  • 3 days ago I did a backflip off of a block and onto a mat. I landed on my ankle weird and I heard it pop and it still hurts. I've been telling my mom, but she just says " you'll be fine" What do I do? Do you know what has maybe happened to my ankle?? Please respond soon!! :(

  • Thanks for the great video. I finally understand what I did to my ankle. I fell and fractured my ankle on 12/5/11. It was a trimalleolar fracture with spiral fractures. Doc said no surgery need since the bones were not displaced.

I spent the first 4 weeks in a hard cast. I am now on week 3 of 4 in a cam boot still no weight bearing. I am allowed to start putting 50% weight while in the house. I will find out what is the next step in a week.

Does it usually take longer to heal with no surgery

  • @Skinsgirl212 depends on the fracture, the doctor selects the best treatment for each patient

  • Thanks Dr.

  • @robosone YOU WELCOME

  • Very good video. Very helpful. I broke my ankle on December 24th 2011. It is a bimalleolar fracture that didn't require surgery. I am still in a cast that is due to come off February 1st. Will I get some sort of air boot or will it be left as is when it comes out of the cast? And how long before I can walk properly? Thanks Dr.

  • @robosone it varies according to the injury

  • Iv had a double ankle fracture last week, the doc says it will take 4weeks no weight on it in a cast, then another two weeks in a weight bearing cast with a boot, is it safe to presume i can go back to a normal life after this period or will i need physiotherapy etc? can i ask them to take the cast off & it get treated with an ankle fracture boot? thanks for your help, great video

  • @Sirbepeboyo1985 anle fracture treatment is usually rewarding

  • Hey doctor, I fractured my ankle in a car accident. I had a total of 5 screws w/ a plate. On the outward side of my ritght foot. And 2 on the inside. Will I suffer from arthritis and will it be severe.

  • @highlifer187 ARTHRITIS IS RARE IN SIMPLE ANKLE FRACTURE

  • may have a fracture

see a doc and get xray

  • I fell and my ankle went inward, and I heard around 5 cracks. It hurt really bad at first then Im guessing the pain numbed away. After a couple of hours, it cracked again and then it the pain came it. I can walk, but very slowly with so much pain coming from the outward part of my ankle. Have I sprained it or fractured it?

  • @Salam545 SEE A DOC

    YOU MAY HAVE A FRACTURE

  • @Klahsee23 listen to your doc

  • Dear doctor, how many of all trimalleolar injuries result in arthritis later in life ? I mean in percentage ? I just had this type of surgery and very worried about the future of my ankle. It was 6 weeks ago and this week I'm about to take off the cast and start physiotherapy. Are there any steps which I must take immediately in order to prevent arthritis later in my life ? can it be avoided at all ?? Thank a lot for your answer !

  • @gilwe arthritis is rare

  • @nabilebraheim

Thanks Dr. Im actually refering to loss of cartilage. I read this is likely to happen many years after a trimellaolar fracture surgery, ending up needing to replace or fuse the ankle. I also read that there are special medicine which slow the process, and other which "build" the cartilage such as glucosamine chondroitin...please also see my private message if possible. I really appreciate your kindness and help !! Thank you !

  • @gilwe One yr. ago I broke my ankle and my foot was almost severed. I immediately got osteomyliytis . The infection was secretly destroying my cartlige so that when I got out of a cast about 4 months after the accident, I started to percieve arthritis. I must now have an ankle fusion as it is horribly painful. I may have gotten the arthritis anyways but it got bad fast because of the infection. Hey. Dont borrow trouble from tomorrow. If your gonna get it, your gonna get it. Best wishes,

  • Hey Doctor i suffered a Medial Malleolus fracture about a month ago. I didn't know it was broken until i took x-rays that day in emergency room. I had the option to just have a cast on or surgery i went with surgery since it was the most convenient for my future as Doctors said. I play soccer at a very competitive level i was just wondering if i would have a full recovery to the point where i can move around as normal or would i have certain complications.

  • @132cabrera you will be ok

  • really a very informative video..specially for learners

  • @hari4frens thanks

  • Hello Doctor!

I sprained my ankle on December 17th 2010 during playing ice hockey. I hit the boards with my left ankle extrenally rotated, therefore I had a syndesmosis sprain injury and suffered a fibular fracture. Had the surgery on December 21st, so its almost 8 weeks passed since the syndesmosis screw fixation. My surgeon said he is goint to take out the screws sometime next week. My question is, how much time does it needs to fully recover? So I could ice skate or play hockey again? Thanks!

  • @borokmail variable

    several month

  • great video especially showing the fracture #3. Could not find any other video about this fracture. My is now 6 weeks ago, had a surgery, cast is off now 4 days. The ankle is very stiff, I think this comes from the achilles right? Any tips how to get the ankles free quick and good?

  • @khancross

    need therapy

    stretch the achilles tendon

use a towel around the tendon to stretch the achilles tendon and to achieve more dorsiflextion

do it for about 6 weeks

    good luck

    keep me informed

thanks, and check my other videos and spread the word

  • i sprained/fractured my ankle on January 1st playing basketball. It has not healed yet. I was not put in a cast, only given a walking boot and my doctor did not mention surgery. Is surgery necessary to fix a fractured ankle?

  • @XxAGISxX

    it depends on the type

send your xrays and i tell you

  • How long after a bi or trimalleolar fracture before a patient would be able to return to full weight bearing?

  • @elmoblatch16 about 3 month

  • @elmoblatch16 you may need to remove the syndesmodic screw out

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • @Tebraheim love the ankle

  • Great

  • Great educational video!

  • for the fixation of syndesmosis, which kind of screw is better: lag screw or full threaded screw
