  • where is that?

  • @SFfisherman Hermosa Beach is just a few miles south of LAX airport, 25 miles south west of downtown Los Angeles California.

  • you can catch anything with live sardines like thresher sharks, leopard sharks, halibut, guitar fish, also some nice size rockfish

  • ok for the dummies that dont know how to catch these. He uses a rig called sabiki. A sabiki is a line with multiple small hooks on it with small silvery skin on them so u dont need to put bait

  • @surferboy347808 Thanks for the comment.

  • @readda no probs bro

  • Its fun fishing for sardines and mackeral especially when theres like 5 on each hooks

  • what do you use for bait to catch the sardines??

  • @dunklefishing - Use the Bait Rigs, like the Sabiki Brand of Bait Rig set up and with the small hooks and small white or silver material near hook you do not need any bait. If you would like a to add something, use any fish or squid that you find on the pier. The rigs work without adding any bait, the sardines are attracted to the movement and flash.

  • @dunklefishing sabiki is already an official vocabulary in the fishing industry. its a japanese word for small lures which immitate shrimps and small fishes or even worms swimming in the water which sardines, herrings and anchovies eat.

  • Way bait do you use to catch the sardines/anchovies??

  • do you fillet the sardines then hook or do you use any other scents for fishing im new to pier fishing and go to redondo pier and long beach excuse my ignorance

  • @chud89 - Sardine must be alive. Do not fillet. You will need to have a second slightly heavier rod with 15 lb test line. Fish with the sardines live to catch even bigger fish near the pier. You can free line with a 2 to 3 foot long 20-30 lb mono leader and let the sardine swim around near the surface. Or use weight like a sliding sinker (1-2 oz ) on same 20-30 lb leader to keep bait near bottom, this allows bait to swim around near the bottom.

  • @readda O I see!! im just surprised you can get bigger fish than a sardine near the pier thats new to me i thought the sardine was the bigest thing you can get by the pier but i guessed very wrong and thanks for the 2 rod test tip.

  • @chud89 - Use the sardine to catch bigger fish near the pier. Live bait fishing is great fun. You will need two rods. One lighter rod with 8-10 lb test and bait rig set up to catch sardines. Second rod should be 15-17 lb test, with a 2-3 foot 20-25 lb test leader, and a hook to match the sardine size (say 1, 2, or 4). This should be a medium rod that you will use to hook sardines with (sideways through nostrils) and fish live bait style. Allow bait to swim freely or use sliding sinker.

  • @readda How often do y'all catch the bigger fish with live bait? I've caught a halibut once with live bait, but that was years ago.

  • sardines are the best bait there is . i cath alot of sand sharks cudas and leapor shark down newport beach

  • can you use blood worms?

  • i would've just fried those and eaten them...

  • if you dont mind but what kind of bait do you use to catch those sardines or ancovies

  • Use the Bait Rigs by Sabiki or other companies. Try the smallest one you can find (size 8, 10, 12 hooks). They don't last long because they are smaller hooks and lighter line, but they catch the most sardines, anchovies, or smelt. What ever is under the pier when you go can be caught.

  • What size hook works BEST. Which one were you using? Thanks!

  • your bait looks like an anchovy.

  • is that salt water? or just water from the cleaning station over there?

  • I believe it is saltwater, most bait fishermen want their bait to stay alive and lively. Freshwater is not good for sardines.

  • what are those for?

  • live sardines work as good bait for halibut, salmon and stripers.

    if not, fry 'em up!

  • sweet! halibuts off a pier!? nice!

  • Salmon off Hermosa or Stripers? Since when ? Halibut maybe...but I've never heard anything about Salmon or Stripers ! Maybe closer to S.F.

  • yeah, youre right...
