watch M4 Torture Test on vigilantspectre's channel & you'll change your mind about the "it jams every time" idea. Larry Vickers also has a torture test video on an M4. People who have actually worked with an AR system and make comments on youtube are easily identifiable by others who have owned one or have been issued one. Main reason I'd want to use an AK is budget. AKs should be inexpensive & ammo inexpensive as well. If you like to shoot that's extremely important.
UR WRONG. Here's y. Power is no difference between these 2 guns. both will kill u when placed in the right spot. the m16 has better accuracy meaning it will hit ur target unlike the ak 47. no point of power if u cant hit ur target. the only thing the ak 47 has is reliability. @desertboy7212 all the countries in the world lost in the vietnam war, because their money was based from gold, to taxes, it´s means the real money was not enough, the only winners were the weapons suppliers, all the countries in the world were broken and will be more broken, like today
Why so much fighting over which weapon is generally better? It all comes down on where to use which one.
For an absoluytely clean, peaceful, civilized and sterile firing range that provides no distractions and gives the possiblity to always clean and maintain your weapon and only has lifeless and still paper targets at 100+ meters I would pick the M-16.
For actual combat situation I would pick the AK-47.
Alright, there are only two reasons that the ak47 is still in use. its cheap and powerful, sure it's reliable under extreme circumstances but is it durable? No, because of the clanky operating system it's a very loose gun however, that same fact means the parts break easier due to usage. Basically it is the best throw away you can buy, once a part breaks you toss it on the side of the road.
@snogs11 The whole reason they issued the M16 in the first place was because the M14 was lacking firepower against the AK. The AK was a better short range infantry rifle. The M14 is a better sniper rifle though.
Why would anyone pick anything other than the AK-47. The fact that it rarely jams, and requires low maintenance should give it an uncontested edge over the M16. Besides, it did allow a small country such as "Vietnam" to beat the worlds strongest("paperweight" if you ask me) Nation.
Damn those weapon experts, it is clear that they never used ak. Under stress, in mud, sand or just in dark conditions it is much easier to switch ak to semi mode than full auto.
@XanderTuron The Russian Military still uses the AK-74, they have replaced the AKM's, the AN-94's are being used in small numbers, no outbreak any time soon.
@XanderTuron Thats Right, The Ak its like a Dirtcheap, more powerful gun with the highest reliability ever, the M 16 its accurate as hell and very hi tech beauty
the ak47 is better than the m16 send of if the m16 is so good why was it continuously updated until they created the m4 because its a half made gun its to unreliable its a good gun dont get me wrong but the ak47 is the better gun hence why is so widely produced used and preferred by many european and american troops.
@dnlcod3dnl again, it's not the m16 that can't penetrate...Furthermore, the newest 5.56 m855a1 round penetrates 3/8" of steel @ 350 meters. While steel core 7.62x39 will penetrate that same amount only out to 150 meters
@esh325 .458 socom and 50 beowulf have in fact been used. I was simply making a point that the modularity of the ar shouldn't be ignored, note the SABR: change uppers to go from a 12" to a 20" barrel in under a minute.
@DACFalloutRanger I didn't say they were never used, I said there use is very limited. You can switch it out fast, but I never heard of a soldier going into combat with two upper receivers. The modularity of the M16 is often not used more then used.
@bassmrdk also, let us not forget the modularity of the ar platform With chamberings like 50 beowulf, 6.8spc, 458 socom, 6x45mm, even 7.62x39...Essentially anything that can fit in the magazine well.
@DACFalloutRanger In a military context, that means squat because of logistical system. How many soldiers use 6x45mm and .50 beowulf in Iraq or Afghanistan? They also would have to worry about a whole new upper, different parts, and magazines, etc.
@bassmradk the 7.62x39 barely made it through, and we weren't shown how far the 223 penetrated. Bear in mind: most current ak variants use 5.45x39
7.62x39 flies like a turkey and is done at about 500 yards, while the 223 matches it's kinetic energy from 300 yards to the end of it's effective range at about 750 yards.
Vastly superior projectiles offered for the 223 (note the all-steel copper jacketed ammunition being fielded) that give far better ballistics.
In real life m16 is better.. rifle...most of them says m16 is not realiable weapon because they only see it in youtube comment,,but in real life m16 is better even in any weather condition,,,but you must maintain to clean it..e
God id like to slap that guy shooting the ak no wonder he can't hit the paper anywhere on target @200y slapping the trigger! my DI would slap me if I did that! he's like a 12 year old kid shooting for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the 16 turned into a great gun after early problems from the wiz kids at johnsons white house!
I have a friend who has in Vietnam, he's a nice guy and all but is infected with agent orange (sucks to be him). Anyway when he first came to Nam he used an M14, and he said he loved it. But they took the M14 away from him and gave himn an M16.It jammed on him so he took an AK-47 off one of the NVA he had shot (said the guy wasn't happy about it) and used it for about two months. Then he started to use the M16 again. This is what he basically told me: M16=Shit
@dnlcod3dnl in a nutshell A carbine is a small sized automatic weapon that has a shorter barrel. Carbines are mostly used by Western militaries because they are easy to manoeuvr in small and narrow areas and they are lighter than normal full legnth assault rifles.
They perform similarly to their larger full length counterparts but because of the shorter barrel, you'd expect a lower velocity round. Some carbines are SMG's but in terms of performance, they do not perform as well as carbine rifles.
