He's right, Picard just kept taking it. Of course, it was because he was just that together, and yet Sisko didn't seem like a screaming maniac, either. It was more of a "Fine. You wanted me to hit you, I hit you. Now you're on the floor. I enjoyed that, and I'd do it again." And I'd waited years to see it.
@MrSinister1979 Q said Sisko is easier to provoke, so no point visiting him again is there? Picard is more of a challenge, hence the many visits. And the Enterprise is much more worthy of a visit than DS9.
@Trenchman97 But this shows that not all star fleet officers are cut from the same cloth. It gives a newer/human feel to the show. A way for the watchers to grow attached to the character more so then the other captains. =-)
@Trenchman97 Also, TNG was about the human drive to explore, learn, and adapt to new situations that human kind has never seen; the better side, more kinder side of humanity. Yet this show "DS9" is more of a tale of redemption, and rebuilding. Defense, pride, survival in the eyes of trying times. This show took a darker path, yet kept true to many aspects of TNG. Therefore it should never be placed as "less then" anything my friend. =-)
@MrInfidelicLord I understand your point. Picard is still my favorite in my opinion though. I guess Ive never seen DS9 enough to understand what it is. Isnt it about a war with the dominion or something?
@Trenchman97 The War with the Dominion didn't start till the later seasons. The first season was mostly about Sisko's hate of Picard; for the death of his at Wolf 359. I think that the scene where the two captains meet is a scene i'll never forget. You should check it out. The show then turned into an uneasy yet exciting religious war with the near by planet bayjor. You should watch it. A lot of the episodes from TNG are continued in DS9. They go hand and hand.
Sisko should never have been added to Star Trek. Picard was the only real character in Roddenberry's sense. He was the best character after Kirk. He shows how humans evolved morally in 200 years. To show a postmodern survivalist in just 10 years of the saga time, is ridiculous.
@mrteemumilto Those of us who prefer our art to deconstruct any so-called utopian future wholeheartedly disagree with you. The point of Sisko is that Picard is NOT the norm of society, and we need to sometimes be reminded that in the end, we cannot get too full of ourselves and "how far we've come".
@Dajbman22 On the contrary, sir. Roddenberry wanted to show how far humans can go in a positive sense. That's my cup of tee. They shouldn't call anything else Star Trek. Do you understand? The whole point in my comments is to show that the post-Roddenberry staff missed Roddenberry's point, tried to cloth up the actors and sets and failed.
@mrteemumilto To be honest, Roddenberry really wasn't actually involved with Star Trek after the middle of the third season. He was credited as executive producer, but all he really did was advise. I'd be willing to bet he'd not have green-lighted the Borg who could not be reasoned with. The post-R staff was free to explore a less lighthearted, optimistic version of the future where sometimes you had to make hard choices and right choice isn't the moral one (In The Pale Moonlight).
@Linuxgeek3124 yes, and Picard himself came from a patriarchal family. You remember when his brother attacked him and he released the trauma of Locutus? Even so, in that society, he succeeded in doing the right thing. The staff didn't even try, they wanted to think anti-social.
@mrteemumilto No, no, no. That was to show how tough Picard really was. Picard was more of a chess-master to Kirk's fencer so to speak, and got a lot of flack for not being hands-on and physical. His bout with the Borg was meant to show that Picard was not at all soft. Sisko didn't have that luxury. He was all that stood between the Dominion and the Alpha Quadrant. He didn't get to warping to a starbase for reinforcements. DS9 was the starbase. They were the reinforcements.
@mrteemumilto My apologies for any confusion. I misquoted. That should have said I was agreeing with Dajbman22. You can't fault Sisko for his actions or attitude. Picard is the explorer portion of Starfleet while Sisko is the militaristic portion. He thinks like the captain of a warship (and the Defiant shows that he can build one), while Picard thinks like an explorer and a diplomat. As for Roddenberry's canon, I've never subscribed to that. Trek is Trek. DS9 is my favorite Trek.
@mrteemumilto I must agree with Dajbman22. Picard was was an excellent character, but he was an idealist and his posting as a captain of an exploration ship showed that. Sisko is the juxtaposition of Picard. He's in command of an outpost near the boarder of two hostile nations and light years away from Federation back up. He does what must be done for the survival of mankind. TNG showed how far we've come, and DS9 showed how far we could be pushed. The Siege of AR-558 said it best.
@lagkat40 Well, no, but that's not the point. The point is that it's a rather silly and spammy thing to post on a Star Trek vid. I don't post Star Trek comments on pony videos, nor on mr. Bean or Golden Girls videos. Likewise, I don't see much reason why a Star Trek video should be posted full of My Little Pony comments, regardless of my personal opinion of that show.
There are some pretty angry people out there. It's sad when people get bent out of shape over a fictional universe and write disparaging things about fictional characters. Yes...fictional.
@bpfoley89 No duh, in Trials and Tribbil-ations he practically breaks time travel protocol to see him, just to say how much he admires the man. Awesome episode by the way.
@WotanKrieger You do know modern humans originally evolved in Africa, right? Or does this vacuous miasma of carnality engender too grievous a myopia to be cognizant of reality?

