  • This thing sounds bad ass....a lot like a high end Yairi.

  • Hey guy - I just sent you a video response. I ran across this video about a week ago and the little lick at the beginning inspired me to come up with a song. Hope you like it!

  • Tone sounds awesome and you sound damn good yourself. What's the name of that tune.

  • Great playing, nice guitar! ("Hold on a minute...")

  • Beautiful

  • Beautiful guitar, both visually and tonally. I had a D-60 for a couple years. Definitely the prettiest guitar I've ever owned - IMHO there is no beating Larrivee for fit and finish. I ultimately sold it, though, as I tend to prefer mahogany.

  • Great playing man! Great sounding guitar too!!! What was that, "pretty polly?"

  • Very nice! Why Larrivee over a Gibson, Martin or Taylor?

  • @1Ronners

Hi I chose the Larrivee as the cost was way cheaper than gibson or martin plus I own a martin D-35 already and a handbuilt Rosewood Dreadnaught that sounds as good or better than any D-28 martin I've ever played

  • Nice !!

  • Nice tone. Crisp on the first three strings and good bass. Sweet guitar and you play well. I have a Santa Cruz H-body. I had a friend offer me a Larrivee from 1957 and the only thing wrong with it was the pick guard had come unglued. He wanted $700 for it. I wish I'd bought it. It sounded like a vintage Martin.

  • @craigschirato Did they make Larrivee guitars in 1957?

  • Great!!

  • @BluegrassRules1973 So how is this guitar sounding 3 years later? Is the sound getting better/changing much? Also what's the bass response like compared to your custom rosewood dread? Any plans for any new vids anytime soon? Thanks

  • I was using Elixir Nanoweb Mediums I think they were 11-56 gauges? I can't remember it's been a while! Thanks for watching and for the great comments

  • hi this is amazing what guage strings are you using anything special? this is amazing the sound quality and how loud it plays is amazing. great playing.

  • i would love to know what strings you are using on this baby. really good tone, larrivee are up there with the best guitar makers. have to say would love one of those or a fylde guitar some day. nice playing

  • @tartan024

Owned a 1977 Flyde Falstaff in the late '90s for a couple of years, nice guitar, but I would have a Larrivee anyday over it - currently have three Larrivees - OM9, C09 andan TSB SD50. all fantasctic instruments. the first two I use12s, 13s on the SD50

  • these things are cannons

  • Very nice sound and playing! You make it seem easy.

  • Very good =)

  • Guitars are like snow flakes and the D-50 is no exception. I played a few in stores that were mediocre, then I found one that was absolutely terrific. I bought it and just love it. So there. I'll make a video one of these days...

  • Sounds good I'm a big Larrivee fan have an L10 and a d60 remember a d60 is not just the rosewood version it has a 1/2 larger dia. sound hole a slightly different design mine is a cannon

  • Hey, I was curious how loud this guitar is? I am looking at getting one of these because my gurrent guitar gets drowned out in flatpicking sessions. What did you compare this guitar with?

    Great playing! --John

  • I compared this mainly to a Martin D-18V as the mohagany wood is used on both guitars and I played a Collings D-1 the day before! I can honestly say dollar for dollar Martin or Collings does not make a guitar that sounds/plays this good for the cost of this D-50 Larrivee! When you come to a case such as this you would have to have money to throw away to buy the higher end guitars over this one! When I have more time I will explain better as to not offend Martin owners on this touchy subject

  • Thanks for your quick reply. I am just getting around to this now because of the holidays. The deal that I was fell through. So, I guess, I will have to wait for another good one to come by on one of these. I have an LV-10e. I just love them Larrys.

  • @BluegrassRules1973 Try a Collings DA 1 Varnish..A BANJO KILLER..My friend is the 2010 Winfield National Champion Banjo player and we played a Collings D 1 A Varnish and we were amazed..It was a better guitar than the 10 Pre-War D-18's we played at IBMA... They are about 6,000 but they are banjo killers...They sound like a forty year old guitar right out of the box!

  • This guitar plays and projects louder than my hand made pre war design rosewood dreadnaught with adirondack top almost like a piano so easy to play!

  • Finally someone on You Tube that can play. great job! Buy the way great tone too.

  • Looks like this was posted back in 2007. Now that you've owned it for a couple of years, might be interesting to post a new video, to hear how it's opened up.

Great tone to start with.........which is amazing to me, since I hadn't really much of an opinion about this manufacturers product.

  • awesome sound and playing!

  • Id recommend paying hte little extra for the D50...i own four larrivee's myself...ranging from the low end L-03 up to the new RS4 electric...all Larrivees are incredible, but i will say theres nothing like my OM9...LOVE IT...

  • Great playing.

I'm considering purchasing the D-50 but also torn between that and the D-03, because of price. How much did you pay for your D-50? Also, how do you like the playability?

  • I paid a 1,000 for it on ebay! Set up was perfect when I got it this guitar was used to record an album in Pa but the guy could not release the artist's name of thinking I may try to use it to increase the value of the guitar if I were to sell it! Thanks for watching!

  • Sounds great! You are very talented.