You are no idoit other my good man. I actually know what I'm talking about. I would like to say that the AK-47 was made in 1947 and started being used in 1949. The M16 was made in 1957 and became the U.S. Army's standard rifle in 1963. So the M16 has 10 years on the AK-47.
For two years i have been non stop with my AK and i can tell you that the AK is very very acurate, dont fall for this bull, it has recoil but it only comes out on full auto, no one shoots on auto for long range, on semi it is spot on, i know that it would be cool for the AK to have a weakness but no...sorry
AK-47: High muzzle climb (recoil), inaccurate, low range, low rate of fire, cheap, mid-high damage, reliable, simple, very heavy. Made of wood and metal.
M16: High rate of fire, almost NO recoil, very accurate, mid-weight, mid-price, once jammed due to ball powder, once replaced with original powder didn't jam much, mid-high damage, long. Made up of steel alloy and plastic.
@dnlcod3dnl Why do you rank both guns "mid-high" damage when the AK clearly has A LOT more damage? I'd probably have chosen the M16 too, but you clearly made the AK worse then it is and the M16 better then it is.
Plus the rate of fire is useless information if you can kill with one bullet PLUS you forgot to mention the close-combat con on the AK.
@DACFalloutRanger Did you watch the whole film? To save you some time, later in the video the AK smashed a stone while the M16 made a tiny hole in it.
@dnlcod3dnl Where have you seen or read that? Cause I once saw on NG that the biggest con of the M16 was that you had to get a pin point accurate shot for it to kill with one bullet.
@dnlcod3dnl Hate to break it to you buddy but you still have to clean the hell out of an M4 or an AR15. My AR has to be cleaned completely every 300 - 500 rounds. My AK? Think I've cleaned the bore twice. With gas piston kits and other accessories you can definitely bump up the reliability of an M4 but not enough where I'd bet my life on it. The main reason that an AK isn't accurate is the round. The best answer I've seen so far is the AK 74(shoots 5.45x39) or the AK101 (shoots 5.56)
@dnlcod3dnl the ak-47 is accurate you just have to be a good aim good shooters can easily hit human sized targets at 300 yards and that's good enough people don't give fucking credit to it's accuracy you only would know if you actually shot one i have and i easily hit things at 100 yards mostly because my hands were shaking like fuck because i shot the mosin nagant for the first time
@dnlcod3dnl AK 74M; No muzzle climb, less recoil than M4, 3MOA accuracy, effective to 500m, highest reliability, weighs 7.5 ibs, 37.1'' long stock extended, 27.6'' stock folded, 650rpm, 16'' Hammer forged, chromelined barrel, 5.45x39 offers a more tapered cartridge giving more reliabilty in feeding chambering and extraction. comes with four magazines bayo stripper clips and cleaning kit made of polymer and steel. government price, $160 USD
High technology rules my ass. Ak-47 is a legend and will remain the best weapon ever created on this Planet. The Elite Russian Forces (Spetsnaz) are using Ak-47 as their normal weapon and they are the best forces in the world. M16 is just a kid toy and you can't kill a Spetsnaz soldier with it, you really can't. M16 is used for hunting ducks and Ak-47 for hunting elephants.
@Raddin619 Wait I have a question?Spetsnaz still use the AK-47? I thought they preferred the AK-74 and wouldn't they use newer AK based weapons or no?
@ibilliedyourmomhard that's true. Spetsnaz uses AK-74 but that's a submachine gun. Ak-47 is an assault rifle and it is still used by the russian army. The Spetsnaz are for special operations and they use AK-74 but that's built on the same AK-47 principle. so the Ak-47 is a base weapon which can be upgraded for better use, but the reliability is the same.
@Raddin619 I get now and I know the AK-74 fires the 5.45x39 which would be the submachine gun variant of the AK-47 7.62x39 assault rifle but I was just thinking the Spetsnaz would use more modern AK variant weapons but whatever
@ibilliedyourmomhard spetsnaz is the special forces like green berets, SEALS, SAS... but yeah they use the AK-200 or will use it soon looks like the Russians designed the same weapon that works even better, higher ROF, accuracy, range(maybe), but trust me like we see the ak47 compete with m16 and its variants, we will see the ak200 compete with FN-SCARs, which is the most likely replacement of the m4
If the AK-47 is so much better, then why did the United States win virtually every battle in the Vietnam War? The war that pitted the two weapons against each other. The AK-47 has and always will be the weapon of the less skilled because of it's clear simplicity and ease of use.
@luckey313 Rifles don't win wars. In the Spanish-American war, the Spanish had a Mauser rifle which was superior to the trapdoor springfield, yet American still won.
I never said they win wars. In fact, the Americans lost the Vietnam War. However, if you read my comment, I did say they won virtually every battle, and rifles do win battles. Fact.
@luckey313 And rifles aren't the only determining factor in winning a battle. The other side didn't have things like agent orange, helicopter support, and over whelming air superiority, etc.
But they did have numbers. Despite our advanced technology, they had thousands of soldiers more per conflict. That means they had the ability to overwhelm us when the air support was unavailable (restocking, etc.), except they could not because we could suppress them easily until more support arrived.
@luckey313 well the gun doesn't shoot itself, soldier fires the rifle soo..vietnamese are pretty much untrained soldier, their main quality and advantage was fighting spirit, americans have more tactical knowledge..m-16 is advanced rifle but if i'm in a battle i'd choose ak-47 'cause it can't be that much difference in accuracy,i thin it blow out of proportions..but all in all it's 90% in the shooter's abilities and 10% is gun
