  • I'm Lucy in this song I have to sing

  • It is one of the most very beautiful songs I have ever heard, sung by oneof the most beautifu voices of alltime!

  • the redhead girl sounds like Belle fro Beauty and The Beast! LOVE THIS SONG its so wonderful!!!

  • Lucy is the one who does the high notes at the end harmonies correct? or is that emma? sorry

  • @karianaxx emma takes the high notes

  • They are amazing! i've just started recording myself singing on youtube and would love peoples opinions

  • amazing. have watched this so many times and still get goosebumps. you can never get bored of or take pure talent for granted!

  • Andrea Rivette I love her voice so much in this song, especially when she goes high. She does it so powerfully and controlled.

  • I'm doing this song for my drama club induction ceremony as Emma :)

  • @tahnindisguise It's a beautiful song that's sung incredibly well, of course people will watch this for fun.

  • Gets on my nerves when they get American actors to do musicals that are set in Britain!

  • @MultiBelle22 just curious, but does it bother you when they get British actors to do musicals in America?

  • @tomtom1354 Yes; if they don't American accents for their parts!

  • Their hair is awful... But their voice is amazing:))

  • @tahnindisguise Happens to be one of my favorites:)

  • @tahnindisguise I do!

  • @tahnindisguise ummm yeah. I watch this a) for fun yes

    b) because they unlike the miley ciruses and ke$has of late actually have talent

    c) the song actually has deeper meaning than "shit, i'm drunk"

so its a little dated. the hair is awful. but...god can these ladies sing!

  • @tahnindisguise i do i absolutely Love musicals its ok if you dont but its a beautiful song and has more meaning than most pop songs have now

  • were can i get the video?

  • @Z3kedog Google "youtube downloader".

  • Amazing voices!!

  • i love this song :') me and my friend did it at school, and then covered it on afterwards on here :) these 2 are amazing - i wanna be even half as good as them one day!! ;)

  • this was a phenomenal presentation of this song.. the two voices really compliment one another with the alternating between the two. the timbre, tone, & technique. i can watch this video a thousand times & my love only grows for it. i got so teary eyed at such a masterpiece. i would love to sing this song one day! brilliant. ^_^

  • I'm Doing this for a benifit dinner with my Friend Beca i so excited :P

  • My marching band played this my freshman year and it still makes me emotional

  • What I love about this rendition is that, while both women are singing their faces off, they both really seem to understand what they are singing about and aren't just thinking "do I sound pretty?" Well done ladies.

  • It's like a straight up belting match!

  • @MsCandiceO Haha, especially at the end, when they're trading lines and each one is progressively getting higher XD

  • I'm doing this in voice lessons with my cousin. :]

I sing Emma's part and she sings Lucy's part.

  • @MissAM0RTENTIA

Cool story bro, time to tell it again.

  • Coleen Sexton and Linda Eder are both FABULOUS !!!!!

  • wow~

  • simply beautiful!!! just as on the cd...

  • Wow I was wondering If this would work for a solo audition for a musical does anyone think it will?

  • @8118starrynight Yes it can, I've sung it as a solo, there is very little of it that you can't do as a solo piece, it's beautiful to sing

  • @8118starrynight yes! they have solo versions written in some singing books, if you can find one, they sound pretty good!

  • Fabulous!! I'm wondering though if there's a version with Linda and Christiane out there?? They're my favorite. :)

  • This is amazing!

  • Do you have the full show, or just clips? I'd love to see more of this!!

  • I saw the touring show in Edinburgh with Marti Pellow. The two women doing this song gave me chills, its an incredible duet :)

  • Its beautiful. The performance are both riveting and tremendously soulful. This is one of few songs that I used to play over and over and over again just to hear the magnificence of the singing and the wistfulness of the tune. They're great examples for us to emulate in our own singing.

  • jeeeesus they're so beautiful and incredibly talented.

  • Why people go out of their way dislike something like this? I would give ANYTHING to have seen this live!!! <3

  • watch this one watch?v=vCr9Grw2koM Brazilian version

  • Chills.

  • you dont see talent like this anymore. they're amazing. crazy, when i was little, i wanted to be on broadway, not a pop star.

  • My drama teacher put this on in school and it was the last day I was going to see the person I loved, I cried and didn't stop for an hour and a half. <3

  • this is SO AMAZING!!!!! but the hoff in the middle looking like he needs to pee just kind of ruins it.

  • Well,I think this is fantastic. There's only SO much criticism you can give to this performance. You can have opinions, and you can say that this is not a performance you personally like, but there is no way that you can say that this is BAD.These two women are so talented it's not even funny. And remember, voice is not the only factor in theatre...there's also acting. So even though you might not personally like their voices, they are still amazing performers and got cast in this for a reason.

