  • Happy Birthday. I love you as always forever and still miss that incredible voice. RIP

  • I heard she died in her 30's because of anorexia is it true?

  • @MrWhiteisright69 - Look at the videos on his channel. It explains a lot.

  • @FridayTN You're right,says it all!

  • Karen's version is the BEST! Brings tears to my eyes, miss you Karen

  • @MrWhiteisright69 there are alot of tactful people leaving notes here...but i'm not one of them. u r a MORON. anyone who listens to a singer like karen carpenter, whatever she's singing, & leaves a comment like urs, is obviously inept, probably going deaf, & stupid. MrWhiteiswrong! lol

  • @MrWhiteisright69 WHAT ARE TALKING ABOUT? ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER BY KAREN'S AWESOME VOICE!

  • I have yet not heard anyone who sounds like her. Her voice is so soothing. Thank you for posting.

  • the anniversary of Karen's untimely death approaches I know because everything my birthday comes about I always think of Karen carpenter has she died 2 days before my 20th birthday from the 1st time I heard her unique voice I think I was about 9yrs old I was hooked love you Karen and when the 4th of February comes I will say apray for you and on my birthday 6th February I will listen and sing along to one of my fav CDs thinkin you are there in spirit singing along with me.x

  • Karen carpenter what avoice beautiful just like an angel singing. Godbless you Karen carpenter. Gone but will never be forgotten.xxx

  • @MrWhiteisright69 You poor sad person, I really feel sorry for you, to not be able to appreciate or be affected by this performance means you definitely are lacking something. However, you are entitled to your opinion which seems very much in the minority.

  • Sang like an angel, now she is one.

  • Are there two different Ave Maria's? Because the one I'm familiar with, by Schubert, has an entirely different melody.

  • this is the first time i have loved listening to this song. wow karen :)

  • Perfection.

  • What a very very sad state of health thinking all the journalist who called her :" John and his fat little sister". They are the ones who destroyed her life by making such a negative comment and Karen never ever forgot that headline and quickly became an anorexic and it brought about her untimely death in the prime of her life. Watch what you say journalists!!!! This Ave Maria is just an example of her great talent.

  • Phrasing at its best! What a wonderful talent all around. So sad to have lost her...

I hope she sings one for my wife up there. She loved her voice...God Bless.

  • so effortless...so brilliant..Karen thru´your music you will always be remembered!!

  • i have goosebumps wow

  • Ave Maria, Karen sings so beautifully,I wish she was alive to see how loved she is!

  • Karen Carpenter um presente de Deus!!!!!!!!!

  • karem sing like angel, nao ,,tomorrow ,, forever always,, ...

  • meu deus que coisa linda

  • gotta see ABI/ AVE MARIA sooooo cute

  • Don't know why but didn't expect it to be as good?

  • Angelical, atemporal.

  • Wow!! This is amazing!

  • Sweetest voice ever..................

  • I've heard many versions of this song over my 51 years on this earth. This is by far my favorite rendition. Karen sounds like an angel singing this song. God bless her.

  • There will never be another Karen Carpenter.........Her Beautiful voice is so mesmerizing.....spine tingling, unbelievably beautiful..........one of a kind definitely.......We Love you Karen........Thank You for the Legacy of your beautiful music..........

  • @saxmanchiro "Extreme dieting", is Anorexia Nervosa, or you might say they go together. You have have been well programmed against the inner knowing. May you find your way out. You make me wonder where hope is for Mankind.

Mary Christ Mass universal and triumphant

  • @AOZXRAY Anorexia Nervosa is NOT extreme dieting.

"well programmed against the inner knowing"- I think you have that reversed. Programming is clergy's job. They feed you shit, keep you in the dark(like mushrooms) and then throw in some fear of damnation, torment, pain and voila, brainwashed indoctrinated neurons that dare question the bullshit. I escaped the herd almost 50 yrs ago and learned some facts. Once you learn facts, religion goes away. You should try it some day.

  • @saxmanchiro We will pray for you my brother...............

