I think Earthshock lacked several things the menace, of the Cybermen was not like the 60s cyberstories Adric is killed off. I did find Adric's demise more dramatic and moving than Gan's demise in B7, in the episode Pressure Point. Adric was a teenage bot whereas Gan was a grown up man, who could look after himself in ways that Adric could not. The way the spaceship is blown to smithereens, and Adric is killed is a great shock Matthew Waterhouse did not like Adric being killed off in Earthshock

I think the cybermen in Earthshock, were not a patch on the Cybermen in the 60s serials from Tenth Planet through the Invasion Earthshock kills off Adric who really sould have been written out in a better way. I think Adric's demise in Earthshock was ten billion times more dramatic than Gan's demise in Blake's seven's episode Pressure Point. Adric was a teenage boy whereas Gan was a grown up man who could take care of himself, in ways that Adric could not. The Cybermen lacked menace an were dull

Adric is blown up aboard a spaceship laden with bombs , Gan is killed by a falling roof in an explosion

@LaFinDesFilms I think Adric was cruelly treated but his demise in Earthshock was much more dramatic and moving than Gan's demise in Blake's 7,in Pressure point and Adric compared to Gan was only a teenage lad not a grown man like Gan. I did'nt think the Cybermen was as menacing in Earthshock like in the earlier cyberstories, such as tent planet, the moonbase, tomb of the cybermen, the wheel in space and the invasion . I don't hate Adric, I feel sorry for him. But I also agree with what you said, I think the first fifth Doctor companions (ie. Nyssa, Tegan and Adric) were some of the best. (This is with Romana II and Brig. Lethbridge-Stewart)

Tom Bkaer didnt do the five doctors because he had recently left the show and he was typecast as doctor who, if he returned then it would make him even more so. Maybe the whole JNT thing was a little part of it. JNT did wonderful things for the show, sure Tom may not have got on with him but he kept the show going for another 10 years (I think)

Quite. This was very traumatic for me to watch as a 7 year old. Adric was my favourite character and that of many other young boys and to see him die like that was quite heartbreaking.