  • @broadwayxdude06 As a musical theatre major who sings soprano, I actually only really use my head voice. I do not belt at all, simply because my break point is very low for a girl (I can only belt a C). If I had to give my opinion, belting isn't actually that great for your voice. If you're going to belt, you either need the pure talent to do so or need to be heavily trained. I've seen so many girls who can belt lose their ability from over-belting.

  • @travelingheart58 you're a musical theatre major??!

  • Don't like this version. Both voices are shrill and they take ill-advised liberties with the tune. Give me Eder and Noll or Carmello ...

  • Gorgeous!

  • Coleen Sexton is an incredible performer. She is an excellent Elphaba, doesn't even work up a sweat jump roping in Legally Blonde, and is beyond breathtaking in this song. She has a long career ahead of her.

And this video is my first introduction to Andrea Rivette, and she is also fantastic. She has such power, and doesnt even look like shes pushing herself! This video is incredible!

  • @starpiggy777 how old is coleen? her version of a new life is AMAING!! i didnt know she did elphaba in wicked... was she brooke in legally blonde?

  • @broadwayxdude06 She was 20, now she's 31

  • this song sung by these two creates an orgasm of sound that just makes me realize we don't have that many truely talented singers anymore...thus jonas brother on broadway geting eaten alive ;) hehe

  • abusing the replay button....

  • Ya, I was in a show with Andrea...WHAT NOW hahaha

  • pqp isso é lindo demais!

  • Does anyone know what year this was from? :)

  • @katheriner10 whatever year the hoff was in it. /:

  • Fabulous, simply fabulous. Andrea and Coleen are both PERFECT for these roles. This is my favorite rendition of this song. Coleen has such an amazing, unique, voice for Lucy and I absolutely adore it. Andrea hits those high notes so effortlessly. It's beautiful, I love her as Emma. Both of these extremely talented women blow me away. I love this song so much! :)

  • David hasselhouf is good in this version! Why don't people like him?

  • omgg!! im crying! this is so beautiful that i just cant describe it!! people like them are my inspiration to go on broadway!

  • phenomenal.

  • nevermind...i figured it out... ignore my last comment! (: both of them are amazing!

  • who is who? im confusedd...im singing this songg and im not sure which part im singingg so if someone could plz let me know which girl is the blondee and whichh girl is the brunette!! thx!;)

  • @iloveeyouu126 the blonde is Emma, the brunette is Lucy

  • @TheCherryBomber1 thank youu!

  • Love these two. Great great song! :) Always forget David Hasselfoff is Jekyll and Hyde in this one. LOL

  • is the role of Emma the same of Cozette (Les Miserables) or is it just the impression I got. Sopranos are mostly the "good and virtuous girl" which are other words for "boring", "without character". it's a shame. why can't there be good and virtuous girls with class and character?!

  • @IrinaRamova Jane Eyre the musical with James Barbour and Marla Scheffel. Blanch Ingram is the soprano and not so good lol

  • @IrinaRamova There's also Glinda from Wicked. Cliche example, I know, but she definitely has character-you can't deny that.

  • @wickedchic15 oh, Glinda's great! but I would not call her a soprano. not a typical soprano anyway.

I was thinking more of Christine (Phantom of the Opera), Maria (West Side Story), Cozette (Les Miserables) and many others.

oh, Janet from the Rocky Horror Picture Show is an exception too.

  • @IrinaRamova no you're right.. Look at Maria - Sound of Music, Johanna - Sweeney Todd, Truly - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, etc.. But at the same time there aren't many mezzo roles, or so i find it anyway!

  • @jeanfarrell1994 There are TONS of mezzo soprano roles in newer shows - it's turned into a very much preferred range. Altos slip in every now and then. Sopranos are actually very rare...

  • @Thunder7cloud are sopranos normally the high singing opera singers. i figure like lead girls would need to be soprano but i know a lot of singers even the difficult role elphaba originated by idina is mezzo

  • @broadwayxdude06 The main difference between sopranos and mezzosopranos is that sopranos will use head voice. Even Emma isn't fully in head voice here, she is mixing the high notes. Mezzosopranos sing lower than sopranos do, but use chest voice and belt high notes. This has become a more popular voice type recently because of pop music's love of belting high notes, and broadway has emulated that in recent years by using mostly mezzosoprano leads.

  • @Thunder7cloud is it bad to not use head voice? when i think of soprano i think of high like opera singers because in choirs theyre the ones to do that. belting to me is like your moment. are you a singer? i love to belt!

  • @broadwayxdude06 I'm a singer, but I'm a guy, so head voice doesn't really come into play, haha. It's not bad to use head voice, it's really just a difference of styles. Yes, opera singers more often than not are sopranos because they are preferred in operas - the mezzosoprano style does not work as well as soprano does in operas. Emma here is a little unsure...she mixes on her high notes and could do well as a mezzosoprano, but likely could also be a soprano by using head voice.

