Hell most of the former offenders were my friends and some still are . You never want to mistreat an inmate or offender because you could see them on the street and if you can't back it up outside that prison , you are screwed . Funny thing about being county is my dealings with the female offenders . I am a CO also...here is NYS....I can't agree 100% but I can tell you...so many of my inmates are sneaky fucks...one told me the other day that he was trying to be good and turn over a new leaf...not even 4 minutes later he stuck his cellmate...we had to extract him forcefully and two officers were inured...

Im a state C/O in NY and all we carry inside the facility are batons and cuffs! Talk about being outdated lol! We still use the .38 as well but we're in the process of switching over to the Glock .9mm
You guys don't use any pepper spray? Just batons and cuffs? So are you using the MEB, or side handle? We have a lot of shit we are using over here.. We use the Mini 14 with the .223 round.. We also use the 40MM with rubber bullets.. And the pepper ball shots also.. We have CN gas.. Our pepper spray is pretty strong.. Works well too.. I think CDCR is the process of changing over to the Glock also.. That's why I'm thinking about buying one for myself.
Nope no pepper spray lol! New York State is extremely liberal and they really limit our defenses. The batons we use are just standard wooden batons. I will say though that you guys have a tougher job in that the inmate to officer ratio in CA is much higher and your gang situation is much worse than ours. I have a lot of respect for all C/O's but I think you guys in CA deserve the most.

in new orleans our c/o's can only carry oc spray, MEBS, tasers, cuffs, flashlight, and gloves on their belts. basically anything but the gun and clips....but our commissioned officers carry beretta px4 storms (.9) outside the prison......

its not uncommon for COs to stage fights between inmates for entertainments, a lot of the times they would place bets and video tape them. when the fights get out of control they sometimes kill or injure the inmates

ive been a state correctional officer for three years and it is a very interesting carrer. the bad thing is corrections have a high turn-over rate so were always training new officers.

Yeah, I've always thought that the best way to reform criminals before returning them to free society is to lock them in a cage and poke them with a stick for a couple of years...

Fuck Inmates. As a C/O myself I can say I've never met an inmate who was even worth their weight in shit. They are there for a reason and most people don't think about it like that. Prisoners shouldn't be housed, they should just be put to death and save the taxpayers some money.

A brutal and savage existence for the keeper and the kept. In some States officers are well compensated. In many others they're paid little more than a cashier in WallMart. Pushed from three sides, exploding populations in some facilities competing now with private corrections and yet other facilities employing early release programs. This may continue for some time.

I am a CO also...here is NYS....I can't agree 100% but I can tell you...so many of my inmates are sneaky fucks...one told me the other day that he was trying to be good and turn over a new leaf...not even 4 minutes later he stuck his cellmate...we had to extract him forcefully and two officers were inured...

As far as I know, he had an inmate out during lock down.. I guess he was trying to have him talk to the other inmates and calm them down or some shit.. I don't really know the facts, that's all I heard.. It's still a shitty situation, and he didn't deserve to die.

It's still used (or supposed to be anyway) as an execution chamber. It no longer dispenses the gas mixture as that's cruel and unusual punishment *cough*. It was converted for conducting lethal injection executions.

Im a state C/O in NY and all we carry inside the facility are batons and cuffs! Talk about being outdated lol! We still use the .38 as well but we're in the process of switching over to the Glock .9mm

You guys don't use any pepper spray? Just batons and cuffs? So are you using the MEB, or side handle? We have a lot of shit we are using over here.. We use the Mini 14 with the .223 round.. We also use the 40MM with rubber bullets.. And the pepper ball shots also.. We have CN gas.. Our pepper spray is pretty strong.. Works well too.. I think CDCR is the process of changing over to the Glock also.. That's why I'm thinking about buying one for myself.

Nope no pepper spray lol! New York State is extremely liberal and they really limit our defenses. The batons we use are just standard wooden batons. I will say though that you guys have a tougher job in that the inmate to officer ratio in CA is much higher and your gang situation is much worse than ours. I have a lot of respect for all C/O's but I think you guys in CA deserve the most.

Yeah, it's like 100 to 1 ratio.. and the gangs make it worse too.. Thanks for the props though.. Everyone doesn't give enough credit to C/O's.. In CA there are a lot of us, but in other states it seems there aren't as many.. So luckily we have a decent union.. Pretty damn huge I guess..

in new orleans our c/o's can only carry oc spray, MEBS, tasers, cuffs, flashlight, and gloves on their belts. basically anything but the gun and clips....but our commissioned officers carry beretta px4 storms (.9) outside the prison......

its not uncommon for COs to stage fights between inmates for entertainments, a lot of the times they would place bets and video tape them. when the fights get out of control they sometimes kill or injure the inmates

I'm a CO and we've got a tough job but it's fun. Great video it really shows what it can be like. I've never seen so much blood and teeth in my life working this job. We are not over paid babysitters. But some people I know are making over 100k a year with overtime. Hopefully I don't jinx myself but I haven't gotten a milkshake yet. WSDOC

I spent a year over seas getting shot at and to be honest there isnt much difference. When you least expect it blam the guy beside you gets stabbed 15 times in the chest, blood sprays on you. Ran down the walk, just in time to see 2 arian nation run outta a cell holding a make shift machete. They had cut the head off of an inmate who snitched. Blood was everywhere. my 6'9" son is starting the academy in california, and i'm scared to death for him. i think he might be an even "bigger" target for the asses that have nothing else with their lives now than prove how tough they are. and they are tough, no doubt. i'm looking into the juvi correc. too. i guess, instead of complaining about how the system let's people down, why not try to work with it. at least we're trying. no one is making us do the dirty work
