  • The proper efficient way to lose weight is to eat the same amount you usually eat, but burn more calories off than you have eaten, in the gym, or by working out. That way you will lose weight safely, feel good, and not have all the left over stretched skin after you've lost weight, which is what a diet will do to you. :)

  • What is your height weight and age? From that I can determine your base metabolic rate, (what you would burn in a day just living). If it's 4000 for you, which it probably is, you're actually losing weight because of walking around, even to the fridge burns calories. So like the top rated comment says, 4500 is a good estimate of your base metabolic rate 4000 + what you burn in a sedentary day 500. Add in exercise and make a bigger caloric deficit to lose weight faster.

    I work with professional trainers who have hundreds of clients around the world and I can guarantee you she is talking out of her ass.

    You only need 1600 to function.

    You need 2100 to be healthy (with at LEAST 30 min of GOOD CARDIO).

    Take out the fat, sugary carbs, refined carbs, sugary drinks.

    Then substitute with whole grains, fruits and high fiber foods.

    But the key is EXERCISE. People want to healthily lose weight by 'doing nothing'.

Calories are not all you count, you can eat 4000 calories a day of McDonalds and you would still keep the weight. You wanna change for real stop being lazy and invest in 3 things. 1) Good for you food 2) walking shoes 3) (when you begin to lose weight) a gym membership. I am sure the nutritionist did not say Ice Cream for breakfast....

  • SHE said 4000 calories a day because you probably eat like 10 000. On an average day I eat at least 3500 and I'm 240 lbs. I never go up and I never go down. It's because I lose a lb of weight (which IS 3500 calories) a day as well as eat it.

  • First off it depends on how many calories you were eating before you saw the nutritionist. Second, you need that many calories because of your metabolic rate. Since your weight is high, you burn more calories. You start off eating 4000 calories and exercise. You will lose weight. Once you have lost some weight, you decrease the amount of calories. Drink more water and eat more small meals. Your nutritionist was right.

  • @Aguacater87 Nope, couldn't be more wrong. Weight loss = calories in - calories out. It is a hell of a lot harder to burn off calories than it is to eat them. Eg. 1 tim tam contains about 100 calories. To burn off that 100 calories, you need to spend a good 10 - 15 minutes on the treadmill going at a moderate pace on an incline. What is easier? Not eating that tim-tam, or doing that amount of exercise? No doubt exercise has an important role, but a clean diet is essential.

  • @Chimpdaddy69 Look i live in Barcelona by the mediterranean, we have a great food culture and I eat properly everyday. i don't do diet by I never eat fried stuff for example, i don't drink sodas, or eat fast foods or whatever. I just exercise almost daily and hard. Doing that you don't need stupid diets. I started doing thai boxing and the first month I lose 5 kilograms when I wasn't even fat. Best way to lose weight is to be active, to eat properly but specially to be active.

    1. Your entire point is anecdotal evidence. You need peer-reviewed evidence. The fact is weight loss = calories in - calories out. You lost weight because you were expending more calories than you were eating. Like you said "you eat properly everyday". I guarantee if you started eating junk food (fast food, soda, chocolates) everyday, you would gain weight. Look at the numbers in my example before. Clean diet is far more important than exercise.

  • @Aguacater87 Exercise is important, no doubt. Going on 1200 calorie diets or less, is crazy, and people fail because they binge and gain the weight back. Healthy eating is more important, and I don't support any severe caloric restriction diet. However in terms of weight loss I stand by my statement diet is more important than exercise. You can do plenty of exercise, but if u eat like a pig, u will not lose weight. It is far easier to eat your calories than it is to burn them off.

  • You could easily lose weight on 4000 calories. But you need to eat the right calories. Eat 80 10 10 which is a low fat raw vegan approach to health and eating. You should consume about 1333 cal a meal of sweet fruit. Bananas and dates are the most dense calories wise. Then you will have the energy to exercise. Have a salad at the end of the day for nutrients. There is no such thing as emotional eating, you are just under carbed. Ditch dairy (ice cream wtf ?). Drink water. Get some sunlight.