Did you watch this video? In this test and similar videos, the AK-47 had unquestionably terrible accuracy. On one episode of Lock n' Load, they had a firing test between the two rifles. The AK-47 could barely get on the target, even in bursts. The M-16 went fully automatic and stayed on the target almost the entire time.
@luckey313 I hate to interrupt your flame war, but for one, in this show, they had two different people shooting the rifles. Had they let the guy who shot the M16 shoot the AK, the results might have been slightly different. Plus Lock and Load's test was so horribly biased. The AK featured in that show initially had a muzzle brake, but for the accuracy test, they used a different AK, WITHOUT a muzzle brake. Plus I have seen people shoot AK's accurately at 230+ yards.
@crazeecoondog well about the m16 it coule even kill one shot to the body and one headshot to the helmet about youtube comments people here are retarded
Being a proud owner of an AK, I have the best of both world's. My AK is chambered in 5.56x45 (.223) Extremely accurate, shoots all types of ammo cheap or good, and is extremely reliable. 7.62 vs 5.56 its a difficult debate, but lets be real here, the 7.62 is just a damn equivalent of a shotgun slug with more accuracy(even more w/ a proper scope) , this bullet is just power moving through the air waiting to stop and if your in the way you are done. It is what it is, accept it!
@crazeecoondog and everyone needs accuracy comrade not only pure firepower alone if you want to pick up an enemy soldier with a sniper rifle which one would you choose?
@crazeecoondog well i am not going to scream like every other kid out there so im just going to say if you got hit by a bike going 50 mph. you wont feel alot. if you got hit by a bus at 5o mph. your dead. this is what i mean. heavier bullet+more internal damage. 5.56 rounds make perfect holes. 7.62 destroys what it hits. thats what i am trying to say.
AR and AK are both great weapons. AK rules at close range and AR wins at medium and long. AK has lots of penatration which can be good or bad. AR has super-fast shot to shot recovery time which is handy in close quarters with many targets. Limiting yourself to one or the other is stupid. Use both and get good with both and all your bases are covered.
One more thing the m16 is accurate but weak. The AK all it requires is a sight adjustment put in on target and fire and you have just beheaded a dude.
Well I would say ak47. It has been modernized too. Also the stupid people below this comment have no brain. Its the shooter not the gun. Fire the ak47 its accurate it just kicks. With it will be controlled. It's high velocity high power, and reliable. M16 is a jamming pea shooter in comparison. Just learn to shoot and the AK is frickin deadly
Again, while the AK is an excellent weapon, I'd like to see the side by side trials of it against an M14 (M1A) type rifle. I would bet the full auto accuracy of both would be approximate, with the upper hand tending toward the AK. However, I doubt there would be any deficiency in penetration /knock down power, with the advantage going to the M14/M1A platform. And I seriously doubt one would better the other in reliability.
@Frans1Wanksta no the round jams the gun it used older ball powder instead of stick powder, you see ball powder fowls up the gun by leaving behind some powder substance in the rifling and gears and also when moisture gets in the to the casing it causes the powder to stick together and can cause a dud
@Frans1Wanksta A lot of soldiers would pick up an AK as soon as they cou;d in Nam. But there have been design changes and the M16 doesn't jam anymore. The jamming issue came from different grain powder being used for testing and for combat.
The AK is low tech weapon difficult to control when fired semi or Auto very heavy its not easy to handle it has horrible accuracy the good thing about the AK its damage and Reliability and it's cost. The M-16 is a High tech weapon its very lightweight very easy handle 12 year old boy can handle it its recoil is very low it's very accurate and its damage is good becasue the 5.56 NATO round has deadly when it strike's human flesh it tumbles which causes it mense wound damage with deadly effects
@Pyte98 the liquid thing on the helmet is standard issue bug repellent that had like 40% feet it's strong stuff can clean permanent marker ink off a white board.
@MrMrdeerhunter No, it's not because it's american it's the best, remember there are other is a world leading rifle manufacturers. The fn scar from Fabrique Nationale in Belgium is probably better than the M16.
The MODERN M16 is really reliable. Still not has much as the ak, but the percentage of jamming is much much lower. Reliability+High Accuracy+Low Weight = M16 Win. AK is more powerful, but whats the point if you cant hit(or have a fatal shot) a target over 200 meters?
@DrAstrophysics With a squad full of AK, you'll always need a sniper to go with you, whereas the M16, no! You pick a sniper out of the window before a sniper can pick you, with an M16A2/A4.
From a defensive standpoint--I want a rifle that can serve multiple purposes if need be...I want to engage the enemy as far as possible and still be able to lay lead down in CQB....This makes the M16 variants more lethal than a weapon system thats only deadly inside of 200 meters. Since i wouldnt take a offensive standpoint and hope to be far from anywhere if SHTF---The AR15 takes the cake for a multi purpose weapon system...No jungles near me anyway...LOL
Everyone! I hate to tell you this but the reason the m-16 misfired in vietnam was because the soldiers tampered with the receiver to slow down the rate of fire and besides the ak-47 is a little out dated
Having fired both rifles, I still prefer my M16A2 over the AK. There's something to be said about actually hitting the target. With the M16, I can put three rounds into the center of the target with a group that you can cover with a dime. With the AK, I couldn't even hit the target at the same range.. As for jamming, the current version of the M16 is as reliable as they get. I've fired one that was dragged through a swamp and not cleaned for days. It still worked.
