he was present during the recording and only recorded bass parts but not vocals, at least thats what i heard.

Norris did not record bass or vocals on any of the As I Lay Dying albums. He was present during the recording of Shadows Are Security, but Phil Sgrosso played bass and Dave Arthur of Kings To You provided the clean vocals due to the fact that Norris couldn't learn the songs in the short time they needed to be recorded in. However he is credited for doing them live.