  • @Thunder7cloud whos voice do you like better andrea or coleen?

  • @Thunder7cloud I think this is why she was cast though. The character of Emma is rugged, edgy, gritty, dirty, and this suits her voice perfectly. [I am also a singer/erformer] If the was a singer was the style of 'Lucy' that's where she would've been cast, however for obvious reasons, she wasn't. She is a true professional.

  • @Thunder7cloud i know lucy's a mezzo soprano. her voice is beautiful. whats your range?

  • @broadwayxdude06 I'm a baritone/bass - My lowest note is the 3rd B below middle C, and my highest note is the E above middle C, without falsetto.

  • @Thunder7cloud how cool! do you like being a baritone/bass or do you wanna like sing higher?

  • @broadwayxdude06 I love my low notes, but I'd like to gain some higher notes - given Broadway's annoying obsession with tenors lately, I want to work on my range, as most characters these days will sing higher than I can. I've never taken voice lessons, so I have a feeling I will be able to improve my belting range when I start.

  • @IrinaRamova What about Belle from "Beauty and the Beast"? She is a very virtuous character but also carries a lot of attitude with her.

I think that Emma is not the "typical" Soprano (she really should be a mezzo and have a hell of a mix imo)...nor is she the "typical" archetype of Victorian Women, she doesn't keep to herself or melt into the background, she is actually a very rich, full character--if played correctly. The thing to avoid in this show is making Lucy and Emma too melodramatic.

  • @scotpj true. I think a lot depends on the actress.

  • This song is So BEAUTIFULL!!! where did you get the actual footage?

  • This would be perfect... were it not for Hasslehoff. UGH.

  • haha true! they just kind of look similar!

  • Andrea's last note is so beautiful

  • i literally just died from their amazingness

  • I love how they sing this. Many videos in here show a bunch o' girls squeezing their voices. They can do it so naturally and sooo belted =P

  • Colleen Sexton!!!!!!! :D

  • Lucy reminds me of Lea MIchele

  • @theatregirl290 : except coleen is better and doesn't squinch her eyes all the time XD

  • I love Musical Theatre and it's my dream to be on Broadway but I find it really stupid for people to bring up Miley Cyrus etc. Not everyone has to have a voice like Patti Lupone or Bernadette Peters to be entertaining, seriously music is also supposed to be fun and if everyone sounded the same it would be boring! ALSO it's irrelevant to bring her or any pop star up on a video like this if they've never even attempted theatre ! It's like comparing apples and oranges!

  • @WendIaBergman precisely

  • which person is which character?

  • @iam2sweet29 The blonde one is Emma, who is Jekyll finance & the brunette is Lucy (:

  • Coleen sucks Eder forever!!!! =D

  • Once upon a time it took talent for a person to be amazing

    Then they invented autotune

  • @punksnail1993 LOL HAHAHAHA thats funny.

  • @punksnail1993 lol so funnny but true.

  • @punksnail1993 Amen.

  • @punksnail1993 You don't autotune broadway...I hope you're talking about something else than this. If so, yes, very correct.

  • I find it heart braking that millions of people have no idea who these incredibly gifted talents are. Lucy and Emma are amoung hundreds of incredible musical theatre performers who never get enough praise for their work. You can't even compare them to people like Miley Cyrus, they are in a differnet league. Musical theatre kicks butt

  • Andrea Rivette came to our school for a Revue and was fantastic! :D I love love love her.

  • Very strong female parts in this musical (: And come one guys.. Hoff isn't that bad.. I know he's not the best.. but some guys sing it waaaaaaaaaaaay worse.

  • this is amazing

  • They could sing the phone book and I'd be happy.

  • Minutesofglory

Are you serious ! If you don't know then google it you idiot he plays Jekyll and Hyde

    God bro

  • @ thereyougogirl

Because he does love her he cares for her too much that's why he sent the letter for her to leave because Jekyll knew Hyde would

    Kill her, it's pretty obvious

  • Im doing Jeykll and Hyde and i play Emma.... O.o hehehe i sing this song..i love it

  • coleen is amazing. i wonder why she never really leapt into the level with the top actresses in theater. She has the talent, looks, voice. She was 20 when she started...10 years should have been enough to make her into the league of the elite. anyone knows why?

  • They were a little off on the last note, but I love how Coleen fixes it. :D:D:D Love that woman.

  • we were watchin this in my thearte arts class nd. . .why does lucy think he loves her?!

  • @ThereYouGoGirl Because he didn't treat her like dirt. It's a bit like loving the one person who is nice to you.