AK=less cartridges carried, heavier, difficult to control, nearly impossible to use by some one with upper extremity injury, I'd like to see somebody with a broken wrist or collarbone use an AK effectively, less suitable for add-ons e.g. scopes, launchers, more time to change magazines, safety awkward position. Definitely not for something like police work. I'd go with AR if I had all the resources I wanted, if I knew I wasn't going to have any oil etc. I'd get a Galil.
@oeyesea you dont fire your weapon with an injury, you call a medic, so that you survive. Scopes can be mounted easily, GLs also. There are even rail-systems.
The M-16 is very confusing... Why they designed a long range rifle without scope, that can't penetrates thick wood to use in the jungle, if everything is 20 to 50 yards away and mostly your enemy is hidden behind a tree. That's was the job of the M14 I guess. Is the M14 that it's better than AK-47, not the M16.
@lorddinaire The M16 is not confusing at all. The modern versions do feature a scope. Most warfare is not fought at 20 to 50 yards unless it is within cities; which we tend to avoid due to civilian casualties. Often our reaction to enemy fire comes from several hundred metres out; and the M16 is more than capable of standing up to the AK.
@xFogxofxWarx . Sorry to say, but if you analyze the context in which the M-16, appears ( Viet-Nam war), the whole concept is at least confusing. let me ask you this. I f you are going to live and fight in the jungle, where everything is mud, dust and dirt and nothing is beyond 50 yards and it's hidden behind a tree, what will be your choice..AK-47 or M-16?.. Not other, just those two..I guess is simple..
@lorddinaire Vietnam is long gone buddy. I wouldn't trade in my C7A2 (M16A2) for an AK any day; be it jungle or open terrain. There is nothing confusing about it. The first time I field stripped the M16; I had it reassembled in 23 seconds. The first time I reassembled an AK from the field Strip took twice as long. Under no circumstances would I ever choose the AK over the M16; no matter where the fight.
@lorddinaire The M16 does not jam; it is reliable. The 5.56 is capable of penetrating wood. Thick trees can stop even a 7.62; so the AK will not make it through dense jungles either. The AK's cocking handle is on the right hand side; making it impracticle for right handed shooters; you either have to take you hand off the pistol grip; and thus the trigger (a big no no); or cant the rifle, taking your point of aim off. It is also easier to reload the M16. I've handled both; and I go with the M16.
@xFogxofxWarx . I noticed that you are a well informed person. I wonder if you can give me your opinion about this video in youtube: M16 Blows up in Kids Face.
@lorddinaire Seen it; they are idiots. When you cock the weapon like a pussy; that'll happen. It's not the M16...any weapon can do that in the hands of a moron.
Like I have said in other posts; I have fired more rounds through a Canadian issued C7A2 (M16A2) than most people will fire in any weapon in their life; and not once have I had a stoppage of any sort.
It seems like most people here (kids) learned about guns playing video games. Come to the range with me, try out an AK and an AR and see how you feel about the M-16 and Kalashnikov designs. Stats, opinions, and little differences go out the window when you can feel the steel in your hands and burned gunpowder in your nostrils. When your life, or the life of a fellow soldier lays in your hands, can you trust yourself (regardless of weapon) to hit what you are aiming at? You don't choose the fight
Both weapons have good & bad points in their own right but if it came down 2 survival & bein able 2 come out of a situation with a fighting chance, i'd take the ak over the m16 any day, it is a well known fact that the ak WILL fire dirty or clean unlike the m16 ( deadman's rifle ), Just my opinion :)
THE AN-94, a direct desendant of the AK-47, is the most technelogically andvanced assault rifle in the world. just goes to show, if something doesnt need fixin dont change it.
The M16 compared to the AK-47 can't be compared well. They were made for different reasons and each have qualities of there own. Ak-47 is rugged, reliable, and simple. M16 is accurate, high tech, and capable of longer firing periods because of the lighter ammo. The original M16 needed work and has now evolved into the M16A4 which is much better. There are now also other variants of AK's.
Why doesn't the American Army just freakin do like they did in WW2 and have multiple weapons so everyone's happy? That would be suuuuuuperrrrrbbbbb. Have the deadly AK's go in for the closer engagements while the M16's provide accurate cover fire. Jeez, do I have to think of everything?!
The last phrases are true: an AK in the hands of trained Russian Army are deadlier than any M16 or M4. Newer guns are developed constantly and the AK-47 has lost its pace with them, but you should check the AN-94, which is in the same league with great rifles like G-36, M4, SCAR, you name it. ;)
M16 is better for today's combat. It's more accurate as they said and when your on the streets getting fired at yards and yards away that's important. Also when you fire a rifle like the M16 that shoots a 5.56 mm the round tumbles. So when it hits you it rips all your tissue to pieces. You would die. And I would take it over anything because of that.
@softly93, maybe a few cm's more accurate. It won't matter that the M16 shoots a few cm's tighter on somebodys chest. You use the word tumbling like the 5.56x45 was the first round to ever do that when all spitzer shaped rifle rounds will tumble. The 5.56mm more often then not leaves wounds similar to a .22 LR. The 7.62x39 is much more lethal.
The comparison in these videos is pretty fair, both weapons were designed with different objectives in mind and both met them.
About the test with bullet penetration, that's more of comparing the 5.56mm round against the 7.62mm round, rather than comparing the M16 design against the AK47 design. Although not common at the time (for the Vietnam comparisons), now it's pretty easy to have an M16/AR15 fire anything from a 6.8mm to a .50 cal.
watch M4 Torture Test on vigilantspectre's channel & you'll change your mind about the "it jams every time" idea.

