The man is a Bodybuilder, which means when he does Partial's, he keeps the pressure on and forcing the muscle to work double as hard. All I know is Kevin Levrone.... Remember that motherfucker? Did full reps at 405 on incline bench and was not only one of the demonstrably strongest bodybuilders but had the finest physique. This fetish with half-reps and cheat shit is a disease that needs to die.
Partial reps are actually better for your joints. Watch jay cutler do chest, he does partials (so did ronnie). Read any peer reviewed article and you'll see there is no difference in muscle mass or strength gained among groups who did full or partial ROM. Unless you're working out to be a competitive power lifter who needs a full ROM for his or her lift to count in competition, I really don't think there is any reason to do full ROM if you're just looking to improve your body's appearance
@e36ftw Of course there is. "Stopping just short of lockout" is drastically different than partials. Aside from the last rep, these were all HALF reps, the weight never moved through the sticking point until the last, ASSISTED rep. Stopping short of lockout (arms only PARITALLY bent) still moves the weight through the entire range of motion, only avoiding the final hyper-extension of the joint. HALF-reps, that never challenge the sticking point of the rep only PARTIALLY work the muscle.
training for years at Bev Francis' gym, I've seen alot of iron bulls, myself included. Strongest man I've ever seen was a 200 pounder who used to load 455 and do 10-12 full flat bench reps. What he'd do is separate the plates from each other about an inch or two so if his reps weren't perfectly under control, the plates would jingle! His sets would last about a minute and the plates didn't make a sound! To bench with that type of ontrol, your body can't have not even one weak link!
I think these partial range reps that people "say" keep tension on the muscle, are highly overrated. Full ROM reps are just as effective (and perhaps more so) in the developement of size, shape, and strength.

ok so i think its impressive that in the incline you can do that, BUT i dont think those are true reps, post a video of full extentions and slower show its controlled, i can do about 320 on the incline and i only get about 3 reps, but there controlled and completly up and down, and im about HALF his size

When you do PARTIALS, your simply Keeping stress/tension on the muscle throughout the whole movement, which is very good for building muscle. With chest, soo many people think that its all just " bring bar down to chest and push up"........yes, it is that BUT its also your grip on the bar, using good form and keeping constant stress/tension on the muscle, just like training any other muscle group.

Partial reps are actually better for your joints. Watch jay cutler do chest, he does partials (so did ronnie).