  • If you ever want to get healthy you will need to eventually lower your calorie intake or increase your calories burned. Being sedentary and eating 4k calories a day won't work in the long run. In the short term, if done right, it could help you build some discipline about your diet...keeping a food journal, eating evenly throughout day, etc...so it isn't a horrible thing to start with. At your size you prob burn about 3500 cals a day just sitting there, so 4k is high imo but let us know.

  • i think the 4000cal a day is more of a way to start wieght loss than actually be some long term plan...if youre eating more than 4000 per day then you would be cutting back and using that as a stepping stone to cut back some more...say 3500 then 3000 until eventually you reach 2000 comfortably...i think thats more realistice than going from 4500 one day and then bam 1500 the next day...its too much of a change too soon and ends in just giving up...

  • @FinalMarin i know exactly what youre saying...i had exactly the same routine for a long time...i would wake up in the morning...smoke until 11am,then eat i meal...then smoke all the way until 7pm where id have my second meal then smoke until bed time....i almost never snacked..and had a can or so of cola (ragular) too but still now that i dont smoke i find myself more hungrier throughout the day...go figure

Also if he excersised with that it WOULD work, since you can burn more calories being over weight as well, since you heart rate is higher much easier. So idk 4000 is ALOT but if thats cutting calories back for him, it could work. I burn personally at 170, 3000 calories doing northing in a day, and probally another like 500-700 while sleeping, I have a monitor to test this. so idk

  • i know this is an older vid. but the reason why she told you so to eat that much is because any less would shock your body and it would go into starvation mode. the muscle you have would then be depleted and you wouldnt be losing actual fat. there is a big misconception that you have to go hungry to lose weight, but in order to lose fat and not muscle you actually have to eat more calories to keep your metabolism active and revved up. and good for you for trying to lose weight boogie!! <3

  • I find good diets are high protein and low carbs/sugar. With little carbs to burn, then your body will attack the fat and you will lose weight, but more importantly inches. This is called ketosis. When your body goes on a fat burning mode for a while or a long time. The protein will fill you up so you wont get that hungry. Two diets that are like this are: Ideal Protein and Atkins diet. I recommend them both.

Those kinds of diets are fantastic short-term, but if you try to do it for a long time, it will wreck your kidneys and heart. I don't know how much weight he wants to lose, but it's really only safe to go a couple pounds per week, so...

  • People are different. I eat a lot of food everyday, but I have a really high metabolism so I don't gain weight. But it's also hard for me to lose weight. You should walk around the park for an hour, and then do a quick jog everyday. Running is also easier when you're with a friend, so you can try that too. Eat whatever you want, but just eat less.

Ive been overweight for many many years. once I go through diet, I'm amazed by how is it it really is. in the 1st two weeks or a month I admit its fairly difficult, but after getting used to it I'm thinking. why haven't I did this a long time ago xD. I dropped from 265lb to about 180lb in less than a year. so, if you really doin it. good luck to you boogie, I'm sure you can do it too :D

Because ice cream is mostly sugar and saturated fat along with a bunch of simple carbs, it's going to spike your insulin, leading to your body starting to store fat. It's meals and eating habits like that that give you diabetes man. I don't want that for you. Take my advice. I've seen it kill. Eat all your calories in healthy strides. Peace.

It's not just about calories, insulin levels and everything else comes into play. Eating ice cream for breakfast would not help, due to the fact that it is a simple sugar spikes insulin levels which can hinder the ability for your metabolism to function properly throughout the day to help burnfat and lose weight. All i'm saying is cleaner foods could lead to more rapid fatloss

I am a food addict and emotional eater. So, what I recommend you is to quit all the processed crap. thats what makes us addicted to it. all the junk and fast food. eat nutrient filled foods, you will eat less and feel fuller. I say it first hand. eat fiber foods. fruits and vegetables. It WILL work. Best wishes!!!!

  • Actually that is probably right! I use spark people dot com to track my nutrition goals, and when I first went on it, I had to ADD calories, because I wasn't eating enough to lose weight. Starving yourself when you're a big person doesn't always help, cause your body will shut down it's fat burning processes. It obviously changes based on how much you weight, I currently need to eat between 1300 and 1600 calories a day to lose weight but when I started I needed to eat well over 2,000 calories!