@XanderTuron The Russian Military still uses the AK-74, they have replaced the AKM's, the AN-94's are being used in small numbers, no outbreak any time soon.
bazookajoethethird 5 months ago
@XanderTuron Thats Right, The Ak its like a Dirtcheap, more powerful gun with the highest reliability ever, the M 16 its accurate as hell and very hi tech beauty
short range = Ak
long range = m 16
elrockerchido 5 months ago
the ak47 is better than the m16 send of if the m16 is so good why was it continuously updated until they created the m4 because its a half made gun its to unreliable its a good gun dont get me wrong but the ak47 is the better gun hence why is so widely produced used and preferred by many european and american troops.

DACFalloutRanger 5 months ago
@dnlcod3dnl again, it's not the m16 that can't penetrate...Furthermore, the newest 5.56 m855a1 round penetrates 3/8" of steel @ 350 meters. While steel core 7.62x39 will penetrate that same amount only out to 150 meters

DACFalloutRanger 6 months ago
@esh325 .458 socom and 50 beowulf have in fact been used. I was simply making a point that the modularity of the ar shouldn't be ignored, note the SABR: change uppers to go from a 12" to a 20" barrel in under a minute.
DACFalloutRanger 6 months ago
@DACFalloutRanger I didn't say they were never used, I said there use is very limited. You can switch it out fast, but I never heard of a soldier going into combat with two upper receivers. The modularity of the M16 is often not used more then used.

