Okay.... I'm a girl, whose knowledge of cars extends no further than being able to tell the difference between a van, a truck, and a 'normal car' (I can also identify stretch limos!) but I don't get why they're confused about the '0 to 60' measurement. If I were to take a guess, I'd assume that's useful to know because often in non-residential areas you have to merge onto busy 60 km roads from a complete standstill.

I see people have mentioned that they were talking about 60 miles per hour rather than kilometres (an easy mistake to make especially when they don't actually mention the units of measurement).

But I agree with your general point. The important thing is how fast you can get up to speed from a standing start. What they are trying to do is measure acceleration which is quite a hard thing to do. Acceleration is not like speed which can get measured at a specific point in time.

Top Gear is the only show that got better by dumbing down. All three - Clarkson, Little Clarkson and Captain Sensible Clarkson - are obviously academically intelligent, but somehow they're more entertaining when they pretend to be complete idiots. (Apart from the occasional circle jerk over Margaret Thatcher, but thankfully, they don't get in the way too much.)

They are never a fraction as intelligent as the filmed pieces and just seem thrown together as an afterthought. Even Stars in a Reasonably-Priced Car would work much better as a filmed section. And then they wouldn't have to fret so much over a celebrity's availability (especially the F1 drivers). Plus no pointless plugging!
