's only the "normal" people who can't afford to use offshore scams to avoid tax.

  • You make some good points. Especially regarding the hypocrisy of the wealthy and priviledged. However, if I am not mistaken one of Bono's chief goals is to eradicate AIDS in Africa - this IS an attainable goal and a good and noble one.

    Take care.

  • Greg, you are such a buzz kill!

  • That was funny, Forest Gump couldn't have said it better...and thats all I gots to say about that....you were pretty close! I don't know about your nobility, but Forest Gump would be proud!!!

  • true bono's a self righteous hypocritical gypo twat, U2 are definetly over rated aswell.

  • The reason Bono and others like him talk about what they're doing is so that other people can follow their example. Most of the people who complain about them are just upset about being made to face their own guilt.

  • You are exactly correct... and point out the obvious that almost everybody here is missing, including GregSolomon himself.

  • THought provoking as always

  • poor animals are the ones that starve to death

  • Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus Bono is Bogus

  • If I were starving, and someone offered me a sandwich...I would not give a damn whether or not he used fanfare or not.

  • Did Bono ever give anyone a sandwich? Did renetto?

  • Hi, Mr. Solomon, I noticed the Guinness logo on your cap. Did you ever vist the St James' Gate brewry?

Also I'm I've impressed by your knowledge of Irish Politics, considering you can quote an Irish Gov. Minister. A large number of Americans couldn't find this country on the map, (not that we are really worth finding)

I've always viewed 'Bono', as somthing of a phony. I would like to hear what you think of Bob Geldof, who has much less money.

  • Ignorant.

  • I wouldn't disagree with you, but I find him slightly more tolerable than Mr. Paul Hewson aka Bono.

  • bravo gregsolomon!

  • Why is poverty better helped by making it a truly altruistic deed? To lead by example, others will have to know about it.

For every tax point he evades he has at least 99.3% more leverage on fighting poverty. Perhaps this certain individual is spending that seraphatically?

You make a good case, but some of your arguments need some work.

    - What hasn't been doubted, hasn't been proven. -

  • So by outsourcing his income to avoid taxation he can better inspire Irish citizens to pay extra taxes to help end poverty? My ass.

  • i agree with the first part...and thats why bono should pay taxes too, to lead by example

  • The point also is that the Irish Government committed to spending 0.7% (Yes ZERO-POINT-SEVEN) on poverty.

If you do the math and calculate how much time and money Bono personally invests in that, I'd wager that it would be well above 0.7% of his income.

Why pay a government that doesn't keep its promises?

  • then we should probably let the computers govern us

    "for a perfect world"

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Two thumbs up

  • This was a nice piece of work Greg, and congrats on director account. I agree with you a long way here and find that kind of hypocrisy actually working against the noble cause. There is need for slogans, but the message should be told by somone with a little more integrity.

  • who are you, and why should we care?

  • 5 seconds of you smoking your cigar at the beginning of your video didn't make a great impression on me.

  • GREG FOR PREZ!!

  • He's not negative at all, just realistic.

  • Bono is watched because he is a "star". What he does will affect what poeple do that watch him. Hence, people will contribute more to helping starving people. GregSolomons "realism" is not very accurate.

  • Ohbutitispet

  • One of the best videos so far, I've always hated Bono

  • i think poverty will never be irradicated but for a different reason.

poverty would some how always work its way into the lives of peole. "poverty" now and "povert" 50 years from here could be completely different. they might class not owning a pc as a state of poverty.but dont kill the dream... if they stopped trying just think of the state the world would be in.

  • time is everything in todays society, time is money.. money is said to make the world go round, and frankly i think i just wasted my time watching this.

    lata

  • 100% acurate my man keep on these people , they need sorting out , great vidio

  • Some great points you made there, sir!

Also, I'd like to add that the "Irish rock star" in question is known for his extravagant, seemingly meaningless spending on buying himself things.

  • I don't always agree with you Greg. But, this time I have to agree with you 100%.your Best Video yet!

  • Checkmate.

  • Who is this AnaGurl that you speak of? Did someone delete her comment? I forgot to mention I really enjoy hearing from you on this subject matter. Also, I should have said I think poverty may very well be elminated. Hopefully, it will not be a result of people "blowing things up."

  • What do you mean by eliminating poverty by "blowing things up"???

  • Ask Renetto. Just joking. I am thinking of places like North Korea.

  • I seriously dont think North Korea is the source of world poverty. I think its more our ways of life as individuals .

  • I don't think it is the source but there are plenty of people in poverty there. My original point was that poverty could possibly be eliminated through world cooperation. But for places like N. Korea and Stalinist Russia, it was also reduced by the death of the citizens often by their own government's actions.

  • Yes, poverty will be eliminated through world cooporation . However, war is not a medium of cooporation. I'm no communist but and I hate to say this but, capitalism with all its benifits has still contributed to world poverty.

  • Take the transnational corps for example- dont you think it is somewhat unethical to charge women with children less than $4 a month to work at a sweat shop? Arnt the attributes of sweatshops- mental abuse, subjected to long hours, harsh and unsafe conditions- the same as those of poverty.

  • And to think capitalisms advocate America supports the TNCs...

I think that you're really nieve and someone that easily falls to propaganda. Analyse what you hear bro.

Oh and one more thing, though decreased a significantly there are still sweatshops in Capitalistic America.