The only aluminium on them is the charging handle. They are made of steel not aluminium. I know; because I use one for a living.
xFogxofxWarx by this comment you obviously know nothing about an m16...the lower receiver "the main part of the rifle" is aluminium
MrUtubegunner 6 months ago
@bassmrdk also, let us not forget the modularity of the ar platform With chamberings like 50 beowulf, 6.8spc, 458 socom, 6x45mm, even 7.62x39...Essentially anything that can fit in the magazine well.
DACFalloutRanger 6 months ago
@DACFalloutRanger In a military context, that means squat because of logistical system. How many soldiers use 6x45mm and .50 beowulf in Iraq or Afghanistan? They also would have to worry about a whole new upper, different parts, and magazines, etc.
esh325 6 months ago
@bassmradk the 7.62x39 barely made it through, and we weren't shown how far the 223 penetrated. Bear in mind: most current ak variants use 5.45x39
7.62x39 flies like a turkey and is done at about 500 yards, while the 223 matches it's kinetic energy from 300 yards to the end of it's effective range at about 750 yards.
Vastly superior projectiles offered for the 223 (note the all-steel copper jacketed ammunition being fielded) that give far better ballistics.

AK-47=Bigger piece of Shit
dnlcod3dnl 6 months ago
Guys the AK-74 is not a SMG. The AKS-74 is.
dnlcod3dnl 6 months ago
@dnlcod3dnl It is not... It is actually a carbine assault rifle. People don't actually know that.
lethalbullet1 3 weeks ago
@lethalbullet1 What's a carbine? It's been a while since I posted.
dnlcod3dnl 5 days ago

For two years i have been non stop with my AK and i can tell you that the AK is very very acurate, dont fall for this bull, it has recoil but it only comes out on full auto, no one shoots on auto for long range, on semi it is spot on, i know that it would be cool for the AK to have a weakness but no...sorry
ivanovsd 7 months ago
AK-47: High muzzle climb (recoil), inaccurate, low range, low rate of fire, cheap, mid-high damage, reliable, simple, very heavy. Made of wood and metal.
M16: High rate of fire, almost NO recoil, very accurate, mid-weight, mid-price, once jammed due to ball powder, once replaced with original powder didn't jam much, mid-high damage, long. Made up of steel alloy and plastic.
Most upgraded versions:
AK-47=AKMSN
M16=M16A4
If I had to choose, I would pick the M16.

Keichwoud357 5 months ago
@dnlcod3dnl Hate to break it to you buddy but you still have to clean the hell out of an M4 or an AR15. My AR has to be cleaned completely every 300 - 500 rounds. My AK? Think I've cleaned the bore twice. With gas piston kits and other accessories you can definitely bump up the reliability of an M4 but not enough where I'd bet my life on it. The main reason that an AK isn't accurate is the round. The best answer I've seen so far is the AK 74(shoots 5.45x39) or the AK101 (shoots 5.56)
themerrygambit 5 months ago
@themerrygambit Also the lack of muzzle velocity, which the AK-47 lacks.
dnlcod3dnl 5 months ago
@dnlcod3dnl the ak-47 is accurate you just have to be a good aim good shooters can easily hit human sized targets at 300 yards and that's good enough people don't give fucking credit to it's accuracy you only would know if you actually shot one i have and i easily hit things at 100 yards mostly because my hands were shaking like fuck because i shot the mosin nagant for the first time

Raddin619 8 months ago
@Raddin619 Wait I have a question?Spetsnaz still use the AK-47? I thought they preferred the AK-74 and wouldn't they use newer AK based weapons or no?
ibilliedyourmomhard 7 months ago
@ibilliedyourmomhard that's true. Spetsnaz uses AK-74 but that's a submachine gun. Ak-47 is an assault rifle and it is still used by the russian army. The Spetsnaz are for special operations and they use AK-74 but that's built on the same AK-47 principle. so the Ak-47 is a base weapon which can be upgraded for better use, but the reliability is the same.
Raddin619 7 months ago
@Raddin619 I get now and I know the AK-74 fires the 5.45x39 which would be the submachine gun variant of the AK-47 7.62x39 assault rifle but I was just thinking the Spetsnaz would use more modern AK variant weapons but whatever
ibilliedyourmomhard 7 months ago
@ibilliedyourmomhard spetsnaz is the special forces like green berets, SEALS, SAS... but yeah they use the AK-200 or will use it soon looks like the Russians designed the same weapon that works even better, higher ROF, accuracy, range(maybe), but trust me like we see the ak47 compete with m16 and its variants, we will see the ak200 compete with FN-SCARs, which is the most likely replacement of the m4