  • @H8778 Knock yourselves out. Before you go and pray, wouldn't it be courteous to ask which god should be targeted? You assume I love/worship/fear the same god as yourself. If you could, please send your prayers to His Noodliness, the FSM. That way I will feel much better and your fake caring for my soul will be much better served.

Also, a pair of burnt, deformed, arthritic, broken hands will accomplish much more than billions clasped in prayer. Just saying.

  • @saxmanchiro It depends how you define "extreme dieting". (Personally I probably wouldn't exactly call it that either, since it's *worse* than that, but apparently in some people the two things do sort of go together or the one tends to lead to the other or something, which maybe is what the other poster meant?) (Oh, and as to "programming"...a person can be "programmed" in either direction. Nobody ever succeeded in "programming" me to believe, OR not to...I think for myself, thanks. ^_^)

  • @KittyStarlight I was not the person to bring up programming. It was AOZXRAY. I think for myself as well. That's why we call it 'freewill'. When folks worship an overlord, they give up that freewill and think they are destined or their future is predetermined by that overlord(god).

As to the extreme dieting thing, I was trying to point out that dieting is a choice, where a mental disease such as Anorexia is not a choice. That was the jist of my post.

  • Ah 240p, alas we meet again.

    Very beautiful song.

  • such an gelic voice

  • Karen was perfect. what a voice

  • she has a beautiful voice, gone too soon but the rendition just isn't as good as others.

  • I heard all versions of Ave Maria but hers is the best. Once I hear hers I don't like to listen to other versions anymore. Karen is already among the angels in Heaven singing praises for the Lord. Thanks for the High Tech that we still see her, hear her and feel her, We love you Karen.

  • UNA HERMOSA VOZ, UNA GRAN PÉRDIDA PARA LA MÚSICA.

  • rip karen your voice brings me a lots of joy and love, thank you for all the beautiful songs you produced.

  • @NakedAlena It's interesting. I've never heard it sung this low before, but I think everyone can sing best in their own range, and trying to sing it as a soprano may have been disastrous. It is an interesting version, though, since this song was really designed to show off the high notes, not the low notes.

  • There will never be another Karen Carpenter. She was the best!

  • At 1:35 looks a bit like Celine Dion.

  • Nice and welcome feeling.

  • No one will ever come close to the Brilliance of Karen Carpenter..she is so very greatly missed with each and every year that passes...will always love her.

  • Her clarity of voice only adds to the impact of the song!

  • She sings with so much life within her . Love hearing her songs with her brother

  • WOW!!!!!....This has got to rank equal first amidst the top versions of Ave Maria. The voice is Absolute pure gold. Perfect, excellent, superb.....there just aren't the words to describe the brilliance of this artists voice.

  • @TheHitDetector Part of the reason may be that this is the only alto of quality to sing the song. For some reason, there is this huge preference for sopranos. The lower tone makes the melody so much more gentle. That's why I think this is the best recording of the piece. Pity there's nothing more than 240 p..

  • Karen left us way to early her voice and style will never be seen again she was one of a kind God bless you karen may you forever R.I.P

  • THE CARPENTERS.. were and STILL ARE.. SPECIAL TO ME! THEY GIVE ME CALM.. when I AM FEELING BLUE! KAREN and RICHARD.. were among GODS BLESSINGS.. to Music.

  • The most beautiful alto voice God ever created.

  • @sherrygilbert7 you're so right!

  • Beautifully sung by a beautiful, strong lady. Her legacy lives on.

  • karen an richard carpenter love ya fab fab fab xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Such purity in her vocals and my favourite version.I much prefer Gounaud's Ave Maria over Schubert's.

  • How can perfection be so flawlessly easy?

  • AMAZING

  • Best version I've heard so far.

  • Thats the traditional music score ...nothing new from Big Brother who wasn't Karen's best friend.. She was all

She was the carpenters ...see what happened when she died ...Oblivion for him.

