I am studying podiatry in the Netherlands.. I think it is so amazing how you can help people doing your job... and I really don't care about how my name will be.
carolethecatlover: i'm not in podiatry :) and i'm not a doctor :)
but from what i saw in the video, podiatrists do everything other doctors do, x-rays, medications, lab tests, what else?? So that's why i said they are doctors because they deserve to be called so.
Podiatry is an excellent profession, unless you are un-motivated - only then will you be a 'toe nail cutter'. You can specialize in Rheumatology, minor surgery (YES even in the UK, sports medicine and biomechanics, orthotic manufacturing and prescription, forensics (the CIA and FBI now employ Podiatrists) Even The head of Research for Asics International is a Podiatrist. I studied in the UK and love my chosen career and profession !
The greatest contribution I can make is to deter any uninformed career seeker from entering Podiatry school. The cost, poor quality of training, second rate position within the medical community, decreasing compensation from insurers, geriatric practice dominated by the mindless cutting of toe nails and callouses etc. IMHO If you are enroute to your DPM the only viable specialty which may provide mental stimulation and reasonable financial remuneration would be as a wound care specialist.

Horowme is sour he didn't get into medical school, I'd bet, unlike you and me, who think we are dead lucky to get such an opportunity as a place on pod school. I am in Australia.
In France ,Switzerland and Belgium pédicures-podologues ( french for voetversorger, fusspfleger, chiropodists)are not medical practitioners but paramedicals as physiotherapists, even though they can do the same job as in Spain ( diagonstics, micro-chirurgical interventions on the nails).
They are evolving (3 years after a baccalaureate and five in Iceland).
hi i am a podiatric medicine student from australia
here you do not need a medical degree to become a podiatrist, however you learn almost the same stuff medical students do
but we are called doctors as well

podiatrists ARE doctors

Read the replies, where you are depends on if you are allowed to call yourself 'doctor'.
I don't care either way, it is interesting and, as a woman, this is one of the few jobs which pay me the same as a man.
emoaralso: If you are concerned about NOT being called 'doctor', you are in Podiatry for the wrong reasons.

in spain a ''podologo'' can do the same shings as a DPM in EEUU like bunion or hammer toe surgery for example
RodriDiMartinez 2 years ago
This is only valid in America. In UK, Australia and Europe, it is a paramedical field, like Dental Hygiene or Nursing, you are NOT a doctor.