PURE AMERICAN PROPAGANDA,AK-47 wins all the way...
CroPride7 8 months ago
@CroPride7
If the AK-47 is so much better, then why did the United States win virtually every battle in the Vietnam War? The war that pitted the two weapons against each other. The AK-47 has and always will be the weapon of the less skilled because of it's clear simplicity and ease of use.
luckey313 8 months ago
@luckey313 Rifles don't win wars. In the Spanish-American war, the Spanish had a Mauser rifle which was superior to the trapdoor springfield, yet American still won.
esh325 8 months ago
@esh325
I never said they win wars. In fact, the Americans lost the Vietnam War. However, if you read my comment, I did say they won virtually every battle, and rifles do win battles. Fact.
luckey313 8 months ago
@luckey313 And rifles aren't the only determining factor in winning a battle. The other side didn't have things like agent orange, helicopter support, and over whelming air superiority, etc.
esh325 8 months ago
@esh325
But they did have numbers. Despite our advanced technology, they had thousands of soldiers more per conflict. That means they had the ability to overwhelm us when the air support was unavailable (restocking, etc.), except they could not because we could suppress them easily until more support arrived.
luckey313 8 months ago
@luckey313 well the gun doesn't shoot itself, soldier fires the rifle soo..vietnamese are pretty much untrained soldier, their main quality and advantage was fighting spirit, americans have more tactical knowledge..m-16 is advanced rifle but if i'm in a battle i'd choose ak-47 'cause it can't be that much difference in accuracy,i thin it blow out of proportions..but all in all it's 90% in the shooter's abilities and 10% is gun
CroPride7 7 months ago
@CroPride7
Did you watch this video? In this test and similar videos, the AK-47 had unquestionably terrible accuracy. On one episode of Lock n' Load, they had a firing test between the two rifles. The AK-47 could barely get on the target, even in bursts. The M-16 went fully automatic and stayed on the target almost the entire time.
luckey313 7 months ago
@luckey313 I hate to interrupt your flame war, but for one, in this show, they had two different people shooting the rifles. Had they let the guy who shot the M16 shoot the AK, the results might have been slightly different. Plus Lock and Load's test was so horribly biased. The AK featured in that show initially had a muzzle brake, but for the accuracy test, they used a different AK, WITHOUT a muzzle brake. Plus I have seen people shoot AK's accurately at 230+ yards.

FelixM1985 9 months ago
@crazeecoondog and everyone needs accuracy comrade not only pure firepower alone if you want to pick up an enemy soldier with a sniper rifle which one would you choose?
dimitboris 9 months ago
@crazeecoondog well i am not going to scream like every other kid out there so im just going to say if you got hit by a bike going 50 mph. you wont feel alot. if you got hit by a bus at 5o mph. your dead. this is what i mean. heavier bullet+more internal damage. 5.56 rounds make perfect holes. 7.62 destroys what it hits. thats what i am trying to say.
TheCrazyTman 10 months ago
@TheCrazyTman Perfect holes huh? Maybe you should do some research on that. The professionals seem to disagree with your thesis.
tadracket 9 months ago
AR and AK are both great weapons. AK rules at close range and AR wins at medium and long. AK has lots of penatration which can be good or bad. AR has super-fast shot to shot recovery time which is handy in close quarters with many targets. Limiting yourself to one or the other is stupid. Use both and get good with both and all your bases are covered.
tru7hmnb 10 months ago
@crazeecoondog nobody cares dude. the ak 47's bullet is still more devastating as in its will destroy your internals due to more weitght.

One more thing the m16 is accurate but weak. The AK all it requires is a sight adjustment put in on target and fire and you have just beheaded a dude.
TheCrazyTman 10 months ago
Well I would say ak47. It has been modernized too. Also the stupid people below this comment have no brain. Its the shooter not the gun. Fire the ak47 its accurate it just kicks. With it will be controlled. It's high velocity high power, and reliable. M16 is a jamming pea shooter in comparison. Just learn to shoot and the AK is frickin deadly
TheCrazyTman 10 months ago
Again, while the AK is an excellent weapon, I'd like to see the side by side trials of it against an M14 (M1A) type rifle. I would bet the full auto accuracy of both would be approximate, with the upper hand tending toward the AK. However, I doubt there would be any deficiency in penetration /knock down power, with the advantage going to the M14/M1A platform. And I seriously doubt one would better the other in reliability.

Frans1Wanksta 1 year ago 3
@Frans1Wanksta no the round jams the gun it used older ball powder instead of stick powder, you see ball powder fowls up the gun by leaving behind some powder substance in the rifling and gears and also when moisture gets in the to the casing it causes the powder to stick together and can cause a dud
omgwaffels96 7 months ago
@Frans1Wanksta A lot of soldiers would pick up an AK as soon as they cou;d in Nam. But there have been design changes and the M16 doesn't jam anymore. The jamming issue came from different grain powder being used for testing and for combat.