    He was a looser

  • gacj2010 is a loser

  • Absolutely brilliant. Have heard this sung by so many artists. Karen had so much passion in her voice when she sang it, It made me weep because her death was so needless.

  • Absolutely! This is divine!

  • I have yet to find a better rendition of this famous song. Effortless breathing yet heartfelt delivery. And Richard's arrangement helps make the recording a classic for all time.

  • Wonderful - 5 losers with cloth ears!

  • @stevecowdry Some people just have to run other people down for the thrill of it. I would like to hear YOU sing this hymn better than this. You have a cloth heart if you have one at all.

  • WOW ! ! Never heard his before. Fantastic !

  • I first discovered this version of the Ave Maria on the Christmas Special of the Carpenters and it is one of the most moving and heartfelt nusical moment I have ever listened to.

Her voice is as pure as a crystal and she sings with so much faith.

Yes God bless you dear Karen for these magical musical moments you shared with us !

  • She was my fav, I was devastated when she passed away, God bless you Karen.

  • Karen, I never knew you but I miss your presence on Earth. If there is truly a Heaven, you must be singing solos with the choir.

  • Why so talented people die so early...Karen..Freddie Mercury...

  • Thank you for posting this...I learned to sing the Ave Maria to Karen's recording and to this day I sing it with her interpretation. Peace, love and kindness...:)

  • Thanks for the upload! This is beyond beautiful!!!

  • Karen : I wanna go to heaven to see you for eternity .

  • @Luisveram

    imagine the crowds haha

  • Una cancion celestial solo podia ser interpretada por una voz angelical y ninguna mas apropiada que Karen Carpenter.

  • Karen was so special...she was much loved...she died far to early xxx

  • @silverstartrucker I know.

  • lovely rendition. deanna durbin still the best for me.

  • This is the music they play in Heaven. Perfectly said MattS1224. I hope I get there to hear her live.

  • It certainly is a spine tingling rendition, I love it and still get goosebumps every time I listen to it.

  • What a heavenly voice. Mother of God...... Please bring back Karen and Michael Carpenter.

Many thanks for uploading. May God Bless You.

  • I was a huge Karen Carpenter fan - I moved on because I just couldn't bear to be reminded of her terrible, tragic death. I came across this video (which I had not seen before) quite by "random accident" this morning, and I am now fighting back the tears.

  • Karen's voice sends me out of this galaxy.I will always love you Karen.

  • A beautiful song that transends all languages. I had a soloist sing this song at our wedding. It was beautiful and still brings a tear to my eye when I watch our wedding video.

  • The best version of this song hands down!!!!! Karen i sooo miss you!

  • goose bumps.

  • I did shed a tear...I remember I was standing at my desk at work in 1983 when her passing was announced. Her voice is stunning, absolutely perfect, but what always strikes me the most to this day is that the very breath she takes is an integral part of the music. Haunting. Exquisite. Sublime. Thank you still.

  • Absolutely Beautiful! No other words can describe this! Please excuse me while I "Favorite" this and wear out the "Replay" button. Beautiful Karen thank you for recording this! And thank you wilbyhilbly for sharing with us.

  • for my mum I share this, she will understand ...beautiful video, btw>>

  • Chills tha's all I can say...

  • So beautiful, even on May 16th.

  • nNce voice ! nice singer ! just a piece of paradize in this crazy world ! merci - superbe

  • THE GOOD LORD MUST HAVE NEEDED HER TO SING IN A QUIRE OF ANGELS

THIS IS REALLY GREAT THE LATIN IS PERFECT. MUST HAVE GONE TO GREAT SCHOOL. SHE LOOKED LIKE A NUN, OR QUAKER

  • What a great loss to us all that we never got to hear her for so much longer. Just beautiful and such warm tones!

  • Oh wow, the Carpenters did Ave Maria too? Pretty nice.

  • Heartbreakingly beautiful....God rest her beautiful soul.

