  • is this similar to 3g and 4g phone data plans? I have unlimited minutes and text and internet with sprint, just not 3g... ive been told numerous time when ive inquired about upgrading my phone, that i cannot use the newer phone models unless i pay the extra money per month to have 3g.

  • 1) Most any comment from a Comcast customer is worthless. It is very unlikely they have any idea how these things really work. Example: thinking $40 is a lot to pay for Internet that is dozens of megs per second. Wrong.

    2) Network A pays Network B, plain and simple. That's how *EVERYONE* but Comcast does it. Comcast did a really good job of arguing why they should pay Level 3.

    3) Believe in Net Neutrality? You're wrong.

  • @johanhammy what a ridiculous comment.

  • @dakuwan Why?

  • Comcast, go die.

  • After this crock of crap I'd stay as far away from Comcast as possible. Comcast customers already pay them to get that data from Level3!

  • Well, I pay Comcast. I pay them quite a bit. So, they can use THAT money to get compensated. It's like my credit card company. They want to charge customers even when they pay their cards off right away. They whine they don;t make money. BUT THEY DO. THey make money from the merchant. Quite a bit. I should know. My biz paid the card companies like $40K last year. This is double dipping, and that's what Comcast is trying to do.

  • Thanks guys for letting us know how this is crap.

I saw it elsewhere and just felt like it was mis-portrayed so I came here to see the comments so I could understand.

I am very much for a neutral internet, the question is how to maintain it without too much government, big brother, I will take care of everything, just rely on us, approach.

  • Verizon FIOS is where it is. If you can get it, GET IT.

  • That is a misrepresentation of how "peering" networks work.

Comcast you are not a "backbone" provider you are a "last mine" provider. You only send and recieve packets that your customers requested which they have already payed for with their 250 GB caps.

That peering relationship is not analogous unless Comcast has suddenly started being a backbone and providing internet to non-Comcast users and giving their users asymetrical lines with just as much upload as download.

  • @Ariolander Actually, they do sell big, symmetrical pipes to many organizations, including enterprise, smaller ISPs, hosting providers, etc. It is highly unlikely, however, that they'll become a significant national or international transit provider.

  • Nice Comcast. Way to twist what peering actually is, into something that fits your agenda. /douchebags

  • By this logic my ISP should be paying me rather than the other way round.

  • Go to hell Comcast. I hope the Government takes you down.

  • Comcast loses the argument when they have a 250 Gigabyte bandwidth limit on their own customers while at the same time claiming some sort of financial loss from Level 3.

No what needs to happen is the US gov stepping in and stripping companies of their ability to block any bandwidth or impose any limits.

  • My video response that Comcast probably won't approve

  • Comcast is really in position to become a MAJOR Internet name---as big as Google, or Apple. They should stop whining, stop being such greedy a-holes, and build their network, their technology, and their brand, until their name is synonymous with the fastest, most reliable Internet speeds available and not just TV. 'Joe Waz'? Are you kidding me??

  • I have no idea why this video was posted by Comcast or what value it serves.

What I would like to see: "How to save lots of money on your Comcast bill!"

  • @bladerunner750 PR to help show Comcast as the good guy in Level3 vs Comcast

    gigaom_com/2010/11/29/forget-net-neutrality-comcast-might-break-the-web/

  • No matter how Comcast tries to spin this, it comes down to one fact, Comcast is saying that Netflix traffic (via Level3) to Comcast's own customers is too much of a burden for the Cable company to bear and needs payment from Level3 so Comcast may continue to serve it's customers the Netflix content they requested.

I call shenanigans, I already pay them $40 a month for internet, I expect that they can provide me with whatever content I request from wherever, not go beg other networks to helpout

  • Most small businesses and home users do a fraction of data uploads versus downloads. Wouldn't it be expected that most traffic would be going into Comcast's network since it is mostly home and small business?

Besides, most people I know are paying a LARGE fee to Comcast for a pretty spotty internet connection.

  • Hey Comcast, when you throttle your users, less traffic tends to leave your network.
