Harty was rubbish wasn't he? I saw him interviewing Jimmy Saville yesterday on a tribute to JS. He was really irritating JS to the point where JS was just talking over him and being sharp with him. Harty was clumsy, amateur, poorly prepared and self-important.
Maybe if he'd shut up and actually listen to the person he is SUPPOSED to be interviewing, the thing would have gone a bit better. Hard to believe he held a job as an interviewer. He's an ass. She is doing the best she can under the circumstances.
Gosh, what a jerk. He bearly lets Diana get a word in edge wise and she's being the one being interviewed not him. No wonder she doesn't look like she's having a good time during this interview like in others. In other interviews she's so happy and smiling and laughing. She has a good time telling things and stories, but in this one she's not. It's sad. It makes me kind of angry for her while watching this. But thanks for posting this though. I just love Diana Rigg. :D
I find interviewers back in those days so extremely arrogant and affected almost as if they felt they were a step above anyone they spoke to. This guy is a berk, but she handles him very well. I miss the Diana of those days so badly. Really cracked on that woman. Glad I was on this a planet when she was too.
No wonder Diana Rigg is getting a bit sharp with Russell Harty; he's hardly the best interviewer. It's almost as if he doesn't listen to her answers, reiterating what she just said almost as if he said it first. Is he dense? she must be thinking.
Right around this time, she did a short-lived American series, "Diana," for NBC. She even did a week on "The Hollywood Squares," to promote it. Thanks for the post!
Russell Hartys interview style seems deadly serious, and Diana usually responds as such. Her interviews with Michael Parkinson and Paul O'Grady was much more light hearted and humourous because the interviewers were more relaxed. Harty seemed a bit pushy, and I think Diana Rigg is just being direct in her answers. She doesn't seem troubled though.
Diana is beautiful in this interview but she seems upset by something or someone. She's no comfortable in this interview. I thik it depends on the interviewer or maybe she has other problems...

I'm not sure whether interviewers are born dumb or just act dumb to provoke reaction. Either way they piss me off.

She's should have done a Grace Jones on him! Ha ha ha, launched him across the studio.

I loved Emma Peel, but I still fantasize about being trapped in Tara King's Head Scissors.

I used to like Russell Harty. It was very sad when he died so young, just 54.

@sirtinycreep I haven't seen him much (while watching 60's and 70's interviews) but he seems like a better orientated interviewer.

Diana Rigg wasn't my favorite Bond girl but she impressed me with great acting, deep emotions and look. Great actress

I wonder if she stayed in fashion during the 80's?

Be nice if he'd shut the hell up and let her talk. She IS the one being interviewed and why people are watching the show to begin with.

The interviewer acts more like an interrogator, which makes his guest uncomfortable and viewers cringe.

Would love to have seen the rest of the interview. It was getting really interesting.
Nevertheless....this portion is still appreciated.

It's a shame that she wasn't given a better vehicle for a television series.

Really? I didn't know that. Anyway Diana's best interviewer on tv is Parkinson who's a true gentleman and make guest comfortable.