that chimp you speak of was a university professor for over 30 years, performed on stage as a baritone singer, has been in movies, and starred in one of the most iconic tv series of all time. What have YOU done, you racist little hater? It sucks right? A black guy who has accomplished 100 times more than you, a white American, ever will. lol, what a broken down loser you are. No wonder you hate on him.
@AlexBrasil123123 haha He's a fool. so are you troll-boy paper-mache star ships and BS leftwing crap, get a life monkeyboy he's some liberal jew-whiteboy's pet. Negro boy get's off shoving white man around. He's an insect compared to the Q character monkey-boy.....
you haven't answered my question. what have YOU done?? so far all you have done is confirm the fact that you are just a racist hater. you bring up politics now by calling me "leftwing"? lol, for a person who watches star trek, your mind is pretty saturated with antiquated ignorance and racism. people who waste time arguing over political parties and views are mindless, brainwashed fools that don't realize that BOTH parties are corrupt and both don't give a shit about you or me.
The creepy thing about Q is that he has this baby face that can look so innocent. And yet, look at his face when he says "All gone". Just menacing with power.
@yakinani Dumbo? Are you for real? Just because Sisko responded differently doesn't mean he's dumb... it just means he handles things differently. How would you respond after you've been punched in the face more than once? Q never hit Picard. Have you seen the entire series? Omnipotent or not, Q NEVER comes back to bother Sisko either.
@TaintedMustard I wouldn't say that....but you wouldn't get the same dynamic at all, no. Picard would go along with it and try to outwit Q, whereas Sisko's just like "I have neither the time nor the patience for this shit. *FALCON PUNCH*"
@psychicllamakiller Well, the dynamic with Picard had much less to do with him trying to outwit Q than it did with Picard staying true to his principles in the face of Q's influence. Q is objectively superior in intellect and physical ability; outwitting him is futile and hitting him is a pointless display of machismo. A man losing his temper and punching someone is not compelling.
That's not to say I dislike Sisko; I just don't think he's a good foil for Q.
@TaintedMustard Fair enough, I was just saying Picard's the debating type and Sisko's more the "get-the-fuck-out-of-my-way-I-have-a-war-to-win-and-lives-to-save" type.
I'm probably just a little biased because DS9 is the only Star Trek series i like: I couldn't stand the other four XD
@TaintedMustard that may be true, and I respect your opinion, but consider that Q is like a curious kid poking at something to see what happens. In this case he got a rather quick reaction and realized that Sisko was not willing to play along. To say he was TOTALLY uncompelling is dismissive and I'm not sure that's right. @psychicllamakiller says a lot of what I would say so I won't be redundant and repeat it.
@numobudo It's kinda like comparing what Kirk would do in a similar situation. Obviously Picard never hit Q because that wasn't the guy he was. However, if Q was pestering Kirk like that, he would've bashed his brains after the first punch. I think Kirk and Sisko are very similar in that regard. I still take Kirk any day of the week though.
@TJSerabian I agree with you. Keeping in mind that this is fiction and someone wrote the script, I think it was of way of introducing the Q character, who had been in the other series, and then getting getting him out of the story line because there really was no need for him. I get annoyed when people try to portray or imply that Sisko is some kind of impulsive dolt with no principles or reasoning abilities and that Picard is better or smarter. Starfleet captains won't be the same.
@numobudo The reason the episode was made was to get TNG fans who hadn't already started watching the DS9 to come on over and give it a shot. How successful it was depends largely on how many fans stuck around.
@numobudo Once you get a taste of Sisko's motherfucking pimp hand you stay the hell away. Hell Borg only attacked earth again because he was on the otherside of the Galaxy during the movie.
Only an idiot would attack an omnipotent being. Especially considering that Sisko knew Qs history as claiming to be a judge of humanity threatening to destroy us for our barbarity. Way to go Sisko you could have got the entire human race wiped out with your primitive and barbaric response to Q's taunting.
Sisko is a moron and every episode of DS9 proves it even further.
Of course I guess its technically the writers that are the morons.
Ahh Sisko, when he's not punching omnipotent beings, using bioweapons on unarmed population or orchestrating the assassination of foreign officials, he spends his time perfecting Cajun cooking. I always liked him more than Picard
What I love about Q/Discord is that seeing as how Q is an omnipotent being, he actually does have the power to transform into Discord and enter another reality (MLP).
So, it's really Q the whole time. Even on a different show.
@AisuSeijin We're actually working on a means to weed out the furfags. We tried running a hot wire through blood samples, but then I realized I had mixed up furries with the Thing.
@therealonethistime He's the bad guy from the season 2 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Like Q, he's a reality warper and he's played by John DeLancie. They also have similar personalities, so it's really no wonder why fans say they're the same person.
Maybe Sisko finally saw Q as the person / entity responsible for introducing the Borg to the Alpha Quadrant ( & leading to the battle of Wolf 359 w / his wife was killed ) & took out a little of his frustration, etc., on him.
How wonderfully contradicting that an entity meant to be infinitely superior to humanity, was thought up by the people behind Star Trek who are themselves human.
You hit me; Picard never hit me

And the universe is deafened by innumerable species suddenly exploding with cheers. Who says sound can't travel through space?
Up next, Sisko vs. The Master. Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen!

