I wonder why they say track warrant? Aircraft are clreared on course by an air traffic controller and there is nothing else to think about. Once you are cleared you are cleared period. Whats all this business about a track warrant? Same with the runway, once you are cleared to land you own the runway until you are clear of it. Do runway incursions happen? Yeah, sure. But anything can happen anywhere. A piece of paper ain't gonna clear the track either.
@JetMechMA Many places dont have centralized traffic control signals or CTC instead they have track warrant control (TWC) territories this is where the dispatcher gives you authority btwn two points either mile posts or stations and this is YOUR authority and you cannot over run it or you will be fired. This is how the dispather moves trains thru these territories, and you can have two types of TWC, nonsignal TWC and TWC-ABS
@JetMechMA The conductor as he copies the track warrant will make two and hand one to the engineer but the conductor is responsible for reminding the engineer that they are nearing the end of their limits. The conductor and engineer are dually responsible for the safe movement of the train the engineer operates and controls the train the conductor reminds tells the engineer when to slow down or stop
Those H2 BNSF 3 digit ex ATSF C44-9W`s with the lower ditch lights are getting harder to find, i havent seen one in a very long time. awesome chatter and catch!
Someone tell me if I'm wrong, this is my analysis of the video: the unit on the house track was probably dead and cut out of a freight, this light power was sent to pick it up. Since the unit was dead, they had to place an operating unit behind it, hence the power shuffle. Is that about right?
Nice Job! What kind of camera? Do most engines have video cameras? Will I show up on one when I met a train naked like this? youtube.com/watch?v=dFIkpP19gX8
When there is more than one engine, does the other engine just supply power, or does it also have driven wheels?
Means to place a check mark in the box number two on the track warrant, and the dispatcher will give track clearance from one point to another basically
I didn't know so much went into this. There have been locos set out at the Fullerton junction and they would stop a freight, line up a switch, and back the whole thing into the set-out engine and proceed West.
Interesting.Very steady camera work with effective editing. Thanks for not adding extraneous background music to this video like so many feel compelled to do. Having the radio chatter in there really adds too. Please post more!
@leafygreentree The class you take to be an engineer is paid for by the company you work for. If its some thing you wana do apply for a job as a conductor with a rail road once your hired on and passed your final test you can apply for there engineer classes when they open one up. I would sugest going with BNSF our power tends to be well maintained witch = clean cabs with ac and heat
@trainsruleandroll mHey thanks for a great video brother. this is exactly what I dig on. We live in toledo ohio so we get to see more trains than we can keep up with. Funny cause I live right next to the old B&O main out of perry. We can drive down the road to Fostoria and deshler. We have about four yards of course none are very rail fan freindly since 9-11 but my dad and two uncles worked for CSX and I am a handicapped vet son is Amry infantry so we do ok with that. We take respect.
@ussoldierrail Also GOD BLESS you for taking the time to stand outside and take this video caus eI have herd that BNSF is total jerks to rail fans. At least that has been said on you tube a thousand times. feel free to share our pics at toledoOHindependentrailfan @ photbucket. Wer dont ask for money or dumb ass copy rights only prayer and love. Too many northwest ohio foamers try to seel pics and want into the mags. they are weak ass fucks. X high school tatale tale nerds
There is always a single locomotive sitting on a siding near Palmer lake to be used as extra power in case a train stalls, or a locomotive breaks down. It is always running and after so many weeks it has to be taken back to Denver to be re-fueled. Sometimes it is put on a train but more often than not it is taken back as a single locomotive. There is another extra locomotive on stand by at Big lift.
they had to shuffle the units because 9412 was facing south and if the train departed it would be hooding (unit going backwards with longhood leading) to make sure the train has a head end unit they moved 672 to point and placed 4871 on the rear so they can take it over to the engine terminal to be fixed.
This was switched out not to get the old ex ATSF 672 on the point ... 4871 was dead due to starter circuit problems and was DIC as a lead and not enough hp to get the train over the grade. The MAC was picked up for HP the lead was switched out because of being DIC and working on battery only ( no HP...but trying to keep all circuits operational ..) The train southbound is tied down at Larkspur approx mp 43.3 about 10 miles north on Main 1...sometimes railroading doesn't go as planned
BNSF crews are a lot better at coupling than Union Pacific crews. I've seen UP crews couple so hard that the locomotive jumped an inch or so up from the force. Great video!

@TheUnionpacific4008 Thanks for the info. What if an engineer is new? How will he know exactly where to stop?....other than the red signals.