  • War can sometimes be a medium to cooperation. Some of America's greatest allies were once sworn enemies and war adversaries. Today, the U.S. and its allies are in a very difficult position trying to do the right thing for the victims in this world without interfering too much. I think it is really very difficult predicament with no perfect solution.

  • America is not trying to "do the right thing for the victims in this world" She is securing its future at the cost of millions of lives. Take Iraq for example, the death toll is creeping up to 400 000. And Afghanistan, the United States gave power to the Taliban and who, destroyed the already war devastated country and now, they are giving themselves the image of liberators by trying to remove them.

  • This "predicament" was there aim. Think outside the square; ask yourself why they would want to do such a thing

  • I don't think America really has a collective intention. Yes, some Americans are only out for themselves and their heirs. But many Americans are very altruistic. For example, thousands joins the Peace Corps and give huge amounts to charity. I don't see any other wealthier countries doing substantially more when you aggregate private and governmental aid and charitable donations.

  • As for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, despite the horrors that were occurring in those countries, most Americans would have preferred the U.S. not invaded, especially retrospectively. And it does look particularly bad that Iraq has major oil reserves. And also there was apparently very bad intelligence either due to incompetence or treachery.

  • If you don't agree with U.S. actions, how would you address the actions of countries like N. Korea. The structure of the UN including its veto rules makes it basically ineffectual in assuring world security. The basic premise of government is to do the will of their people and that always means putting the agenda of their people first. This basic directive makes it very hard to develop optimum world policies.

  • My views are totally subjective man. But you have to ask yourself which country makes the most weapons? Which country is the only country who used a nuclear weapon against civilians during war?

Why does do countries have to be hypocrital?

If it were up to me there would be no such things as weapons.

  • My arguements are not against the general public its against the government and those who support the war.

There will always be more good than evil. Thats why nearly all people are against the war. The only reason they were pro of it was because they were lied to.

  • Yes,they were mislead. But as far as weapons, that relates back to the Cold War build-up. If theUSSR had not disintegrated, they would have just as many weapons. However, I do think the U.S. weapons capability does act as a deterrent to many evil doers in the world. Yes it would be great if there were no weapons of mass destruction but there are, and they are here to stay. In the world at present, there outlook is not so good for anyone.

  • This is the first video I've seen of yours that didn't make me want to punch the screen. In fact, I agree with all the points that you made. Bono is a hypocritical windbag and a worthy target of your ire. If all of your videos from this point have to be rants against individuals, then I hope you will choose your future victims this wisely.

  • The funny thing is, ZenArcher the fake guru is like the Bono of youtube, except without the fame, money, and teeth. ZenArcher tells people how to live their life, yet he is almost 50, admits to being on welfare for 7 years, and still lives with, and off, his mother. I guess thats all fine, but he should not be telling people how to live and giving advice. THAT is my problem with him, and the fact he lies a LOT.

  • I agree. I'm certainly no Zen Archer fan and his lie about the email was inexcusable. I feared however that Mr.Solomon was going to turn his youtube channel into a petty soapbox against popular youtubers. Starting with Renetto and Boh3m3 and then moving his way through the 'most subscribed' list. Hopefully this marks a sea change. If he's got nothing positive to say about anything accept his dogs, then at least he can take aim at those who truly deserve it.

  • Whether one is altruistic or humble is a separate issue from whether one wants to eliminate poverty. For example, many individuals may not have the personal resources to make much of a difference by themselves but collectively they might be able to do something substantial. Also, I don't agree that poverty cannot be eliminated. Just like some diseases have been eliminated, it is possible to eliminate poverty. I do agree we cannot eliminate accidents or crime.

  • Hi good post

  • I'm from ireland...everything he says is true!Bono is a chancer...and a hypocrit.Alot of people here are tired of his antics.I hope everyone doesn't think all irish people are like that. We're a tiny country, but we got a great record for charity, aid and peace-keeping.

  • If only 10% of the war budgets were spent on welfare, the 3rd planet from the sun would be a great place to live ...

  • Bono and Geldofs efforts managed to 'save' lives in the 80's with their "Band Aid" campaign. But the word "band aid" was very accurate for what it really was. A temporary patch up of a gaping wound, that contrary to popular belief won't be fixed by hordes of money from guilty westerners emptying their pockets for a couple of days during rock concerts. It just allows foreign corrupt governments to continue with their usual policy of lethargy, corruption, and disregard for life.

  • Yes the matrix is real!!! Morpheus!!! Now give me the red pill!!!

  • I agree with the content you presented. I subscribed to your account because I see your commentary as an additive to my own checks and balances of the social interractions of this world. But I cant wear a mask over my face when Im serving at the local soup kitchen or mowing an elderly persons lawn lol. If they say thankyou, fine if not I dont make it a big deal. Thanks Greg for bring some common sense to youtube.

  • Don't be silly, you know what he means. Of course you can't wear a mask, but at the same time you dont need tell everyone there hey this is my name and I am a great person! It also means not brag about how good you are on places like youtube. So called christians should no Christ said do charity with no fanfare and quietly!

  • true. :)

  • there is one advantage about sharing th information of the donations one has made. I feel others will be inspired to make donations themselves in some cases after hearing about the donaton you have made. And what you said is correct, demanding higher powers that they fulfill their promise is less effective than donating some money yourself.

  • Good one

  • I agree Bono is a bit of a hypocrit.

  • 2:55 AM ct

  • WOW DUDE. You are the voice!

  • wow, I agree about everything you said in this one!