@ohsnapitsme59 Only if your a man.
mlee2001 3 months ago
The creepy thing about Q is that he has this baby face that can look so innocent. And yet, look at his face when he says "All gone". Just menacing with power.
ohsnapitsme59 4 months ago
Q is right, picard understood the game, but this guy is a dumbo that Q can pick apart
yakinani 4 months ago
@yakinani Dumbo? Are you for real? Just because Sisko responded differently doesn't mean he's dumb... it just means he handles things differently. How would you respond after you've been punched in the face more than once? Q never hit Picard. Have you seen the entire series? Omnipotent or not, Q NEVER comes back to bother Sisko either.
numobudo 4 months ago 12
@numobudo Mainly because Sisko was TOTALLY uncompelling as a foil for Q. Picard was not.
TaintedMustard 3 months ago
@TaintedMustard I wouldn't say that....but you wouldn't get the same dynamic at all, no. Picard would go along with it and try to outwit Q, whereas Sisko's just like "I have neither the time nor the patience for this shit. *FALCON PUNCH*"
psychicllamakiller 2 months ago
@psychicllamakiller Well, the dynamic with Picard had much less to do with him trying to outwit Q than it did with Picard staying true to his principles in the face of Q's influence. Q is objectively superior in intellect and physical ability; outwitting him is futile and hitting him is a pointless display of machismo. A man losing his temper and punching someone is not compelling.
That's not to say I dislike Sisko; I just don't think he's a good foil for Q.
TaintedMustard 2 months ago
@TaintedMustard Fair enough, I was just saying Picard's the debating type and Sisko's more the "get-the-fuck-out-of-my-way-I-have-a-war-to-win-and-lives-to-save" type.
I'm probably just a little biased because DS9 is the only Star Trek series i like: I couldn't stand the other four XD
psychicllamakiller 2 months ago
@TaintedMustard that may be true, and I respect your opinion, but consider that Q is like a curious kid poking at something to see what happens. In this case he got a rather quick reaction and realized that Sisko was not willing to play along. To say he was TOTALLY uncompelling is dismissive and I'm not sure that's right. @psychicllamakiller says a lot of what I would say so I won't be redundant and repeat it.
numobudo 2 months ago
@numobudo It's kinda like comparing what Kirk would do in a similar situation. Obviously Picard never hit Q because that wasn't the guy he was. However, if Q was pestering Kirk like that, he would've bashed his brains after the first punch. I think Kirk and Sisko are very similar in that regard. I still take Kirk any day of the week though.
TJSerabian 2 months ago
@TJSerabian I agree with you. Keeping in mind that this is fiction and someone wrote the script, I think it was of way of introducing the Q character, who had been in the other series, and then getting getting him out of the story line because there really was no need for him. I get annoyed when people try to portray or imply that Sisko is some kind of impulsive dolt with no principles or reasoning abilities and that Picard is better or smarter. Starfleet captains won't be the same.
numobudo 2 months ago
@numobudo The reason the episode was made was to get TNG fans who hadn't already started watching the DS9 to come on over and give it a shot. How successful it was depends largely on how many fans stuck around.
FNGLHR 2 months ago
@TJSerabian Understandable, Sisko is a man's Man. Kirk is a man's Man's MAN. He kinda beats him in that regard..
FNGLHR 2 months ago
@numobudo Once you get a taste of Sisko's motherfucking pimp hand you stay the hell away. Hell Borg only attacked earth again because he was on the otherside of the Galaxy during the movie.
FNGLHR 2 months ago
@numobudo
Of course I guess its technically the writers that are the morons.

joe12544 4 months ago
Ahh Sisko, when he's not punching omnipotent beings, using bioweapons on unarmed population or orchestrating the assassination of foreign officials, he spends his time perfecting Cajun cooking. I always liked him more than Picard
TheRhinehart86 5 months ago
What I love about Q/Discord is that seeing as how Q is an omnipotent being, he actually does have the power to transform into Discord and enter another reality (MLP).
So, it's really Q the whole time. Even on a different show.

therealonethistime 2 months ago
@therealonethistime He's the bad guy from the season 2 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Like Q, he's a reality warper and he's played by John DeLancie. They also have similar personalities, so it's really no wonder why fans say they're the same person.

Maybe Sisko finally saw Q as the person / entity responsible for introducing the Borg to the Alpha Quadrant ( & leading to the battle of Wolf 359 w / his wife was killed ) & took out a little of his frustration, etc., on him.