  • That's some fine pickin'. Nice guitar. I've listened to this tune several times, and never thought to ask: What is the name of this tune? Seems like I've heard it before, but I can't place it. Take care--

  • Thanks for the kind words! This song is from a tune I heard called "The Drunkard" the actual song is done slower and a little more complex than my little version here! I have no clue as to who wrote or performed this song I just heard it one day and kind of picked it out using my mental tape recorder!lol

  • Great playing and picking.

Always preferred the Larrivee to the Taylor. I bought mine in 2003. Sounds great and I too love bluegrass.

  • it's a good sound but you'd probably sound good on any guitar. Good playing. It's a nice bright sound.

  • I am using Elixer Nanoweb strings medium gauge and a heavy flat pick only no fingers thanks everyone for the nice comments

  • what gauge and kind of strings are you using?

  • are you only using the pick? or also other fingers?

    nice clean sound btw

  • Lovely

  • Hammer down brotha. 5/5

  • That Larrivee sounds good. My son has an L-05 Larrivee that will flat smoke a Gibson J-200. Of course he wasn't the least bit afraid to break it in by playing hard and fast.

Sometimes when he really winds it up I can hear the truss rod "singing" in it. Larrivee is a good under rated guitar.

  • Really excellent playing. And of course the Larrivee sounds great.

  • Hell yea man!! Pick that somabitch!!

  • good picking man

  • awesome!

  • great sound.... keep picking that thing... love to hear a good flatpicker

  • I have the Larrivee D-50(rosewood)prototype limited edition made in 1993.Very different from the current model.

    Great guitar!

  • well, we all think it`s great, what do you think bluegrass- you parted with your hard earned for it!

  • nice playing man

  • what kind of strings are you using tks dave have you ever played a lsv11 any comment on them if you did tks again nice picking

  • Great sound.

  • Put that kick ass thing back up on ebay so i can make you an offer to buy it!!

  • Wow, listen to those harmonics on that last chord, they're ringing like crazy!

  • And it's a 9 that's outrageous too!

  • I incorporated this style into my own from a tune called "The Drunkard" Thanks everyone for the nice comments!!!

  • Sounds like it has alot of reuben in it too. But great pickin!

  • Awesome pickin' dude! Great guitar too!

  • nice! Good job.

  • fuckin sick, brother

  • Larrivee, man those guitars are right up there with the best available. Good picking, nice guitar.

  • Great picking I really enjoyed it!

Sounds a bit like a 'Man's Too Strong' by Dire Straits, but then again most picky dropped d tunes do..

  • im pretty sure thats an original

  • hey man, that's a very cool song. what is it called? or is it an original?

  • Nice pickin' man. I enjoyed that a lot. Now go put your kid to bed!!! :-)

  • do you know if Larrivee necks are the same as taylor necks?

awesome sound man I never tried a Larrivee before

  • I have a D60. They are beautiful guitars. Anyone know the tonal differences between Rosewood (Indian) and Mahogany?

  • In my opinion the Rosewood is darker and a more deeper tone verses the mahogany which is brighter and crisper! I have a rosewood dread that is very nice so i bought the 50 over the 60 so I could have one of each types of wood!

  • Sounds Wonderful Man!

  • I BUILD THOSE GUITARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work for Larrivee Guitars USA

  • I endorse those guitars. I have a video of me flatpicking my D50 onstage in a few shows. I have a new BZ rosewood they sent me 6 mos ago now. Best I've ever played.

  • Hey you have a GREAT job, I own one made in Vancouver, such a gret sound that my older brother, who isvery picky, no pun intended, went out a bought one a few months after playing mine, he had intended on buying a TAylor, as I did, but the Larrivee has beautiful tone, and the full pkg. V

  • Larrivee rullezzz !!!!!! it sure has ''the martin sound''

  • Ik vind ze vaak zelfs nog wel beter klinken... Is wel persoonlijk natuurlijk;)

  • wicked sound that some killer pickin, drop D i take it? your good, a little spooky, i like!

  • Thanks, Sure is drop d it was a little something I put together to see how it sounded in alternate tuning

  • Great sounding axe!

  • heh these larrivee instrument sound really crisp good choice nice playing

  • I believe you have seen the D-50 Koa deluxe...man, this one(yours)has the sound...the Koa Deluxe has both sound and beauty...Martin forever...keep that baby polished...see ya

  • Your "Vintage" Larrivee D-50 sounds great to me. Nice pickin' there also!

I love my D-03. Another good one.

  • Sounds great. Larrivee is best deal on high quality brands. Great deal men.

  • Larrivee guitars are amazing! I never heard of them until I saw them at the Amp and Guitar Wellness Center in Brooklyn and I was blown away by them! Best dollar value for a high end guitar.

Your D50 sounds great, even on youtube!

  • thanks! I bought this guitar sound unheard off ebay! And drove 300 miles to get it! It was a week old and the guy sold it to me for 1,100! It sells discounted at Sam Ash for 1,899 thats the best price I could find on the 50 model until I saw this one on ebay! Check out my other videos as well it sounds a little better on them I think

  • Sounds pretty darn good to me. Nice playing too.