  • There are and have been many great voices out there, technique, range and tones, interpretation and feeling..but she's the BEST female voice I've ever heard all combined, and I have heard a lot in my many decades of music. She must be back with the Angels that missed her up in their choirs. Thanks Lord for lending her to us for a while to take a glance of what must be.

  • i feel lyk im in heaven..

  • BELISSIMO!

  • endlessly loving it

  • Karen unforgettable, simply.

  • I've never hear KC singing this before, absolutely beautiful.

  • Such a beautiful, superb, sublime interpretation by the great Karen Carpenter! This keeps on being my favorite version of "Ave Maria" since 1978, when it was released on "Christmas Portrait". Thank you for posting it.

  • The angel's version of Ave Maria, Only karen can sang it so pure, so touched our hearts.

  • It is so sad to think that such a wonderful talented young lady with the voice of an angle is gone.

  • that voice is always heaven to mine ears! my first time to hear this rendition of 'ave maria' from karen. always magical beyond words to hear her voice! thank you!

  • This song is on their Christmas Portrait album. A great album by her brother(mostly) that wil surprise you!

  • Wow, what a beautiful version of Ave Maria. But anything she sang was beautiful.

  • This rendition of Ava Maria just melts my heart. I play the Christmas Portait through out the year just beacause I want to hear her lovely voice; that now is stilled. I am sure she had one of the most beautiful voices that we have had the good fortune to know and love.

  • After listening to so many opera singers sing this piece, I stumble upon this version, and I thought to myself, surely it can't be as good, what with Karen Carpenter being a popular singer and all.

But boy was I wrong. She's amazing as always.

  • @thequantumcollapse Karen Carpenter sang in Latin, Spanish, Japanese, and of course English. She may have sung in more languages. She would have been a great Carmen or Delilah, had she gone the opera route. She certainly had what it takes to sing operatic roles very well. But she song her own creative repertoire, and she will forever be remembered for that. You're right that Karen sings this on par with any opera singer.

  • Every note she sings, every breath she takes, is PURE gold.

  • i could not have said it better

  • I remember when I bought A Christmas Portrait. I had heard one of the songs playing on the radio and was immediately captivated and had to have the album. To this day it remains one of those albums that makes up the fabric of my Christmas experience. The poignancy in hearing "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow," is matched by the hope and love of the Ave Maria that Karen sings/prays. We WILL all be together and are the better by being touched by Karen Carpenter.

  • I remember when I bought A Christmas Portrait. I had heard one of the songs playing on the AM radio and was immediately captivated and had to have the album. To this day it remains one of those albums that makes up the fabric of my Christmas experience. • Karen had the voice of an angel! Beautiful beyond description.

  • I am just so filled with tears of love right now. Just listening to Karen is so over whelming isn't it? Surely she is singing with the angels in Heaven! So, I am thankful I have Jesus in my heart, knowing that someday I will be in Heaven, and listen to Karen singing in person again. I miss her sooo much! "You sing like Karen " I often heard many years ago. My friends used to be so amazed when I'd sing. A God given gift eh? I sing from high to really low. I'll sing harmaony with Karen someday.

  • I am just so filled with tears of love right now. Just listening to Karen is so over whelming isn't it? Surely she is singing with the angels in Heaven as the bible says that we will be serving the Lord when in Heaven how we did on earth. So, I am thankful I have Jesus in my heart, knowing that someday I will be in Heaven, and listen to Karen singing in person again. I miss her sooo much!

  • my wife sings much better.

  • @doromamire And she's still married to you?! How sad.

  • @doromamire hi there. l noticed your post. and l my self can sing like karen. but l believe that noone as ever beaten her voice. but you say your wife is better. well lm interested to hear her. so would it be ok if you uploaded her singing.. thank you

  • @doromamire

Hum? I'm so glad that you love and honour your wife. However, it isn't who sings better but understatning that we are to be humble in the God given talents we have. I do not perform but sing form the heart to the point full grown men have cried. If your wife has done this too, well then, it truly is not performance to be praised but an annointed voice to glorify the Lord that the hearts of peole be opened and healed.