  • sweet, heatfelt singing..........RANDOM PANTING DAVID HASSELHOFF......sweet, heatfelt singing.

  • I'm auditioning for Lucy's role in my high school production with this song. I love it so much!

  • what is the rold of David again ?

  • When I hear this it makes me wonder why people like Kesha and Miley Cyrus are famous.....

  • @raychillie Cause Miley's dad made it big... so he has money to buy his daughter entrance into the world of pop culture... As for Kesha... I have no freaking clue... she doesnt sing... she talks to a beat...

  • @LauranaAridian Cuz they are catchy. Don't begrudge them their 15 minutes. It's been ten years since this performance, and Coleen and Andrea are still being talked about and admired. Do you think that Kesha and Miley will be anything more than a footnote in 10 years? Disposable pop is part of the American way.

  • @raychillie Excellent point. The public and masses have lousy taste.

  • @raychillie Well, you know, you can't exactly jam out and go wild to broadway ballads. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful song.

  • ive always wanted to be lucy; mainly because of this song and dangerous game :)

  • que hermosa cancion!!!!! :) quiero este musical en dvd!! HELPPPP

  • I wish this was on iTunes! I know that Christiane Noll and Linda Eder were the original pair, but this is still my favorite version!

  • Terrible. They are behind so much. Pulling it around all over the place but they Orchestra don't seem to always be with them.

  • @kcleworth Wow, behind? Anyone who knows anything about music is aware its common practice to be on or slightly behind the beat, even very far behind at times for affect. It adds emotion and style, unlike inexperience singers that always sing exactly on the beat and sound like robots.

  • Why do I hate this song? It just... annoys me... why is that? They're voices are so pretty.

  • @EYDstudios it's the wigs

  • @EYDstudios What was the point of this comment? !

  • @EYDstudios that makes no sense whatsoever

  • @iloveemoboys1231 THAT'S MY ISSUE!! UGH!!!

  • the best version ever :)

  • um woah. i don't know what i've gotten myself into, singing this song.

    amazing!

  • it doesn't get much better than that!

  • Andrea Rivette has such a killer voice.

  • My drama group is performing Jekyll and Hyde. Opening night tonight. wish us luck :) Louise and Steph play Emma and Lucy and they are AMAZING!! one of the best shows ever performed by Tredegar Operatic Society!! XD Can't wait!!!

  • BRAVA!! :D

  • yeouch at 3:33

  • great performance

but the woman who plays emma has a face like a duck :P

  • This version is different from what I'm used to (The original Alley Theatre recording)... but that's not really a bad thing. These girls voices are AMAZING.

  • @rubyqueen808 yea the Alley Theatre recording is so powerful - I can't handle the Broadway version compared to that.

  • hu blonda va drit stygg

  • Oh wow, this is like a music porn... their voices...incredible...amazing ladies :)

  • Andrea Rivette has such a badass mix it's unreal. If I didn't know better, I would almost assume it was a belt. Go her!

  • @Phentleman It's AMAZING. Rare, rare talent.

  • woah are you sure this isnt the dracula musical, just look at that chick!

  • @twizy123 this is deffo j and h though "that chick" if your referring to the brunette, was in dracula too

  • My friend and I are planning on performing this song for a school wide talent show in a few months and I have Emma's part. This won't be easy.

  • My drama school did this last month

  • The emma in this performance was really good.

  • where did the youtube video of Linda Eder singing IN HIS EYES disappear to?

  • Amazing! These two beautiful actresses/vocalists doing what they do best! You people that are claiming that they are butchering and messing it up... Remember, YOU are at HOME, THEY are up there on the STAGE! Why dont you get up there and show them how its done?

  • we're doing this musical in our school. (:

    i'm hoping to get a role.<3

  • Comment removed

  • This musical is amazing, I saw the brazilian version last week and it blew me away! But I cannot BELIEVE they actually cast Hasselhoff to play this part! He's terrible!

  • i'm sorry they absolutly butchered this beautiful song, with their word tempos to fast in places so slow in others and down right flat in a couple places. but they have beautiful voices. just not for this song

  • 2:50 is absolutely incredible. gave me goosebumps! great performance (:

  • Hey Loverr...yeah..its an F and its a mix/belt. Not fully chest but not legit either.

That's Emma in the white hitting the F...=)

  • the last harmony is so well balanced that i don't even know if the person on the top note is belting or mixing... is she? and that's a F... hard to belt but not impossible

  • Coleen, i love you!!!

  • unbelievably amazing

  • I love these two... they capture the characters and song so beautifully!!

  • Coleen, I love you haha! Everyone check out at 2:43 the female joker. no but really this is a great performance.

  • I love this song, but David Hasselhoff KILLS IT! hahah

  • @addiople the hoff is brilliant
