Nice, even in a Downtown Boston hi-rise with a noise masking system, you can still hear the Q. You don't hear much else, but you know when BFD and BEMS are responding.
@Waddle5blue If you research the subject you will find that the Federal Signal Q-siren is illegal in New York City (not the state) however many fire apparatus still use it illegally.
@code3paris yes dude you`re right :-))) we use the EQ2B on many rigs instead :-) some of the older ladder trucks have the Q like Ladder 3 lol sometimes they use it :-))) it`s the greatest way to responde :-) our new ladder it will become a 2011 Ferrara 114 foot Rearmount will have a Fedeeral EQ2B too :-))) god bless y dude
@code3paris the regular Federal Signal q2b is illegal in NYC, but the new Federal Signal EQ2b is legal. They city has allowed several of the units use the electronic version of the siren.
@code3paris Yeah not illegal. The city just thought of ways to lessen the number of Q's, like having insurance stop covering them & getting maintenance to take them off if they found them during repairs.
@Waddle5blue The only Q's I have heard on FDNY trucks on youtube are the fake electric Q's that are not as loud. But that's just what I've seen on here, I've never been to NYC so I don't know for sure.
fed q's are not illegal in ny most are told not to use them because of the way the sound bounces off the tall building in other parts of the city where there are no tall building they use the fed
@theultimatesabresfan The Federal Signal Q2B, commonly referred to as the Q-Siren, is banned in New York City. What you hear in New York City on some fire trucks is the Federal Signal EQ2B (Such as on Rescue 1 and Engine 1) which is an electronic siren built to mimic the Q-Siren. If you do some research on the web you'll find more information on this issue and the controversy surrounding the Q-Siren and how it is banned in New York City.
@jazzbutterworth Yes that sounds like the Federal Signal Q-Siren, although it is banned in New York. Nice that they are able to still use it without getting caught. ;-)
@code3paris The cops really can't stop them. They don't have the right to do that. Instead,, if fdny forgets to take it off before maintenance inspects the truck, then they will confiscate it.
@code3paris The firefighters at that station put it in themselves. If the truck goes in to get repairs or anything and the Q is still on there, then the city with take it.
There is a video of Rescue companies 3 and 4 responding with a Q siren, as well as a video of 4 Truck responding with them. It's the real thing, however, they are banned in the city. Should they accidentally leave it on the rig when it goes it repair, the repair shop employees confiscate them.
Love Boston and FDNY's engines.

@xtremetop100videosXD Too loud. Search the internet and you'll find plenty of articles on the subject.

@code3paris ah, if you used a "real" q-siren in NYC, everyone in the streets would be deaf!

@code3paris What you're hearing on the NYC rigs is the EQ2B. Electronic version that is way more directional and not as annoying
Stealthguy06 3 months ago
@Stealthguy06 Some FDNY rigs have illegally maintained the Q-siren. Most have the EQ2B but you'll also hear the real deal.
code3paris 3 months ago 2
@Stealthguy06 Wrong because R-1 in NYC runs the regular Q siren. Look it up
reeves1212 3 months ago
@Stealthguy06 annoying? the electronic Q sounds like a cat in heat and THAT ISN'T annoying to you? i'll pick the real deal any day.
sabertoothtyler 2 months ago
@sabertoothtyler It's more directional. Best bet is to just use a Whelen or Code 3 Vcon.

@MrFWDSeagrave Ladder 30's q is a type of mechanical q. It's just not the kind we're used to.

@code3paris The funny thing is that some trucks do use actual Q's in NYC like Squad 18 for example.