DrAstrophysics 1 year ago
@DrAstrophysics With a squad full of AK, you'll always need a sniper to go with you, whereas the M16, no! You pick a sniper out of the window before a sniper can pick you, with an M16A2/A4.
Marine17inlove 1 year ago
From a defensive standpoint--I want a rifle that can serve multiple purposes if need be...I want to engage the enemy as far as possible and still be able to lay lead down in CQB....This makes the M16 variants more lethal than a weapon system thats only deadly inside of 200 meters. Since i wouldnt take a offensive standpoint and hope to be far from anywhere if SHTF---The AR15 takes the cake for a multi purpose weapon system...No jungles near me anyway...LOL
Jeenyus1983 1 year ago

dimitboris 1 year ago
Having fired both rifles, I still prefer my M16A2 over the AK. There's something to be said about actually hitting the target. With the M16, I can put three rounds into the center of the target with a group that you can cover with a dime. With the AK, I couldn't even hit the target at the same range.. As for jamming, the current version of the M16 is as reliable as they get. I've fired one that was dragged through a swamp and not cleaned for days. It still worked.
sunsetarts 1 year ago
AK=less cartridges carried, heavier, difficult to control, nearly impossible to use by some one with upper extremity injury, I'd like to see somebody with a broken wrist or collarbone use an AK effectively, less suitable for add-ons e.g. scopes, launchers, more time to change magazines, safety awkward position. Definitely not for something like police work. I'd go with AR if I had all the resources I wanted, if I knew I wasn't going to have any oil etc. I'd get a Galil.

The M-16 is very confusing... Why they designed a long range rifle without scope, that can't penetrates thick wood to use in the jungle, if everything is 20 to 50 yards away and mostly your enemy is hidden behind a tree. That's was the job of the M14 I guess. Is the M14 that it's better than AK-47, not the M16.
lorddinaire 1 year ago
@lorddinaire The M16 is not confusing at all. The modern versions do feature a scope. Most warfare is not fought at 20 to 50 yards unless it is within cities; which we tend to avoid due to civilian casualties. Often our reaction to enemy fire comes from several hundred metres out; and the M16 is more than capable of standing up to the AK.
xFogxofxWarx 1 year ago
@xFogxofxWarx . Sorry to say, but if you analyze the context in which the M-16, appears ( Viet-Nam war), the whole concept is at least confusing. let me ask you this. I f you are going to live and fight in the jungle, where everything is mud, dust and dirt and nothing is beyond 50 yards and it's hidden behind a tree, what will be your choice..AK-47 or M-16?.. Not other, just those two..I guess is simple..
lorddinaire 1 year ago
@lorddinaire Vietnam is long gone buddy. I wouldn't trade in my C7A2 (M16A2) for an AK any day; be it jungle or open terrain. There is nothing confusing about it. The first time I field stripped the M16; I had it reassembled in 23 seconds. The first time I reassembled an AK from the field Strip took twice as long. Under no circumstances would I ever choose the AK over the M16; no matter where the fight.
xFogxofxWarx 1 year ago
@xFogxofxWarx O.K. At least you know what are you talking about. Thanks for your feedback.
lorddinaire 1 year ago
@lorddinaire The M16 does not jam; it is reliable. The 5.56 is capable of penetrating wood. Thick trees can stop even a 7.62; so the AK will not make it through dense jungles either. The AK's cocking handle is on the right hand side; making it impracticle for right handed shooters; you either have to take you hand off the pistol grip; and thus the trigger (a big no no); or cant the rifle, taking your point of aim off. It is also easier to reload the M16. I've handled both; and I go with the M16.

M16 is horrible. It jams if only a tip of sand penetrates it. You want M16 to fire, you need to clean it 3 times a day. AK 47 is a beast.

@understas that was the old m16 the newer ones are very durable

I prefer the M16's accuracy and range over the AK47's power and simplicity, but they're both good guns
cdawgtv2 1 year ago
@cdawgtv2 If you want accuracy, power and simplicity get the PSL-54c. It's an AK-47
with the accuracy of a Mosin Nagant. (1000 yards)

THE AN-94, a direct desendant of the AK-47, is the most technelogically andvanced assault rifle in the world. just goes to show, if something doesnt need fixin dont change it.
motlencore89 1 year ago

WTFisAuserFRCKINname 1 year ago
The AK-47 the real weapon of mass destruction
LAND37 1 year ago

And I would take it over anything because of that.
softly93 1 year ago
@softly93, maybe a few cm's more accurate. It won't matter that the M16 shoots a few cm's tighter on somebodys chest. You use the word tumbling like the 5.56x45 was the first round to ever do that when all spitzer shaped rifle rounds will tumble. The 5.56mm more often then not leaves wounds similar to a .22 LR. The 7.62x39 is much more lethal.

Comparison isn't necessary...the M-16 is an epic fail, and has been since inception. Eugene Stoner should have been tried for treason.

M16 was horrible in Vietnam. The enemies wouldn't pick up the guns, despite the fact they were under equipped.
armchairmaster 1 year ago
The comparison in these videos is pretty fair, both weapons were designed with different objectives in mind and both met them.
About the test with bullet penetration, that's more of comparing the 5.56mm round against the 7.62mm round, rather than comparing the M16 design against the AK47 design. Although not common at the time (for the Vietnam comparisons), now it's pretty easy to have an M16/AR15 fire anything from a 6.8mm to a .50 cal.