  • NO ONE sings better than karen, never mind MUCH BETTER than her, imo.

  • This song that she sings is from one of the Christmas albums.....last song. I have it on cassette, which I still have a player to listen to....Thank God, because I think this is the most beautiful rendition of this song.

  • tears began to fall...

  • This is so beautiful...Karen Carpenter came from heaven to sing with a voice like an angel, I will never forget her!

  • @Mickeyzzzz

I sure do agree with you! So sad, she had to go back to heaven so young eh? I'll never forget the day I heard it on the news. I cried so hard. I'm sure most f the peole that heard her throughout the world, hearing of such agreat loss cried.

  • The thing that makes her version so beautiful, is she is singing in a contralto range...and yet, she can still soar upon octaves to hit those high notes. She had a 4 octave range. Her voice is unforgettable. She did a live version of this in the CSLBC Christmas Performance in 1978, and it almost sounds identical to this studio recorded version of pure crystalline magic!

  • no where near as good as the epic version on youtube - the german version. YSF

  • A true angel :) Karen's voice is really magical :)

  • Like honey driping down a chocolate gangplank...silky smooth

  • SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • karen carpenter was the best singer ever

  • @TeeneyBop1976 NO QUESTION! she had a magic that is once in a lifetime! Karen is even better than Celine Dion! Karen is timeless and I am sure people 100 years from now will be enjoying her as we all are now, that is the sign of a TRUE artist, who lives on forever. :)

  • @maleficentdiva better than celine dion? well, duh! karen is better than *everyone* imho.

  • @No1KCfan6

I am Canadian so I love Celine of course but not all of her songs as she loses some breath control and her voice wavers in some songs.

Karen sang to perfection no matter what type of song it was. Truly a voice annointed by God to sing on earth and surely in Heaven as I type this.

  • Thanks for posting this, she is with our lady now.

  • que linda es karen beatifull girl

  • Bach

  • This is different version than the Schubert one.. Does anyone know who wrote this version? I've been looking for this sung by a soprano..

  • @peep773 It's the Bach/Gounod setting. Lots of examples on YouTube.

  • I don't believe in the Christian thing, but Karen has a great voice.

  • I agree, this is a sound of heaven. A sweet song talkin bout our sweet Holly Mother!!!

  • What voice control Karen has on this song !!!!!! WOW!!!!!!

  • I have heard sopranos sing this..in fact I have a good friend of mine, Denise Culham of Regina, Sk, who sang this song at a friend's wedding...well she blew everyone away with her voice. She hit those unbelievable high notes at the Holy Rosary Cathedral...and she is like 5 ft 2...she always reminds me of Karen Carpenter...in how beautiful of a voice she has!!

  • if not the most moving beautiful version of ave maria

  • this is perfection on top of perfection, multiplied into infinity, spread across the universe. this is the music they play in Heaven. It is exquisitely beautifully Divine.

  • I love that you said that this is the music they play in heaven! it makes me happy!

  • thanks :-)

  • @MattS1224

I couldn't agree more , if i make to Heaven i expect to see and hear Karen singing this song over and over again.

It has been my favorite song for about 30 years now.

I never grow sick of it ..

  • @rmc2663 You WILL make it to heaven- you believe in Jesus, and He is the way, the truth, and the life- He is our way to heaven- not by our works, but His finished work on the cross for us, dying for our sins. God bless you! See you in heaven!

  • @nakedBison69

I agree this is my favorite song of all time.

  • @nakedBison69 You put it so perfectly!! Just like Karen's voice. what a gift from God!!

  • thank you :-)

  • @nakedBison69 Love your comments! The angels cry to hear her sing.

  • @nakedBison69 Yes....nakedBison 69...you have a wonderful way with words, I couldn't have said that any better! I believe that this would qualify for the "Heaven Playlist"....and, jumping to a totally different experience, I enjoy Los Lonely Boys, "How Far is Heaven" for the time being, until I get there, hopefully :)

  • absolute beauty
